i think this is a great game, i love the parkour abilities sonic has, and the spin dash is really fun to use. the story is pretty weak, but i dont really care about the story in sonic games so it doesnt bother me that much. the only real complaint i have is the game doesnt do a good job teaching you the mechanics. during one of the bosses, it expects you to know that you can charge your homing attack to a higher level than you can in anywhere else in the game, its really dumb. but its a pretty good game, if its on sale id say its worth picking up

I played the Wii U version back in the day and while this one is missing some of those exclusive features (such as the Zelda and Yoshi DLC levels as well as the circus minigame) this version of the game is better simply due to the animal requirement being significantly lower. You will never run into an issue where you have to grind for animals like you do in the Wii U version. However, being the most tolerable version of a game doesn’t make the game...good. I tried it twice and did not like it twice. The experience is inoffensive, a casual playthrough might even be a little fun, but when you start going for collectibles or trying time attack, all the cracks start to show. It is genuinely one of the most frustrating Sonic games to 100% I have ever played. The parkour system just isn’t as consistent as you want it to be. Sometimes judging the depth for 3D wall jumps is very hard, others Sonic might just not cling to the wall. Throughout the main story you can mostly deal with it, though when your skill is actually tested, that’s when it becomes frustrating. (Looking at you, Silent Forest zone 3.) The game lacks inspiration, the level design is nothing noteworthy, the items are so diminished you often forget you had them until you randomly need bomb, and the Wisps are so bad you try to avoid using them. This is a polished experience without any game-breaking issues, but it offers nothing of value. You won’t miss anything if you skip this one. Actually you’ll save your time and the cost of the game.

it has a good concept but certain things are executed so poorly. The zeti (the main villains) feel really hollow minus zavok. The boss battles you have with them just feel really random and all have gimicks that dont really tie into their personalities. it doesnt help how they were completely disregarded after this game either, obviously minus zavok making minor apperances in forces and TSR. And i know this game targeted towards a younger audience but the dialogue for some of these villains is so corny like unreasonably corny. The movement is funky compared to other sonic games and is allot slower but i think its very fitting considering how the game is played as its very platform heavy. the homing attack is a bit janky but it still works. all in all its not bad but its not good either i did enjoy my playthrough of the game and i do recommend it however it just doesnt really feel like a sonic game and rather more like a mario game and i think thats what they were going for but it just feels weird.

Honestly? The visuals and songs are nice but the gameplay is just... so weird... Like ive never played a game where it felt weird to beat the games with weird controls. Its Ok at best but honestly dont bother, go play another sonic game.

It’s a pretty good game, it’s very reminiscent of Mario galaxy which is fitting as it was released on a Nintendo system as well. However I’m iffy on the controls, having a dedicated run button is helpful sometimes but often just feels like overkill, I like how they used the spindash rather than boost though. Visual quality isn’t great however but that could be related to the size of the screen I’m using and also because of how old the game is. All around though I like the game, glad I got it on sale because I feel like it’s not really worth the $30 retail

This game caused pain in my soul that can only be comparable to CIA torture. The story isn't good, the levels are decent enough since it has variety, but the boss fights are underwhelming and the final boss doesn't even feel like a final boss. If you want to play the game, then I hope this warning helps on your way.

7/10 game 5/10 SONIC game Its fun and has a lot of charm even with its non-existent story and questionable dialogue. The music is good, the levels are fun, and using the new parkour mechanics was really satisfying when mastered. I think this game would be better if it wasn't a sonic game. If its ever on sale i'd say its a good purchase, just don't think of it as a sonic game and you'll enjoy the 6ish hours it takes to complete lol.

An interesting game in the sonic franchise but not one of it's greatest. The game experiments with a lot of new ideas but many ideas don't stick and the experience as a whole is not consistent. Sonic controls are sluggish and not fast at all unless you move in a straight line and nothing else. The Mario galaxy gravity gimmicks aren't utilized to their full potential and are only really a way to separate different paths. Wall running is a cool mechanic but there is barely anywhere to use it. There are also a lot of other one off gimmicks that are somewhat fun but only get used in one or two levels. The level themes are generic and the PC port makes UI elements and text look really pixelated. The writing is atrociously bad with everyone acting like an annoying asshole other than Eggman for some reason. It isn't the worst sonic game at all but it is really underwhelming.

You know what, i really enjoyed this game. It has great level design, awesome catchy music and overall feels like a breath of fresh air gameplay wise cus for once its not just a drag racer with stupid grind rails that autoplays itself. Please keep in mind that this game received a "Mixed" rating cus the sonic fanbase is literally one of the most divided video game fanbases ever. You have those that are hardcore fans of the autorunner style of gameplay, the oldschool players from the 90s who want a more platform heavy style and then those that just like to see something new... Now did SEGA mess up a lot with the Sonic franchise over the years and have caused a divide within their fanbase? Sure, i guess, but lets just look at this game objectively without comparing it to anything else. Its a solid title and i applaud SEGA for trying something new, even if that meant peeking at Nintendos homework for once. I mean its not like DOOM owns the rights to the FPS genre so please kiddos get off your high horses by calling SEGA out for this. lol Definitely grab this if you enjoy any of the super mario galaxy games! 8/10

I would say this is the most mixed bag of a sonic game. The game does something new with how sonic controls. First off the level design takes a lot of inspiration from Mario Galaxy with spherical planet like areas that let you run arounf the entire thing and long pipe areas. Now Sonic doesnt boost in this game and has instead got a run button and spin dash. This is because they focused more on sonics new parkour abilities. He can run up and along most walls and even jump between them. Sonic can also chain his homing attack to hit multiple enemies in one go or charge his homing attackk up to 3 times on 1 enemy. I dont hate this new gameplay style but i think it takes away something important to sonic. His speed. Sonic does not feel fast unless you hit a mach speed section in a level. I also find the nrw controls and game play frustrating a lot and like sometimes it does not register when i'm trying to parkour up a wall. As for the story. It does not take itself too seriously and is pretty simple. Sonic and Tails are chasing Eggman to get back some animals and come across the lost hex and the deadly six and now have to stop them before they destroy the world. I appreciate how they give new light to Eggman and Tails as they both get time to shine and we see different sides to them. Overall this game is very pretty with all the different areas of the Lost Hex and its simplistic story being what it needs. I would say this game has really good moments however Sonic's controls and game play style (Even with the Wisps returning from Sonic Colours) bring this game down for me. They are awkward and slow Sonic down in my opinion.
