Extremely fun exploration game. It's definitely brutal in some areas (ahem... third layer) but never to the point where I felt like I was getting punished for things that weren't my fault, like not bringing enough materials with me or being careless around strong enemies.
I was expecting way more bugs with how harsh the reviews are, but none of them significantly hindered my experience. Honestly, the first layer seems the worst regarding bugs since an enemy spawns every time you turn around; this is much less prevalent in the deeper layers. But I definitely recommend this game if you're a fan of MIA. The music is amazing too and really adds to the atmosphere.

Sadness.
This takes a masterpiece of a manga/anime and reduces it down to a janky, frustrating, and sometimes nearly unplayable cornucopia of meh. It also doesn't help that I'm playing with a controller and all the prompts on the screen are just for keyboard and mouse. I hate that this was a disappointment. I'm literally depressed. My soul has now become the darkest depths of the Abyss.

On sale and for PC with mods this game is pretty fun. Only thing that really bothers me is how the curse is done mechanically. It's not something that wears off if you stop ascending. Its accumulative. In the game you need to wait while ascending for the curse meter to reset. A better way to do this would be to capture the lowest point on the vertical axis and if you ascend that value +10m you get hit with the curse. And add items to deal with the different curses because you're supposed to suffer. It's not supposed to be easy. Otherwise, pretty fun.

dont buy this game just because ur a fan of the series, wait for a sale. that is the best advise i can give you. this game in no universe (except the universe where this is a good, finished game) should be worth 60 doubloons.

This death hole game is my janky little meow meow, and I can only recommend it to people who 1. Already have a fascination with the MIA universe and 2. Is somewhat of a masochist for punishing JRPG/survival mechanics (aka dying over and over again losing hours of progress at a time from one careless misstep). I happen to fit into both categories so I enjoyed this game a lot, and I’m very happy having gotten it on sale as I believe it was the perfect price range back then. Every single time I made just a little bit of progress while I was exploring the pit, I felt a rush with The Call of the Abyss inside of my soul and it was awesome. Worth 100+ hours of falling down cliffs breaking all of my bones just to get a few more voiced lines from Bondrewd’s VA fr.

The first 5 hours is a tutorial level of sorts, narratively kinda cheesy and awkward, but functional in terms of teaching game mechanics.
The "real" game starts in a second campaign called "Deep in Abyss", which is suprisingly fun. It focuses on exploration and crafting, and forces the player to be careful and strategic as they move through the abyss. The art style is cutsey and relaxing, making for this really interesting mix of wonder, comfort, and tension.

Really hard to recommend because the game is rather mid.
It isn't worth full price I will tell you that now. It has a few things that really needed changing.
Let us start with the bad. The key-mapping is a mess. I'm sure this was meant for a controller, but whoever was in charge of key binding really needed to fix things. You can rebind, but that doesn't fix the issue. Having to use space bar to close menus, double hit shift to dodge, or ctrl to talk is just a poor choice. I also like to add the early parts of the game are painfully slow. It isn't until you have some upgrades that the game moves at a decent pace. Also the weapon durability system is pathetic.
Now the good. It is an interesting world to discover complete with wonders to find. The game is harsh and cruel sometimes, but that just makes it a wonderful feeling when you overcome the challenge. It is still fun trying to find your way of climbing around the layers. There is fast travel, but you will have to earn it. If you don't prepare yourself for the abyss then it will eat you alive... literally. This isn't just a place to go into blind as even the first layer can kill the careless.
Some of the issues can be modded out thankfully. So I will recommend the game at a discount.

Good for People with patience and strong will. As well as being a fan of the series.
Lackluster Fighting system, bugs, unpolished things, heavily cut content.
Staying true to the source material, enjoyable loop, laughable glitches.
If not, then you should skip or get it for under 5-8€

When you are a made in abyss fan, it's an OK game, but when you aren't it's just pain in the ass.
Clunky, grindy and you will get bored.

There is a lot to like about this game, but the negatives outweighed all that by hour 25. It is a challenging survival/exploration/resource management game, but the fun of all of that is spoiled by a few things.
First, ambient spawns. When they trigger, you'll find yourself fighting an endless series of trivial foes, often literally spawning 1 every 2 seconds, wearing down weapons and keeping you from actually doing what you entered an area for.
Second, bugs. Managing stamina while climbing is a big part of the game, but you'll often find yourself stuck on a stray bit of terrain, ruining your path and setting your progress back till last time you used a consumable item to save.
Third, backtracking. It takes longer and longer as the game goes on. It was just too exhausting to put up with, and is what finally drove me to uninstall the game.
