How do I feel about Chaser? Rage. I feel rage. There's a review here that goes into amazing detail as to why this is the worst game ever made. When it came out I really loved it, the engine was good, it had new things like enemies spawning behind you, but in reality this is a fake door opening simulator that has about 5 hours of content that will take you 30 hours to consume because it is such a messy pile. Oh, the gun sounds and graphics are dope. Seriously in the running for worst game ever. You will literally spend triple the time trying to open doors that don't open than actually doing every mission. Rage. I feel rage.

I have a vague memory of playing this game as a child so I decided to pick it up again. Unfortunately, it turned out to be disappointing due to outdated mechanics. It starts off promising. The Earth rotates beautifully outside a lab window, my character walks a bit, picking up a dead soldier’s rifle with a good sniper scope. But soon I realized the game revolves around a maze like map of opening identical doors. I entered an open area with three stories and an elevator that takes me to the second floor but not the third. On the second floor, there’s a suspicious pile of boxes that feels like an invitation to climb. Standing on top, I didn't think the jump would work and after a few failed attempts, I wasted 10 minutes checking elevators and exploring before resorting to a Youtube walkthrough. Turns out the boxes were the right way, but making the jump successfully was hard. The next part is escaping the space station, then the game shifts to a new map starting in an alley. Despite inconsistency, the gameplay feels promising, and I was given a powerful shotgun. At the end of the level my character starts seeing flashbacks, and a cutscene begins - only for the game to crash at 1080x1920 resolution. I lowered it to 720x1280 to keep the game running, even then pressing Space to skip cutscenes caused freeze so I was forced to sit through the painfully long Casino/Bar cutscenes, which split into four parts. Eventually, I began a stealth mission where you’re given orders on where to go, turn and which door to open in a building to gather intel. The mission started out well, but when I reached the target position, escaping the building felt impossible. The radio guy abandoned me and a wrong move will trigger an internal bomb, leading to a game over. The most frustrating part is that the wrong way warning comes late, so I couldn’t figure out exactly where it went wrong, the seemingly right path is blocked by an enemy. After too many “I’m sorry goodbye Chicco” game overs, I gave up and deleted the game. I wouldn’t call the game trash but it feels incredibly outdated. If it gets a remaster I’d consider playing again. I rate it positive for the alley level. My curator page
