This a weird one to recommend, but it is still a yes from me overall.
I can see how it obviously does not match the previous games, but if it wasn't associated by name I think it could have it's own vibe going for it. I like the idea of colonists fighting nature on a new frontier, an extremely dangerous planet where everything sucks. The game functions, I don't even have any strong criticisms.
It isn't exactly the most special or interesting game, though. I think that in combination with the massive tone and gameplay shift really puts this one in a weird spot for a lot of people. So yeah, I think it's fine, but probably most people won't care too much about it.

I think this game is a perfect 8. It's the quintessential example of a bygone era in gaming. I liked allot the metroidvania structure of the maps or you could also say the HUB area structure of the world. the gameplay with the mech and on foot is very immersive and entertaining. I really appreciate the presentation of a the story, it's pretty basic stuff, but it complements the game pretty well, Some of the QTEs were a little frustrating. I would call it the good Dead Space 3 game that we never got. Also I know it's cliched to say this, but they don't make games like this anymore. :D

The best way to describe this game is 'Mash F to watch Capcom desecrate the corpse of Lost Planet, for 5 hours'. If you're someone who has never played the first two games before playing this one, you might think Lost Planet was just a generic Gears of War clone with too many quick time events. This game sucks, don't buy it, watch it on YouTube and you'll get to experience about as much gameplay as the person playing it

I think this game shot itself in the foot by calling it Lost plant 3, it is not a 3rd lost planet game its an entirly different genre to the much loved arcade like shooter to play with your friends fighting massive bosses that can eat you whole and goofing about.
Think of it like a spinoff budget adventure game instead, not a great one either. You have to have a constant internet connection or launch steam in offline mode in order to play the SINGLEPLAYER campaign or it ends up booting you out midplay because a millisecond disruption with steam even though you arnt playing online anyway, and really basic stuff is overlooked like the controls showing you the wrong buttons to press for doing actions all the time. Even the correct buttons to press are really counter intuitive, like P? is to pick items up and backspace opens the log which are on the complete opposite side of the keyboard you are playing on. with limited options to rebind them as you can't use duplicates.
The story itself is just boring, like a walking simulator and combat mechanics leave a lot to be desired, the only thing it has going for it is that the akrid are interesting foes but there aren't any new ones it was just reused designs from before which is why still good.
TLDR, dissapointingly its not LP3, we want an actual third lost planet game with massive co-op boss fights again

Well, let's get into the controversial games now shall we? Did Lost Planet 3 kill off the franchise before it had a chance to really get going? Well, much like the actual game its a mixed bag. So lets, get into the pros and cons
Pros-
- Graphics- The weather effects, lighting, outdoor stage design etc. is even now 12 years later still awesome to see and look at. Character models while not terrible are very much running on Unreal 3 and you can see it, but they are by no means terrible.
-Sound- The voice acting is fairly well done, appropriate kind of music, gun sound effects are mostly punchy.
-Gameplay- 1v1 Monster vs Mech or Mech vs Mech fights, what is not to love about it. Dodge, rolls shoot, melee, are all fine and functional.
-Story - There is actually a pretty good solid story in here in the serious B movie Sci-Fi kinda way.
Cons -
- Mission structure- If you hate fetch quests, kill x number of monsters, go here get this thing, and comeback. You will detest this game
-Multiplayer- So two parts to this 1. it's dead (unsurprising given the games age) 2. multiplayer feels very tacked on, The thing that made the say two so interesting was the Co-op. and in the first one multiplayer felt fresh and new. This feels like a product of its time.
- Detection boxes- So say you have to over lapping things that you have to interact with the hit detection boxes for them dont always trigger or will keep bringing up the thing one but not the other adjacent item you are trying to interact with. and since there is A LOT of fetch quests that can make it very annoying.
Overall, really I think what makes this game such a mixed bag for most fans off the series is that it feels like Capcom couldnt figure out what it wanted to be. So instead we get a middling product, with tons of potential, that ends up being lost because its aimless overall development. @ 24.99 I would NOT get it at all, but at the $2.99 to $4.99 I usually see it go to its not terrible at all a solid 33/50.
