Still a classic, definitely better than the first game, and it had some amazing level designs such as in 40 Fathoms, Temple of Xian and Floating Islands. Recommended.

Following the immense success of the original, Tomb Raider II hit the shelves in 1997 and elevated the series to new heights. Building on its predecessor's foundations, the sequel introduced new mechanics, richer environments, and an expanded storyline that certainly kept fans of Lara Croft coming back for more, I know I did.
Tomb Raider II maintains the core (No pun intended) gameplay elements that made the first game a hit while introducing new features to enhance the experience of players. Players now have access to a wider array of weapons, including the harpoon gun, rifle, and grenade launcher to name a few, there's also more human enemies this time around compared to the first game, which combined with the larger arsenal allowed for more varied combat scenarios. There's also the addition of vehicles, such as the motorboat in Venice and snowmobile in Tibet which definitely makes exploration and traversal more fun, though, just a heads up, it does take quite a while to get the hang of these beasts. Other smaller new things includes flares and the addition of modern environments as opposed to purely tombs and ruins.
It's clear that Tomb raider II was trying to be a huge Improvement over it's predecessor in the hopes that by trying to make it bigger, it will make it better. For the most part I'd say Core Design was largely successful, as I enjoyed all the new features and mechanics with the only real flaw being, in my opinion, the game's overwhelming difficulty curve, as this game starts out hard and only gets harder as you go on, which makes it tough to recommend on it's own, but if you played the previous game than I'm sure you'll find just as much enjoyment in this game as I did.
