First of all, smashing soundtrack and a combat system that's honestly solid, if a bit sloppy at times (got stuck in a wall trying to attack a enemy in the water and had to replay about 40-50 minutes) but that's an aside and hardly diminishes the game, I haven't fully completed it but I've already made up my mind about what I think of this game.
Again, combat is solid but at times very easy, if you just stack slow, freeze and paralyze on your weapons (and naturally, resistance to such on your armors) and you can just cheese the game even on harder difficulties.
Some bosses are should have stayed as concepts tho haha, the boss monster of the sacred beasts lair was not clever monster design, it was more like punching your wall continously for a good 5-10 minutes and see who wins.
Characters are solid as well, I haven't unlocked the full roster, but Galilica is such a brat and her dynamic with Duren reminds a bit of Alven and Elize from Tales of Xillia, just a great thing really.
But nitpicks aside, genuinely a great game, the exploration aspect takes me back to my first Ys game, Lacrimosa of Dana, and nothing fills me with more joy
Final nitpick tho, with a forest that large, i feel like you should have been able to fast travel between every stone monument in the overworld and then limited dungeon-only monuments to that restriction itself, it naturally dosnt take long to get to some areas even when not fast traveling but stills feels like a slog.
Update, at final dungeon, what a god awful design, it literally just feels like the final lacrimosa dungeon but infinitely worse, I absolutely DESPISE when devs try to add in puzzles in the final dungeon, and not only this shitshow of a dungeon overly puzzly but there's THREE PUZZLE AREAS, yeah, no, just a big fat nope, this will reflect on my new score also you can LITERALLY softlock yourself, my friend used the gale boots to traverse, the game didn't register him touching the teleport stone at start of the dungeon, he thought it didn't but didn't and it's possible to softlock yourself on the moving platforms.
Final score (halfway through game), 8/10
At final dungeon 6.5/10
I have replayed 8 twice and 9 once, I feel no calling to ever replay this game again

Combat has evolved in a nice way from seven. Otherwise its an ys game that hits all the checkboxes for a good ys game, but also manages to leave something to desire. What it is i cant pinpoint.

My first game I have played in the series. I tried this one first all the way back on the PS Vita but never ended up playing past the first few hours. I'm glad I finally had a chance to finish it!
Y's has inspired numerous games, but it's good to see why the original is best. The combat is extremely fluid and fast, which held my attention throughout the entirety of the game. It's also a great game to just zone out and explore, find chests, complete the maps, compendiums, etc.
Negatives would be the story which is very simplistic. It is still good enough though and I'd say above average for the genre. Overall, an enjoyable, inexpensive, lightweight game that you can sink a lot of time into if you are a completionist.

Ys: Memories of Celceta is a decent game, but it pales in comparison to other entries I’ve played, namely Ys VIII through Ys X and The Oath in Felghana, at least in terms of overall feel. While the exploration is solid, and the storytelling and soundtrack deliver as expected from Nihon Falcom, the finale felt weak and the ending came off a bit abrupt. That said, it’s still a valid way to conclude the game.
Overall, still a great experience. Recommended!
