I now can reommend this product but must say that its only thanks to fellow gamer for explaining how to get 1.5. dwonloaded. Perhaps some instruction with the product would be a help to others!!! My original post was.... As you cant get version DCS World 1.5 Open Beta on stream then its a waste of money and should not be sold yet on Steam

This is a very nice aircraft, it's fun to fly! It's a very good trainer for pilots who wants a challenge, but doesn't wanna use a whole week on learning all the systems. It took me only 3 hours to learn. Recomeded (9.5/10)

I've always liked the L-39 and decided to buy it to use in multiplayer. It wasn't on sale during the Lunar Sale but I purchased it anyway. I'm having problems with it. The elevator, when deflected upward will not return to neutral. Makes it impossible to fly and/or trim. The flight controls are not listed as axis commands so there is no way to axis tune them. I've searched the DCS forum and found others that have had trimming issues but none mention elevator centering. It's very frustrating to spend that much $$$ on an airplane that can't be flown. I'm sure that there is fix for it, but as of now I haven't been able to find it. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Excellent aircraft to get started in DCS, but you'll out grow it rather fast, it will still be money well spent though. I highly recommend getting the Kursant campaign as well, this will teach you things you don't get in any of the other aircraft but you can apply what you've learned(proper ground attack runs, radio navigation etc) in a lot of other old aircraft like the MiG-15, F-86, MiG-19, MiG-21, F-5E, and maybe even newer aircraft if you don't use EGI/GPS.

Just took the L-39 out for a spin: It's a great looking aircraft; model is beautifully done and cockpit is very detailed. As you would expect from an aircraft of this type, its really easy to fly and operate.

This is my first full fidelty plane, and I must say it is a joy to fly. The plane itself is amazingly modelled, everything from the cockpit details right down to the small indents where the fuselage is rivited together is highly detailed. Whilest obviously requiring more to learn than the low fidelty planes, the process isn't that bad and is a perfect step up from planes such as the A-10A, F-15C or SU-25T. The L-39 serves its purpose as a light trainer perfectly, and whilest its combat role is more limited than the other planes, she is such a pleasure to fly I can't see myself neglecting her for long periods of time. I haven't tested the multicrew aspect yet, but can't wait to take one of my friends out for a test flight. The only negative I found, was the tutorials... whilest clearly written in English, all of the speach was in Russian. Not a problem for many people but I'm one of those that find reading whilest someone is talking difficult so I ended up watching youtube videos and reading the manual rather than doing the tutorials. For me, 9/10... I would have been a 10/10 apart from the tutorials (for me) were hard to follow.

I bought flaming cliffs 3, and the MIGS/SU planes were great. So I decided I wanted a full clickable plane and got the F-16. The F-16 turned out to be fun, but too complex. So I went for a trainer as my 2nd bought Clickable module. I also got this mod on discount, like 20% of I think. Pros: The L-39 is super fun to fly. Is a great trainer, and you can fly it with a friend if they have the Mod as well. My favorite is to take off from the pre-set free flight mission in Syria. Its fully clickable which is great! The View from the backseat and the ability to fly it from the back seat is also super cool! This Mod also gives you the L-39Z version which is a combat aircraft, that has a Incendiary rounds machine gun in the front and can be armed with various Missiles, bombs, extra Machine gun pods, and Aerobatics smoke/ flare bombs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL3hpBHZ6RI L-39Z CAS Mission The Plane comes with a special Flare Dispenser which looks super cool when you fly the plane at night! Cons: It has no counter measures! So if something shoots a missile at you, only your pilot skills will save you if at all! You can pop cute multi-color Aerobatic flares as they shoot you down, but thats it. Its ground steering takes some serious getting use too, I honestly spent more time learning to steer the aircraft to the tarmac and back then I did flying/taking off. Make sure you have the patience to learn the steering and Taxing of the Aircraft! Its just like most of the other Russian Aircraft in that regard. At the beginning I thought the MOD was bugged, the Flaps do not set for landing if your Airspeed is too fast... I think above 140 knotts. The planes like to land a slow speed of 110 I think. Here is a video of my better landings ( last 4 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJdh3y6HX1M&t=653s Overall: I recommend buying this mod, its my favorite aircraft so far. Its my only trainer. As far as the added missions pack for the L-39, its like $6 or something, less than a cup of coffee, I would buy it, but beware the training missions with that Mission pack are a bit buggy, the first one doesnt always work, but for $6 cant complain.

The L-39 Albatros is one of the training aircraft available in DCS. I personally bought the aircraft just to fly around the maps of DCS to explore the landscapes. As a training aircraft, two people can fly in the same aircraft (both must have the same module and map). The cockpit is detailed very well and IMHO they did an excellent job. I really like this aircraft. Flight: Not a fast aircraft (sub-sonic), but not slow either. I think it's plenty fast enough for a trainer. Flight control is very easy with no surprises. Combined with basic instrument operation, this aircraft is a joy to fly for a veteran pilot and I think for a new person learning the basics. Also very nice for a veteran pilot who wants to train new pilots. The L-39 is sometimes used as a 'acrobatic' aircraft I personally found it to be somewhat under powered for acrobatics. Not that it can't do maneuvers; the pilot must be aware of keeping speed at all times and the lack of 'instant' powerful thrust (no afterburner) can be a problem without some forethought. If speed isn't maintained in some maneuvers, it has tendency to yaw on it's own; for example in a loop. Keep high enough speed and it does fine. As I said earlier, I use this aircraft to explore maps. One of the reasons; it's easy to take of and land on short fields like found in the Normandy and Channel maps. Military Use: This aircraft is listed as a 'light' attack aircraft. The word 'light' is important. No RWR, counter measures, radar, etc. Personally I would not use this on a dedicated SAM site. For 'police' actions as truck convoys, camps and smuggler interdiction, I think it would do fine. IMO anything more threatening, as a new pilot; I would go with an aircraft that is easy to learn but has more defense capability as an F-5. Pros: Very detailed cockpit. Ease of operation: Basic controls. Easy to learn. Pretty straight forward to get started and in the air. Very forgiving in spins and mistakes. Nice trainer with some teeth. Very easy to take off and land. Just nice to fly around and have fun. Cons: A little under powered. No afterburner. No defense/RWR, radar. Not a heavy hitter. (Should be expected, it's a trainer.) Not a con: Lessons are in Russian, but plenty of videos from skilled pilots from basic to advanced operation of this aircraft, so for me, not a deal beaker. Highly recommend as long as the pilot knows what this is and it's capabilities and limitations.
tl;dr Excellent training module, with some caveats
The L-39 is a great introduction into the clicky-cockpit jet side of DCS. Not only will you be able to fly with someone else (who also owns the module) but you will be more prepared to tackle the challenges of jets like the MiG-21. The module does include a second “attack” variation called the L-39ZA. Although you can load it up with a modest payload of air-to-air missiles, rockets, unguided bombs or gunpods you should keep in mind that it is still a trainer, lacking countermeasures. If you only want a module to train with then you cannot do better than the L-39. But if you want an easy to learn clicky-cockpit jet that can be more than just a trainer (and you lack the budget to buy more than one module) then I suggest you look at the F-5E Tiger II instead. The only negative things I can say about the L-39 module relate to the training missions: They only have Russian voiceovers. No English versions. And the other negative thing is that the startup training mission includes a lot about radios which should have been its own dedicated training mission. When I buy a module I want to learn the basic startup and get into the air ASAP but instead got a lecture about radios in Russian. I’ll update this review as I spend more time with the module.
