The GP40-2 is overall a good DLC and I would recommend it to someone who is thinking about getting it. PROS: Well modeled cab and exterior. Looks amazing. Comes with 3 more scenarios Steel coil car and centerbeam flat car are a great added bonus CONS: Scenarios could have been better No new services included, just replaces some other services Turtorial uses instruction and narration from GP38 tutorial No dedicated manual Overall this is a well worth DLC if you are into the Sand Patch route and American trains. However, if you never liked the CSX route and trains then this DLC is not for you.

Not recommended It is a good model but it appears to be just a rehash of the GP38 The sounds are the weakness. Everything else is alright. DTG have obviously never heard the locos that appear on the Sand Patch grade route in real life. A 645E3 engine does NOT sound like a vaccum cleaner. LOL The bell is really bad and the frequency between "dings" is too long. Also it takes at least 30 seconds or more for the bell to shut off after a horn blast and you cannot turn it off manually. You have to wait. The horn is terrible as well. DTG needs to get Searchlight Simulations to do the US sounds or create the ability to mod this game. The UK locos have better sounds by far.

This DLC is an anomaly of sorts; is isn't part of the 'Preserved Content' collection making it a TSW 2020 only DLC along with the SW1000R and the original Northeast Corridor(NEC). With that said, I can recommend this content for those running TSW 2020. GP40-2 does look similar to the GP38-2 from SPG because most EMD GP units look similar after the GP30. The GP40-2 and the SD40-2 sound similar since the GP40-2 is literally the same mechanical unit as the SD40-2 just on B trucks rather than C trucks. So yes, there is a form of copy and paste going on here, but it is understandable. This DLC comes with the GP40-2 with two CSX liveries, a coil car, and a center beam flat car. Being created with SPG in mind; most of the services and scenarios are geared toward that route, but it is also playable in the NEC DLC; which I personally enjoyed greatly after living a number of years in NYC. This DlC, like most Dovetail content, does have its draw backs. The poor horn and bell sounds that were recycled was a great let down since most of use hoped this would have been fixed with or just prior to this DLC. I also heard that the tutorial is done with he same narration as the GP38-2 on SPG; I didn't catch this my self. In conclusion; I have enjoyed this DLC. The biggest let down from Dovetail on this DLC, and the NEC DLC, I feel is that it didn't make it into the 'Preserved Content' collection. The TSW2's counterpart to this DLC is the GE 8-40CW. Both of these DLCs were quick attempts to add to the roster of SPG in their respective programs while Dovetail worked on European DLCs. Both have been viewed by the TSW community as cash grabs on Dovetail's part. I imagine this DLC was an attempt at letting the US base know they weren't forgotten, but it felt that way for most when it was released. Price: I will admit that $20 is a bit steep and I would recommend waiting until it's on sale if for no other reason than it's not in the 'Preserved Content' collection.

NOTE: I've not explored the entirety of the content offered by this DLC, this is more of a first impressions review... The loco is quite detailed, and once you get to know it; it becomes quite distinct from the others in the game. This DLC also has a shunting scenario included, which I loved and felt was missing whilst playing the base game. Worth $20? That's up to you, but you get several new freight cars as well as a detailed loco for the price of just one loco. I personally feel it was worth the price. I would recommend this DLC. (That 3,000 hp though)

The high cost as well as the bug in the last scenario making it impossible to complete, are the cons. With that out of the way I really enjoyed the new loco. It has a lot more power and a few peculiars as well. Plenty of yard switching and a cold start are included in the new scenerios.

The GP-40 is by far the worst release of DLC for TSW to date. Even if you see this DLC for half price in sales, I would give very careful consideration and read the other reviews on here before purchasing. Essentially all you will get is one loco which is basically a slightly modified loco already found in the base game. One extremely short tutorial and 3 scenarios. There's is nothing else! If you just happen to have completed all the services in CSX heavy haul for the SD40-2, then be aware that the services for this DLC use exactly the same services as found for that loco. When I discovered that, I could not help but feel somewhat deceived by rather dubious marketing. For added icing on the cake the DLC has numerous bugs that further reduce its enjoyment and have not been fixed. If this is the sort of DLC we can expect from Dovetail games in the future, then the future is not looking bright for TSW. BUYER BEWARE!

I like it , i enjoy CSX Heavy Haul , i purchased this Loco Add-On back when it was released in Nov, 2017 its well modeled and looks amazing. You also get 42-foot Steel Coil Car in CSX branded livery 73-foot Centerbeam Flatcar If the price is putting you off add it to your wish list and pick it up in a sale :-) I wish they would do more content for csx
The "Least effort as possible" DLC
Please note, this is a review of the DLC, not the game as a whole, many of which seem to forget in these Steam reviews. Yes, the train is of good quality, and at 50% off the 3 scenarios offer an "okay" amount of content. But, this GP40-2 is essentially a reworked SD40-2, very little effort has gone into actually changing the train, at all. The tutorial says it all; DTG didn't even bother recording a few extra voice lines, and instead the tutor refers to the engine as a GP38-2 on completion. Just lazy. Like the Rapid Tranist DLC, there is no voice lines in any of the new scenarios. This is either a bug, or they simply didn't bother to record any. The GP40-2, while well rendered, is basically the same engine as the other -2 varieties. While adding three scenarios and one bodged tutorial, the services "added" for this DLC are actually shared with the other locos. I had a dozen or so completed for the GP40-2 before I even did my first with the loco. Yup, that's right, DTG did not even create original services for it, even if they were carbon copies of the ones already in the game. Oh yeah, this loco only has one livery. One. This DLC has a cut and paste feel all over it. At 50% off it is still a little pricey, in my mind, but it is unlikely to drop under that for any period of time. At 60% off, it is a reasonable price, any higher than 50%, not worth it in the least.

Ok first off i will say its a pretty locomotive however in a game where literally all four locomotives have the same horn sounds and three of them have the same bell sounds and two share the same engine sound I am highly disappointed. Not worth $20.00 in my opinion at least with train simulator 2018 you where able to change the sounds accordingly.

SERVICES STILL UNPLAYABLE, EVEN AFTER 18/01/2018 UPDATE. DON'T BUY, IT'S A SCAM! In reality, this DLC gives you: -a loco that is just modified from one of the base game -1 tutorial -3 scenarios that's all. Sure, "20 services". Turns out it's just replacing this loco on 20 services from the 36 available in CSX and that's all. So, if like me, you've already played all those 36 services, you literally spent 13.99 for 3 scenarios and one tutorial. edit 1: so far, 1 of the new achievements are broken. edit 2: well 3 achievements broken edit 3: playing the services, this engine has trouble going on grades above 1.4%. Which is half the route. USELESS engine. I don't have 4 hours to do 1 service.
