I'm just disappointed, it could have been such a great game.. but it's just not

Overall a good survival game. There's a few annoyances, like the 1HP enemies that spawn if you stay for too long and the abyss curse, but nothing game breaking. I don't think I would pay full price, but definitely worth it on sale. Solid 8/10 score.

I wont lie, the pricetag is high and the 'tutorial' campaign can absolutely be skipped However, if you get this at a good price and jump strait into the main campaign it is exceptional and very worth your time

So first things first, is this game worth it? Are you a Made in Abyss fan? Then maybe, if you're really itching for a MiA game this just might scratch that itch but I'll describe later. Otherwise if you're not a fan of MiA I can't recommend it since this game is heavily catered to those who watched the anime or read the manga which I'm a massive fan of both so I enjoyed my time with this game. Regardless if you're a fan or not, I wouldn't say its worth the full price, I managed to pick this up for about 8 USD and I got my moneys worth despite that I feel the game tripped before the finish line. If you're a fan of MiA and wish to play a game that allows you to be immersed in the Abyss and experience the everyday life of a Cave Raider you may be disappointed as the game is quite limited as the areas for each layer are hand-crafted which isn't bad persay but I think some random generation or procedural could have helped mix some things up and provided new challenges everytime you delve into the Abyss as you'll be walking back and forth in the same areas for awhile, enemy variety is quite lacking which is upsetting since the author for the manga (Tsukushi) has some amazing monster designs and you'd think he'd go wild in this game as there's a large contrast between the actual ingame creature designs and how they appear in your notebook cause you'll end up having three different flavors of the same monster instead of new ones for each layer and some of their ingame models (ie the Horncrier) can look a little odd. And the story is "okay" theres a retelling of the original story but can't say I cared for it because you're here for the real meat and bones of the game which is making your own Diver, which again is a little underwhelming and I feel like them trying to stick with the Belchero Orphanage hindered the ability to have more interesting interactions with Orth and the Abyss, that and I personally don't want to play as a child lmao and while getting to see more interactions with the surface characters like Hablog or Leader are cool they stop mattering once you're a Moon Whistle as they run out of dialogue. And I reckon what filters most players is the large difficulty spike once you hit the third layer, it's super easy to get lost or have to give up on a dive because you ran out of food or you keep getting one-shot by those enemies of Christ called Madokajacks and this is the point where you'll start rushing the main quest so you can unlock fast travel since you need to progress to the next level to fast travel which is a shame because the game really does give you alot of options to make the trek back slightly easier but it can be super punishing if you're not prepared. I could probably rant on forever about my personal changes and you can bug me about it, but I really personally enjoyed my time because the music is wonderful, alot of the environments can look really cool and this is the only piece of media we might ever get to officially explore these areas, and I do like the sense of awe and adventure you experience when you first go to a next layer. So if you're really starving for some MiA games I'd say get it on sale otherwise you might end up feeling how most of the other reviews feel about this game and be disappointed by the lack of depth the game has.

It may not be a polished game, but for what it is, I had much fun with it, seeing all the locations and characters of the anime and new characters of the game. There are many different defeat cutscenes when you get killed by the monsters inhabiting the Abyss; some of those defeat cutscenes are very brutal and gore and really catch the mood of the anime. The Abyss is no pick-nick place. So everytime I saw a new monster, this was always the first thing I wanted to try out on it haha. It was two times that I was stuck between some rocks because of glitching out, so I had to reload the last autosave. And the game only crashed once in my 62h playthrough and that even with some mods installed (Time and Weather, Longer Render Distance and UI Toggle, all three mods are on Nexus Mods), so maybe because of those, I don't know ^^ When you grab the game on a sale, last time was 85% off, then this is a no-brainer if you liked the anime and also survival & ARPG's. Advice from an experienced cave raider: ALWAYS stack up enough salt, ropes and pickaxes. And beware of the Third layer. I was stuck there three days, finding my way back from there because it is a dark maze. Pressing R3/Right stick on controller toggles your helmet flashlight.

