Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition Reviews

The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly - killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider.

Finally got to play this game for the first time and my god, such a good game. I love the immersive sim genre and always felt bad I had never played this before when I was exploring this genre. I did have to get the Kentie launcher and Dx10 fix to get it running smoothly and in full screen but that was super simple. If the age of the game is holding you back from playing this. Trust! If you enjoy this genre, you will probably end up liking this game. I went through all 3 of the endings and think my playthrough was around 18 hours so not a super long game at all and I did explore the maps somewhat. I do wish you could level up your skills higher but just like Vampire Bloodlies, you have to pick what you really want to specialize in or me somewhat okay in most things. Can't wait to dive into the rest of this franchise! 100 Backlog Games of 2025 Challenge: 13/100

I'll be honest, it took me four tries to actually get far enough to enjoy this game. Lots of great reviews means nothing next to actually playing it. It's an older game that doesn't hold your hand, and I loved it! It took a while to get used to the controls, the inventory system, and the character progression, but once you get that down, it's a fun ride to go on.
88/100

An all-time classic that lives up to the hype
Positives:

An engaging narrative with very good pacing
Great voice-acting
A stealth focused shooting mechanic that will force you to take the tactical approach more often than not
Negatives:

It is easy to avoid detection by enemy AI and the difficulty settings only determine how much damage you will take. I recommend playing on Realistic difficulty
Some tinkering will be required for this game to work properly on modern hardware I recommend the Kentie launcher https://kentie.net/article/dxguide/
I spill my drink

Masterpiece of a first person RPG, one of the best games ever made. Lots of freedom in how you can approach pretty much any situation. You can go through missions however you want with all the different tools, skills, augmentations, and environmental setpieces available, and it just works. Absolutely incredible visuals and music that create an unforgettable atmosphere. Story is fantastic too with how detailed it is and how it explores various things like freedom, the consolidation and corruption of power, and trust. It's a one-of-a-kind experience.

Un juego excelente tanto en jugabilidad como en narrativa, todo está perfectamente logrado. Lo único negativo es su sistema de apuntado arcaico, pero se le perdona por ser un título del año 2000.

One of the greatest games of all time and my personal favorite. It's clunky and dated but you absolutely should play it. Just don't start with Revision for a first playthrough, it's well made but swathes of the game are virtually unrecognizable.

Should've called it Deus Ex: Game of the Millennium Edition I really liked the shooting mechanic in this game. You have to stand still for the crosshair to shrink, and it's very satisfying to pop some headshots like that. it also becomes impossible to run and gun, because enemies can shoot much more accurately. I find it strange that no other (stealth) game seems to have copied this mechanic. As many have said, there's lots of freedom in how you approach each situation. hack camera's and turn turrets against your enemies, turn off alarms and sneak past, use mines, snipe from a distance, crouch from behind and knife them, or just shoot a rocket to their face if you see no other way, or simply to blow up enemies for fun. There's also loot everywhere, ammo, health, hacking tools, etc. that rewards exploration. The only negative is that the environment feels kinda empty. In that first mission with the statue of liberty, it's just a dark, flat green patch with some boxes and enemies here and there. I was super excited that there was a mission in Hong Kong. But then a little disappointed, because nobody speaks Cantonese, except for those couple of guys in the hideout saying um goi jie guo, which is both misspelled and mispronounced. Some of the Chinese text on signboards is mirrored. What can you expect though, it was 2000 when this game came out. Every time I start the game I always stick around to listen to the main theme. It really is that good. Fundamentally it's an epic futuristic song, but there's also some musical comedy in it. I mean, I only noticed after I listened to some covers, but the main melody seems to have a hole in it after the 5th note due to how soft it plays the next one, and a lot of phrases end in a very loud and high note like it's making fun of itself. It suits the character of the game very well. While the game deals with controversial real world issues, it also has some funny, maybe satirical moments in it. This game really deserves a remake. Its scathing social critique is just as relevant today as it was back then.

Finally played this classic and man oh man It does live up to it's reputation. I just loved the grim and dark, but also immersive atmosphere, from the first mission onward it's like you are really living in this world. The storyline itself is great and captivating but Deus Ex also does a perfect job at telling it's story through the levels you traverse, the graphics also play a great role at doing just that, they may be simple but they make the most of them, creating stunning and instantly believeable locations. The levels are so varied and have so many ways you can approach a goal, it's crazy. The OST is also one of the best I've heard in a videogame period. Only negative thing I could say is that, obviously, the game's old as hell. So, it does need some help to run on modern systems. Also,
the ending to the game feels somewhat abrupt, the game has immense buildup and it all concludes in a logical way, it's just that the endings are like 20 seconds.
But overall, fantastic game. 9,5/10

I played the entire game (took about 27 hours with all endings) using the Revision Mod as a launcher. (I turned off all the extra stuff) Absolutely amazing game. Soundtrack is legendary, skill system makes sense and is balanced, guns are cool, explosives and stealth are fun, and story line is engaging. Would recommend to anyone. Just remember to always choose the GEP Gun

Deus Ex (2000) Review (8.5/10) ------------------------- Arguably being one of the most influential games of all time, Deus Ex manages to blend multiple genres seamlessly into one amazing package that's a must-play for fans of the immersive-sim genre.
