This DLC suffers from lack of testing, like many previous TS DLCs. Many issues came up within minutes. The alerter and passenger view issues are two clearly noticable issues that should have been caught in testing. Fix this and some other issues and I think this could be a decent DLC, but until then, it's not worth it unless you are willing to put up with the annoyances associated with it.

A few features in this DLC seem broken. After an emergency application, restarting your train takes several attempts. Switching cabs and continuing in the other direction in commuter trains simply doesn't work. Controls from the cab car are impossible to use (good luck ever getting your throttle back to 0%). For commuter trains, the LA, San Diego and Miami trainsets are much better built and smoother to operate.
Several glitches in the route as well. Sections of track simply missing. Upcoming speed limits not displayed on the HUD.
Rather underwhelming.

The route itself is nice, trains aswell. I actually liked freight scenarios with GP38-2, those are fine.
Anyway it seems to be UNFINISHED. Typical Dovetail stuff, bugs, weird brakes and little details such as horns or lights.
What is the most annoying thing about this route is two bugged scenarios, or let's say one bugged speed limit, which ruins all the timing of "Fast run to San José" and "Reverse Commuter". You can't make them, you can't get achievements, because you simply can't reach the objective in time. (one of the final blocks has active 10mph speed limit, it should be 40mph).
Not going to recommend this until Dovetail fixes the bugs. And because they are Dovetail, they will never fix old content.

Do not buy this version, buy the Gillroy extension. You will get this route included with the extension for the exact same price, so there is no reason to buy them separately. On sale, the route itself is alright. The rolling stock has well beyond outdated sounds. The UP freight cars are over a decade old, not exactly noteworthy. The commuter stuff is nothing really new, but the models are OK.

It's a really great route! Lots of great city and countryside scenery along the way. The CalTrain MP36, cars and UP GP38-2 are all modelled nicely. The sounds for the GP38-2 are reused but I replaced the horn and left the engine sounds the way they are. Overall great route!

After my first run in this game, I have to say that this route is actually one of the better routes in the game. I may even be harsh with the statement considering my hopes for this route were through the roof since I live about a mile away from the Redwood City station. The horn and bell for this MP36PH-3C are spot on. The accuracy of the route itself is also pretty close to real life (what I have seen riding the train). The main piece of critisism would be the alerter in the loco. It doesn't turn off after which is a major annoyance hearing a constant beeping noise. This HAS to be updated by DTG for this route to be a 10/10. The only other thing I have to comment on is the speed going through CEMOF is a bit slow but that is because there is a 40 sign that doesn't apply until way too late even though you pass it at the right time. Getting those two issues fixed would be a 10/10, but for now I would give a solid 8.5/10

Wow, where do I begin? I had high hopes for this route, and was looking forward to it very much. However, it is a HUGE disappointment. There are some pros, but not many.
Pros:
-MP36 modeling and textures are on point
-Programmable LED numberboard on MP36
-Route itself very accurate
-Horn and bell spot on for MP36
Cons:
-MP36 POORLY scripted. Brakes not functioning properly (too powerful and the independent brake will not go below 20%)
, alerter will not shut off even after reset button has been pressed. Sounds are just recycled F59PHI Surfliner sounds (except for horn and bell), which are even oddly scripted. The lights are waaay off. As in there's only 2 settings aside from OFF, which is Full and Marker. They didn't even include flashing ditch lights.
-The bombardier cabcar is a fucking joke. While it is modeled accurately, and you can program the train number on it, those are about the only 2 things that are on par. The sounds are an abomination. The horn and bell are jut copied over from the MP36, and it seems that there are two interior bells that sound off at the same time for an unharmonious sound. The throttle is poorly scripted, and notching up or down on the throttle will trigger the dynamic brakes on the MP36.
-Scenery is not very accurate in certain areas. Some places missing buildings, one big thing would be various stations missing the Spot Cab signs.
-I'm not sure if it's just my PC acting up, but I haven't even been able to do a full run on the route (at least doing scenarios) because I get a Vertex Buffer error, which with some research I discovered it to be not enough resources on my video card when the game tries to load 3D objects, but that's just not possible considering the specifications of my PC build and the fact that this isn't quite an issue on other routes.
These are just things I can list off the top of my head, but the point of this is that Dovetail let us down with this route, which isn't worth it at 20% off. And to think after the 22nd they're going to make it the same price as the base game which has rolling stock and routes not as rushed. Shame on you Dovetail.

Honestly it just felt lazily done.
They only included the baby bullet rolling stock, when they could've also repainted and added the content from the Chicago route
The horn and bell sounds, while spot are, are poorly done. You can hear the background of a bell when you just use the horn, and when you ring the bell you can barely hear another different bell ringing in the backfround
The cab car is lacking many features
The MP36PH-3C doesn't have flashing ditch lights, and when you flip the light switch in the cab to Headlights+Ditchlights, it turns on the reverse lights. Also the sounds are recycled from all the other F59PH and PHi products dovetail has released.
There's also minor details missing all over the place, there's no skyscrapers in the distance in San Jose, a freeway is missing, among other minor issues.
And finally the physics just don't feel right, everything feels sluggish
Needless to say, I submitted a refund request, and I'll be waiting to maybe buy it again if they decide to fix it.

This is actually a good route. It feels right and just looks good.
MP36:
Pros: Really detailed, new horn, new bell.
Cons: Reused engine sounds, in the horn, you can hear the bell off of the recording, the horn is too weak
Cab Car:
Pros:
Cons: Reused model from Coaster and Metrolink, same horn as MP36
GP38-2:
Pros: New Livery
Cons: Reused everything
All in all, this is a really nice route, but they should have added the F40 and Bi Level gallery cars for stopping services, not just baby bullet services.
I give this a 8/10.

Right here is my reflections on this add-on and sadly I cannot recommend it due to the bugs that I will mention below. I do like the route as it is well made and does have some nice scenery to boot. The MP36PH locomotive and the bi-level coaches are nicely modelled and do look spot on based on my HO scale models of this train I have in model form. However the train is unfortunately married to some bugs that can spoit the enjoyment. Had more beta-testing (if it exists) been done. These issues could have been ironed out before the add-on was released to the public.
Pros:
Nicely detailed route and its a pleasant scenic route to cruise along
Superb 3D Models on the Included trains
Cons:
The Alerter doesn't always cancel and switch off when Q is pressed
The brakes are a bit sticky when applied and sometimes there is a delay when the brakes are released
Some of the Career mode scenarios are poorly optimised as the longer ones do not allow for the 10mph speed limit outside San Jose.
Until these issues are looked into and are corrected. I can only recommend getting this route in the sales.