I will start off this review by stating that I am a huge Made in Abyss fan This game is made for Made in Abyss fans. If you did not like the show, this game has little to offer. If you liked the show this game has a lot to offer. I have played very little of the story mode. If I want to experience the made in Abyss story I can just watch the show. What I have played is the other mode which is an alternative story where your character gets to go on its own adventure. I will say the bad first so I can get it over with. The game is clunky and unpolished. It’s a bit grindy and can get repetitive. Mechanically speaking it does not have the most depth and fan or not it is not worth the full price, if you can, get it on sale. Having said that the game is really pretty and it very accurately mimics the gorgeous scenery of Made in Abyss. It’s filled with details from the source material and you can tell that a lot of care was put into making a product fans will enjoy. It even expands on the world which I personally found really interesting. In the show you leave Orth behind in episode 3 and you rarely get to see more of the life and challenges of regular cave riders. Experiencing that other side of the world of Made in Abyss is very enjoyable. It’s one of those games you can chip at a little bit every day making it easier to handle its repetitiveness. Overall it has been a really fun experience. TLDR: If you are a fan this game has a lot to offer and you will enjoy it, however it’s clunky and not worth the price tag, get it on sale.

Got copyright struck for playing this game, appealed it but alas the people behind this game are a corporation that decided to keep the claim on. I mean why not at the end of the day, it's not like I can do much more then leave a negative review and scream about it into the void. They know I can't take them to court and force them to abide by fair use, It's scummy and no matter how much I like this game I am leaving a bad review on principal. I would love to refund the game but they took their time to claim my videos so Ill just have to settle on never buying their products again. Oh well If you're a streamer I would advise not to put the vod or any content you make via this game on youtube, it's not worth giving them free money

This is the most difficult game to write a review for. I really want to write my thought for this game but it would be quite long and spoil you from fun. Just so you know that if you are a fan of Made in Abyss. You will have a lot of fun with this game. Many elements are a bit basic from the first look but you will start to integrate yourself with the system and before long. You will spent 20+ hours away just for cave raiding (like me). The down side? Aside from many great aspects. This game feel a bit "low budget". But its fine, It will given you the experience of delving into the abyss all the same. (Although I wish they could go much deeper with additional camping system and all). Buy this game if you have enough time to spent on exploring, surviving so I will also recommended this game to be play on Steam deck. Run great at full setting.

This game is a hidden gem. 10/10 I was sceptical and waited until it went on 85% sale, because graphics don't look good on the first glance and it doesn't seem like a long game to complete. But... Turns out I was pretty damn wrong. Game turned out to be an amazing fresh experience with mechnics I couldn't even imagine could exist, it's simple yet very emergent. As an avid fan of the anime and manga I really enjoyed playing this and aside from some clunkiness it's a pretty good representation of this world. It's easier than the real experience would be, but somehow this makes gameplay extremely fun and non-repetetive, like I could go down the same path for 12th time and it's still fun and cool. So your goals range from going deeper to see some creatures, fighting them, retriving lost gear, helping people and there's a story that both uses part of the source material and then builds atop of it with your own character and dare I say it's really amazing somehow. While doing so you must upgrade your gear, collect food and avoid dangers of the abyss. You'd expect this to be an open world game, yet if we have to box it, it's actually a semi-linear rougelite, but more than that it's its own genre completely, it's this unique and everything here has a purpose. And just like in the source material, it all looks cute and all untill you die, plenty of gore, explicit content, hell there's Bondwerd here, you know what he does. Now I won't lie, the graphics may have grown on me and in spite of AI not being too good sometimes, other times it turned out to be pretty competetive. I have been surprised at each step of the game. After 9 hours I have only completed Riko's story which is a tutorial ending at end of layer 2. And in the main mode I only now reached 2nd layer. The game has 5 layers, so not all of them, but I've got to say I love what I am seeing right now and I can't wait to see what's deeper and how they represented it. I think it's a great, fresh purchase for both people who know and don't know the source material. All the negative reviews I read have a point about this not being a perfect game, it's a B class production, but don't be alarmed, it's a really solid game and the only downside is that we were robbed out of this being a higher budge production. Gameplay wise, outside of some clunky AI or some animations, it's really no worse than an AAA game from a respected studio. It's deffnitely worth a buy, but I completely respect anyone who would buy it only at a discount. Still don't be me, it's worth at least half a price.
