This is very competent little route and for the most part works and plays as described. however, it is not without a few quirks, which I detail below.
The line is called Tomakomai - Hidaka-Mombetsu Route, yet when in Mombetsu station the big sign on the building has it being called MoNdetsu withj the "N" replacing the "M".
A few of the bridges crossing water have columns missing their textures, these are not seen from an in-cab view but any external view reveals them. Verifying files has not fixed it, so then obviously an oversight in the build, but not a deal breaker.
Three sets of bird sounds are heard whilst playing, crows, a cuckoo and a song bird of some sort. These would be fine if you just heard them in passing, but not here as you can be doing 80kmh and they'll follow you cawing, cuckooing and twittering for a couple of miles, it's weird at first then it becomes irksome and then just irritating and after an hour or so it's like water torture. 😂
The line itself is put together very precisely, lush grass, flowers and trees in blossom and all used to produce a very lush looking landscape, typical Japanese houses and hamlets complete the look to good effect.
The scenarios provided are a bit limited by the use of a single line type operation with AI operation only seen at the lines terminii. However, they are set to typically tight Japanese running schedules which is a bit at odds when compared to the bucolic nature of the line, so you have to be on your toes timing wise, but given that not much happens in the scenarios a quick drive at slower pace is very nice.
It's a pretty line, the train provided is charming and has neat features, one of which being operating and oscillating ceiling fans for spring and summer running. For autumn and winter running you must press "M" to turn the heating on or risk a failed scenario, a nice twist.
It's not the longest route in the game and if you get it in a sale, it is a very enjoyable addition to your library of routes.
I give it 5/5 👍👍👍👍👍

I really enjoyed my time on the Hidaka Main Line ^^
It's a very chill rural route that doesn't require a lot of demanding challenges
Pros -
Decent looking route with good performance
Great exterior sound design
Chill to drive
Interesting setting and loco
super cheap (on sale)
Cons -
Lack of signals and speed boards may be a little too boring if you're not into rural passenger routes
I don't understand the trains alarm system and I can't disable it or 'react' in time for it to not go bananas and shut off the train
There's a very pixely 'dirt' layer over the cabcars windows that detracts from the quality of the overall experience and isn't present in the promotional material
Has career scenarios - but no achieves

Not as quality as the Wakayama Line DLC, a bit lacking scenery if you look away from the tracks and old Kuju assets in quite a few places, only comes with the KiHa 130 as the only train on the route and there are no lovely voice announcements like on the Wakayama route.
But overall it's still lovely, with barely any changes in elevation is easy to drive on and is an excellent route to get that japanese rural diesel railcar feel.

Bought on a whim in a sale and something I do not regret doing. In short, the route is a delight. No, the scenery is not spectacular. Yes, there is only one train. But it just exudes atmosphere.
The scenery is very much Union Workshop style - think Forest Rail but flatter - that is to say, rich and a lot of it. The architecture is, as might be expected, more modern but totally in keeping with the era, I suspect. The train, once you master it (note to self: next time, read the damn manual first), has a certain charm. Just out of interest, I coupled four cars together: corridor connections appeared between every car. Nice touch.
If, like me, you like all things Japan and in particular Japanese railways, I wholeheartedly recommend it. More in the same vein, please, and if possible, some Japanese 3'6" gauge steam.

I love this route and train my pc is a low end so all I do is lower the settings and it runs pretty good a little bit of slow down here and there but about 85% of it runs very good,And that;s good enough for me..

This is an amazing route. The scenarios are very well made and the scenery is beautiful. I'd recommend this to those who enjoy slow and short routes and to those who want to have a break from high-speed routes.
P.S. It's a pity it only includes a part of the route.

Well, I liked this one, once you learn the train it's pritty easy, the line is very simple and runs along the shoreline, you can even hear the waves crashing, birds singing and see ships in the sea! But, there issent much to do, other than look at the senery, this might get boring really fast, even with the beautiful souroundings.
I dident really hit any trouble or bugs on this one, so if you just like short quiet train rides, then I would go for this one.

Better than Story of Forest Rail, but not as good as Wakayama & Sakurai Lines.
The KiHa 130 railbus is pretty well made. The route is well made too, but it can be a tad boring. The single-track route features a length of little over 40km with 80km/h top speed and 8 stations. The landscape is flat, the tracks are straight and the villages are pretty small. The open landscape is still pretty though, and the KiHa 130 is fun to drive as well with it's 2-geared gearbox.

Made by Union Workshop who did the previous two Japanese routes both of which are very good.
It's only about 50km long and only comes with one (DMU) train but the price seems fair at £14.99.
Update: Well I took the plunge and purchased - 6/10.
The route bears all the trademarks of a Union Workshop project, thick grass either side of the line, custom buildings and everything placed to precision. But I have to say not only is the route quite short it is not very exciting either in terms of the scenery or the railway infrastructure. It's essentially a basic single track branch railway that runs through flat land, sometimes near the sea. I have to say the description supplied by DTG to Steam had me expecting to be running under sheer cliffs on a sea wall and popping in and out of tunnels with views to take your breath away. It's pleasant enough if you like a run through flat country but if UW wanted to showcase something on Hokkaido there are far more interesting railways to choose from - the Seikan Tunnel with its approaches either side or the Otaru to Niseko route which was the route in Tomy's SL de Ikou for the PS1, all those years ago.
The first tutorial scenario would not complete as it kept telling me I hadn't switched on the cab heater (when I had) and having departed late on the second scenario after figuring out how to start the train (in addition to the usual procedures you need to hit "x" to activate the control desk) was impossible to make up time. The Kiha 130 DMU needs better sounds and suffers from the usual DTG DMU cruise lock syndrome. The scenario just ended at a station in the middle of nowhere with track visible in the distance, but apparently is the end of the line.
I may keep it as an asset collection but not up to the level of UW's previous offerings in particular Forest Rail and barely worth even the lower asking price.
