The DB Class 103 operated by DB, was considered the flagship of the DB fleet for a long period. It was up until 1987 that this locomotive monopolized high speed trains in Germany. It is one of the most powerful conventional electric locomotives ever built, with a one hour rating of 10,400KW or 13,900HP.

A beautiful loco which is the ONLY 'Trans Europ Express' livery ingame (without mods).
However, driving this loco on the route Strasbourg - Karlsruhe will make it impossible to pass the border since you need to change the amperes of the pantograph, which is nowhere in the manual as far as I'm aware of (where even do I find the manual?!)...

the locomotive is reproduced really well. The sounds are great. But I have to point out that the LZB does not work, it cannot be activated (Shift + 6). And it is strange because both on the manufacturer's website and in many videos found on Youtube the LZB works correctly. What I mean is that there is information discrepancy between Steam and Virtual Railroads. Let's talk about the same product. It is also strange that in some older versions of Train Simulator the LZB works correctly. The many videos available on Youtube are authentic. I state that I have read the manual several times (I know the setup procedure of the train in question well) but in Train Simulator 2022 there is no way to activate the LZB. In fact, here in the STEAM description under Key Features the LZB is not present. That the manufacturer (VR) has released two different versions since in the description of the same product on the manufacturer's website it lists the LZB among the key features? Can anyone clarify?

It's not a bad add on, though I note previous reviews that state the Steam version is rather cut down compared to the vR directly sold version. The BR103 is one of the most iconic classic era DB electric locos and worked front line long distance services prior to the ICE era. Visually the model is nice, the sounds are good and the physics seem about right. However the cab windows don't open to let a bit of the exterior sound in. The supplied Rheingold coaching stock is very nice, too.
However the add on is let down slightly (not enough to leave a negative review) by the very scant number of scenarios. A grand total of 3 Career scenarios for Hamburg to Hannover, none of which even run the full length of the route. Nothing for any other route and no Standard scenarios. I know to some extent we have become spoiled by TSW and its comprehensive all day timetable, but you would have thought after creating a representation of a much loved loco, the developers would be eager to show it off.
There are a few scenarios on Workshop but most of these require a load of dependant assets (not in my collection) or reference the vR version, not the Steam one sold here. In fact, I didn't think that was permitted in Workshop and that all items in a route or scenario need to be content that's on Steam?
Still as I said it's a sweet little add on, though with hindsight I should have waited for a 50% off sale.

One very nice train for German Routes,
It comes with an excellent model with accurate carriages with their own door animations, also it has passenger views for all carriages and the sound is really high quality, some of the best i've heard. The cab is almost real from the train apart from quite a few of the non-necessary buttons not being functional.
Highly reccomended addon for TS

I really like this add-on. I first saw this locomotive as a Trix/Marklin HO scale model in the 1989 brochure and I bought this add-on as I like the design of the locomotive. It kind of reminds me of a rabbit in its looks and it looks happy. The train is preset to go on the included scenarios. I bought this in the recent sale and I like the quality. You can play with the PZB/Sifa disabled if you find it too hard to control. Just be gentle with the power and it will run okay. A nice realistic German express train in my opinion.

Meh. Model is beautiful. As others have mentioned, this is not the full version, most of the switches don’t work. That is a real disappointment. Otherwise it is fun to drive. Sounds seem realistic. If you end up doing a hard brake or get an emergency brake, you need to let the brake accumulator do its thing for a few seconds. Then engage the brakes slightly until the pressure rises and then disengage the brakes again in order to get going again. If that doesn't work, repeat the process, engage the brakes, wait, disengage. Took me a while to figure this out.

Great locomotive, shame British Rail didn't design the Class 91 along the same lines as the DB 103. The streamlined cab front really evokes the two great things about this locomotive: it's very powerful and pretty fast too. A joy to drive, accelerates very quickly up to speed and the three braking systems work a treat for stations stops from high speeds. Would recommend this to anyone who likes 1960s trains, German trains, high speed trains or just great pieces of railway engineering. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have. The Rheingold coaches that come with it are great as well, with very luxurious interiors, particularly in the Club/Bar car and the Restaurant car. Buy if you enjoy zooming along the ground at 200km/h (124mph) in an electric train full of raw power and tons of it.

A very nice add-on by Virtual Railroads and still holds up well for it's age. The pack focusses on the DB 103 during it's role on the TEE *Trans European Express*. Sporting a lovely beige and red livery the 103 also has matching coaches allowing for full TEE sets to be run.
Internal and external visuals are good and the sounds are alright as well. Being labelled *Pro* it has extra functions normally seen on vR content but these can be played without if it feels too much for the player. Functioning Sifa and PZB but unusually for vR, no functioning LZB which is disappointing for a *Pro* loco and can cause issues during high speed running. Ironically the version from the vR store has a working LZB.
Three scenarios are included, nothing too flash but let you put the train through it's paces. The pack is recommended for those that want a detailed but easy to use pack but for those that take German content seriously or scenario building might be better off buying from vR directly.

I have for most of my life been a fan of both the TEE and the Class 103, however this addon seriously disapointed me.
Unlike most Steam DLC for TS, Steam does not have a free download for this locomotive's manual, as such, I looked to the manuals of other Vr products on steam, the steam manuals were identical to manuals downloaded fro the Vr website. As such, I downloaded the manual from the Vr website and expected it to represent the Steam product. [b] I was SORELY disappointed [/b] on all fronts besides controls, this locomotive excelled, however the controls were sorely lacking for a 'Pro Range' product.
Overall message:
A great product on most fronts, this locomotive lacks the depth of controls expected in a Pro Range product. If you do not care about cold starts and other 'in cab' features, this locomotive is excellent then i recomend it, otherwise, don't buy.

I would really love to recommend this loco. It's generally superb, but has a single, major flaw, which kills most of joy of driving it on Hamburg-Hanover route: no LZB.
Driving 103 at 200 km/h without LZB forces you to use the HUD - and even then any adverse signals are noticed too late to brake properly.
