A awesome gallery shooter. A true upgrade over its outstanding SNES counterpart. Reloaded, is just more of what made the original great in all the best ways possible! Lovely fun on the Steam Deck!

Wild Guns is an old fashioned arcade-like gallery shooter. They were never my thing back then, and I'm even worse as a gamer these days. However, if a player sticks with it and gets used to the controls with practice, I imagine it is a lot of fun.
The game is relatively simple. You move a cross-hair around to aim where you want to shoot holding down the shoot button. Tapping the shoot button allows the character to lasso enemies to stun them temporarily. And, as far as I can tell, not shooting allows the character to melee attack the melee enemies that can't be shot.
Additionally, the character dodges bullets by moving right or left. As well as jumping or rolling out of the way. Which is where the challenge comes in. The player has the prioritize all these action to both eliminate the enemies and stay alive themselves. To give the player some breathing room they have a limited number of bombs to clear a section of the screen of bullets and enemies.
During the gunfights, the player can also upgrade their weapon by shooting pick-ups to things like machine guns, shotguns and even a laser. However, they all have limited ammo. And the case of the laser, gun even slow the movement of the cross-hair some.
I like the game well enough. Though, I must admit, I would like either a virtual quarter pumping way to stay in the game to see more of it. Or even just a stage select or something. Because even on easy, I can't get very far yet. And I honestly don't like the genre enough nor have the time to practice to get my skill to squeeze by much on the easiest setting.
I can't say the game is super difficult. Just that I'm no good at it. And it doesn't hold my interest enough to play the first stage a bunch of times to to improve that. So, it seems every few months I play a few games, have a bit of fun, not get very far and stop again.
If it was actually in an arcade I'd likely not put in more than a single quarter. And as a SNES rental, it would have been selected only due to slim pickings and only rented the one time. It just doesn't have much of a draw for me. But maybe I'm not the target audience. I enjoy the retro look, and I can't say it is a bad game. Just not for me.
