Pretty good Metroidvania, nice techniques, awesome art style and animations. It was just a little too easy, each boss did not take more than 2 tries to learn their patterns. It is an 8 out 10 game.

This is the game that made me fall in love with the Metroidvania genre when I thought I hadn't liked it. It is well paced, not going to be as long as other Metroidvania's however well worth replaying multiple times, I promise. If you like longer Metroidvanias with more back tracking and everything; then this game isn't for you, not much in terms of back tracking.

I honestly think this game is a really good send-off to the entire series. It still has that cute, fun, relaxing vibe that all the previous Momodora games had, and a simple but sweet story. I'm not really sure why people find it disappointing, I think it is a perfectly fine and solid game. It is definitely the second best game in the series imo. I do agree that it doesn't quite live up to RUTM, both in exploration and challenge, but it is still really fun nonetheless. Bosses, while way easier, are probably the most spectacular out of the whole series. Fights are really grand, and there's a lot going on. Perhaps some epilepsy warning at the start of the game could be useful tbf. I don't have this issue, but I'm certain some fights could easily trigger it. I do wish challenge was slightly better tho. Even the nightmare versions of bosses are well... quite easy. Most are hardly changed honestly, those insta-killing squares (that don't insta-kill you, which is another issue) are not really placed well, and in most cases they are just a slight nuisance. I'm still going to try the arranged mode, and probably hardcore later on, so maybe that will add some challenge. As for the rest of the game, I really think it's good. Art, animations, and designs are probably the best part, it is by far the prettiest of the Momo games. Music is once again very chill and relaxing, and combat is pretty fun. I like the sigil system a lot, tho some combinations can literally make you unstoppable, so that makes the game even easier than it already is. Map is quite nice, and I do like the level design, but I do agree that it could have been a little more open. Instead it feels more linear, which for all I know could be a nod to Momo I and III, both of which were also linear. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was movement. I think it is very very slow, especially at the beginning. And you only unlock fast travel very late on in the game. I guess that was also true for RUTM, but there movement was a bit less sloggish. I do like the stamina bar in the fights, but it really is a nuisance when exploring. Still, as I said, I think it is a very good game, one that perfectly imo ends the series. I definitely can recommend.

Very nice game, took me a while to get used to the pixelart, since I played both of the last Momodoras back to back, but it is so stunning to look at, I was in awe most of the time because of the assets and designs.
Game wise is also very fun, a lot to explore and the fact that some things need habilities to be able to get them motivates you to explore a second or third time the map.
I'd love to play it and experience it a first time again.

Good game. Simple, short and with a pretty design. I also liked the music and the hidden gems from the devs.
Nice work!

Aesthetically strong bite sized metroidvania. Combat feels a bit awkward at times, with certain bosses being very boring and certain enemy types feeling overtuned. Definitely struggles with screen crowding and difficult to discern attacks in its more hectic situations. Exploration is altogether strong, but there aren't a ton of memorable landmarks or screens. The pixel art is great and the animations are superb. Worth your time if you are a fan of metroidvania games as a whole.

It just hasn't kept my attention. I played previous titles from this series and although they were simpler, the two previous games, for whatever reason, seemed to be more interesting. Personally, I think Both the 3rd game and RUTM relied heavily on the pseudo retro game nostalgia that was big in the 2010's, and the lack of content, and simplicity in those previous games helped keep the attention of people who were feeling nostalgic at the time or their release.
Fast forward to today, and we find less people dwelling in the past, thus less nostalgia to cloud one's judgement. In any case, Moonlit Farewell doesn't try to play the nostalgia card, it stands on its own as your typical modern Metroidvania, with its own identity. Rather than being compared to old Nes Zelda games, Cave Story, or Dark Souls, people now compare it to past entries in this series that were produce prior.
So, why aren't I recommending this game? Well, anytime it goes on sale, I say it's worth giving it a try, some people will really like it, others... not so much. It's not a bad game by any measure; it's just an "okay" game in a now over saturated sea of Metroidvania's. In other words, the market of indie games are flooded with these Unity made side scrollers, and Moonlit Farewell struggles to stand out among them.
I did find the Sigil system to be something that does help it appear a bit different from games similar, and how you go about obtaining some of them, via using button combos you find inscribed on walls, pretty cool. The art style is good, the music is good, but I feel like some of the songs don't fit with the athestics as well as in the previous game. So, if it goes on sale, buy it, try it, and form your own opinion on it.

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is a simple and enjoyable Metroidvania. It doesn't do anything radical, it isn't particularly difficult and the story is fairly generic.
That being said the games doesn't overstay its welcome, has tight controls, enjoyable progression and while it doesn't hold your hand, you never really get lost either.
If you like the pixel based Metroidvania genre, you'll find a lot to like here.
