TL;DR Great original gameplay, and generally a great story, just don't set expectations too high if you played the first game. The first TWEWY, besides (subjectively) fun touch screen controls and two characters, had an underappreciated focus on mixing attacks, and NEO absolutely nailed it. In fact, it's even better, since while it was fun, the stylus control and multitasking didn't encourage me to try any combos, while in NEO, making your own combos is THE game. It's great. There's plenty of small problems with camera or some bosses though, that might drag it down if the combo system isn't doing it for you. It also generally had a great story, but, there were a few many annoyances, like pacing, or not doing enough with villains, and such that bothered me. It might be since I played the first TWEWY a few months earlier and it was a top tier, as well as being pretty original, even if on paper it's the usual anime JRPG. Also, you kind of need to play the original first. While the main story didn't really need most of them, the whole cast comes back anyway, which might be alienating by the endgame, and also spoils the big twists. If you're confident you won't play that one though, then go ahead, the plot should still be good.
