The world, level design, textures, models, characters, dialogue, storytelling, lighting, sound, animations, sky boxes, all master class. Absolute insanity art like that can even be conceived and run near flawlessly. The enemy attack patterns, animation locks, unfair one hits and complete bs hit boxes make this game infuriating to play. Comparison with the more modern titles, this game leans more to artificially hard and waiting for good rng, rather than mastering the enemies moves. I can see why boss run backs didn't stick around.

That was my first soulslike playtrough, and except first 20 hours of gameplay it was not that hard what i expecting before playing. Overall a good game, exploring locations and most of the fights are very satisfying. I'll be back soon to finish the game 100%, because the first playthrough doesn't allow me to do so, it will take some more time. ____ Well, I managed to finish the game 100% and I enjoy everything i did, statistics show that the time to complete everything is 105 hours, it took me 104, it could have been faster like 80/90 if I hadn't eaten the souls of the bosses during the first game, which were needed to craft unique weapons, so I had to play an additional new games. (I finished at ng++) but I dont regret it, because I had a great time with each one, and with each one I discovered something new, like hidden blacksmith in catacombs, when cutscene starts i though its a mini boss or something, it was cool. The biggest nightmare was passing blighttown from the depths side because at the beginning of the game I didn't take the master key as a starting item, only the hp bottle, which I later wasted on gargoyles and I died anyway haha. In any case, it was fun to play and I was satisfied with completing the game to 100%. 10/10

My favorite Dark Souls, i really like the difficulty and how you feel small in the world. Iconic music and the bosses are well made. Please give the dlc a chance, you can't miss Artorias. Whether you get it on sale or not this is a game you should at least try once.
Old – still gold?
A classic which still holds really well by 2025, even though it was released almost two decades ago. If you’ve never played it but played newer From Software games and now try to decide whether you should try this one or not – my answer would be ‘definitely’. It’s a great experience, the game has its own atmosphere different from other DS’s, and you will learn where FS took off from. I never stumbled upon any bugs, errors or running problems either on PS or PC, Remastered really made it a smooth game even though it’s old. However, if you’re a fan of newer FS games only, there are some things that have to be mentioned about DS1 in specifics that make playing it a MUCH different experience than let’s say DS3: 1) The gameplay feels much clunkier and less polished. When I replayed DS1 years later, I noticed the huge difference in how my character rolls for example. When I have a target on an enemy, sometimes my character freezes for a couple of seconds when I need to roll sideways, or they roll back/forth instead. In some bosses’ fights such inconvenience can literally cost you a life, like Artorias fight on NG+ (which I ended up winning not targeting A. at all). 2) Not only the gameplay is slower, but the pacing is slower in general. When I’m playing as a light-armored character in DS3 (or in Bloodborne as default), I’m a literal Flash. I’m quick, dexterous and can run miles within a minute. When I’m playing literally naked in DS1, I feel like I’m running underwater. And considering that sometimes I have to run incredibly long distances just to get to a certain bosses’ arena (Bed of Chaos, Gwyn), it feels like a chore just because how long it is. When I hit even light weapons, it feels much slower than anywhere before, while my enemies hit way faster almost in all cases. It’s not really an issue, but you’ll certainly have to get used to it and literally re-train yourself if you’ve never played DS1 before. 3) Speaking of running. You’ll have to go through roughly 40% of the game to get the ability to warp between the bonfires (only certain ones though, not all of them). And even though the game has a huge number of great shortcuts (and better level-design in general which makes all the areas connected), you’ll really feel playing it tiring after some period of time due to constant underwater running required. I can literally play any other FS games for hours and not get tired, but with DS1, I often finish my daily sessions within one or two hours just because how drowsy I get while being in the need of covering long distances at slow tempo. 4) Adding to the point above: while going for the platinum in my re-walkthrough on PC (which requires fully finishing the game 2.5 times), it really turned into a snoozefest for me lol. As I played in on PS years ago, going for the plat was really easy as I could remember. So if you play the game for the first time, you’ll be really interested to explore and engaged in it. But when you know the game too well already? Man, replaying it really puts me to sleep. And even though it’s an objectively great game, I like it the less from all the other FS projects. I know DS3 better than my parents too, I put around 400 hours into it and I still would play it again over DS1 which I gave about 100 hours only. To sum it all up: DS1 is an old game, and playing it won’t feel as free and smooth as the newer FS projects. It will require much more time and dedication from you, and certain aspects of it will have to click with you before you’ll start to enjoy it (or, well, at least tolerate it). In any case, it still is and will always be worth playing even after years later.

A glorified Re"Master" that's basically a 60FPS, 1080p texture pack mod of the original Still contains most of the bugs and problems, but at least it still has online mode

This game is the equivalent of a persistent teacher/professor in school, originally you hate them for being so challenging, you are annoyed that they seem unfair. But then, one day it clicks and you stop losing. Areas that used to take hours now take minutes, you learn from your mistakes and absolutely crush it. You look back on your teacher and appreciate their persistence and challenge because it made you a better player. Dark Souls doesn't hold your hand when you pick it up for the first time, you are faced trial by fire, but then you are offered aid by way of in game help from characters you meet along the way or knowledge imparted to you by friends such as "Did you know about this shortcut?" or "That boss can actually be cheesed in ____ way". It's a game about learning and it executes it flawlessly.

This is the game of my life, the best game ever made in my opinion. I first played it back when the game was released. I had no information at all, I didn't even know that it was considered a very hard game, I just liked the cover and downloaded it to play on my laptop at 15 fps (I was unemployed, forgive me). I was completely absorbed into this decaying world, I felt the adventure to my bones, I absolutely loved the slow paced combat, the story, the level design, everything. Now that I have a job and money, I made sure to buy it to compensate Fromsoftware for providing me with such a wonderful experience, and took the chance to make 100% of the achievements =)

The game that has started the trend... This is my second souls-like game after Elden Ring and I feel like this game made me a veteran in this genre. I understand all the hype. Jump into the game after accepting that it is a rather hard and unusual game that will take your time to learn about it. Well anyways,
your gods are dead and you are stuck with the curse of being unable to die due to your king going senile and keeping how the things work despite it is all rotting. Good luck trying to fix all of it.
First of all, I think this game is pretty artistic. Like I felt really excited to be around in this world, it was mostly pleasurable. It was fun to wander around and explore, or just to look at despite this game having older graphics. Plus I understand why people liked the Dark Souls map. It is brilliantly designed and everything is connected. Even if it has been a while since I played this game, when I remember playing it, I feel no gaps between anywhere I went. I guess I can describe it as "complete". Despite not being an open world game, this game gives you the opportunity to explore a lot. Okay I guess I can tell that some stuff is absurdly hidden I still loved it mostly. Let's talk about combat, the main part that probably most care about. When I was progressing through the game, I though "Hey, this feels just like Elden Ring :D!". Then game smacked me with more combat options that I needed to do. Game kinda forces you to use them all throughout the game. Sometimes you realize you need to parry, sometimes you just use bows, sometimes you have to backstab them. Learning these are hard, but after that you kinda enjoy it while looking for the enemies attack pattern. You can get creative whatever you use. I must say though, it feels so much slower comparing to Elden Ring. But I kinda find a beauty in that. I like breathing rooms to analyze what to do and change my plans. Since movements are slower too it is also more pleasurable to dodge an attack that you see. It just balances itself. The thing I probably loved about this game is items! Items actually have meanings in this game. You see, there are shit ton of different enviromental dangers you need to get through and it is way too hard without some items. You kinda realize that you are doing something wrong in these areas. Walking in the water is too slow? There is an item for that. Too much poison around? Get poison res equipment, they make a lot difference. Bro deals too much lightning damage? Just get light res. equipment and it will become a decent damage. You get your poise up and hey, now you are actually hard to stagger, unlike other games where no matter what your poise is %90 of the enemies just stagger the shit out of you. You can shape your game experience however you want with the items you make an effort for. This also boosts your desire to explore. If we get to the part where I need to write, there isn't much the write to be honest. They are using the same blueprint for all of their games and its okay. I liked Elden Ring lore, I liked this too. It was interesting. Though I can say I mostly played for exploring and combat. If there is a strong point about it's lore, maybe I could say there are really lovely NPC's. Everyone know Solaire but the others are not less amazing than him. I'll be fair now, there are really some places of the game where it is total bullshit and just unnecessarily troubling. But you can just get through them you know, and I was kinda okay with it since I was just excited and just trying to survive. Overall as a souls game, I loved it totally. It was more on the chill side but was still hard. I loved the whole world and exploring items, and use items lol. I also think that it would be a great game to be "first souls experience" with guides of course. Some people might not like it after games like DS3 or Elden Ring, since it paces a lot slower. But in my opinion game gives it's taste fully since you kinda digest it to get through it lol. O chosen undead, you are left with the burden of a collapsing world on your shoulders. Fret not, keep trying and do not go hollow!
