Love this train, the liveries are beautiful, the model is nicely detailed both in and out, and the included scenarios for the ECML London - Peterborough route are really fun. I see a lot of people complaining about the DSD, but this is a real feature on the Class 91, at least the early InterCity ones, and in my opinion is no different from the Sifa system used on German trains, in fact DSD alerts are slightly less frequent than Sifa ones.

The good: nice model and liveries (branded ones!), good interior. The bad: almost all the sounda are awfull (if you ever heard the real thing). Verdict: of course it's lazily slapped together parts from the leftovers bin but you still need to buy it to complete the route so it's inevitable no matter whether you get the Armstrong Powerhouse enhancement pack or not. Wait for a sale and get it.

Very realistic, all the sounds are tip-top from the Horns to the air discharges and the motor sound of the 91 itself!

This is a really mediocre add-on if you don't use the Armstrong Powerhouse enhancement pack. After buying the enhancement pack, this DLC has actually been one of my favorites. Pros: 1. The modelling is pretty good, the front end, the headlights and grille in particular, seem a slight bit off, but other than that it's pretty ok. 2. The cab looks good. Everything is textured and there aren't any 2D non-functioning buttons that aren't actually modeled and are rather just part of the texture. 3. The scenarios are fun and engaging. Now for the cons, and I'd imagine that these are huge deal breakers: 1. The DVD (driver vigilance device) can only be heard in the cab, without any other way of knowing it's going off outside of the cab. This feature is insanely annoying since there isn't even a way to disable it to begin with! This means that if you don't hear it going off and don't acknowledge it, the train goes into emergency brake without you being able to release it until you've come to a full stop! This completely ruins your chances of being on time in scenarios, not to mention it destroying your score with the emergency break application. 2. The sounds are pretty awful honestly. The running sounds are completely unrealistic and barely even sound like a train! The coaches are also totally silent. They have no run sound. I'm not kidding. 3. The update that Dovetail added to the set doesn't even work properly. Dovetail updated the set with a new livery, the East Coast livery, bringing the livery options to two. However, the East Coast livery has glitches. On the DVT, only one horn tone works. I have no idea why this is even a thing, but it is. Also, the speed set doesn't work either with the livery. Summary: The only way to get a good experience with the Class 91 in Train Simulator is buying the Armstrong Powerhouse Class 91 enhancement pack. It fixes all the glitches and problems that I listed in my "cons" section. It also adds some more liveries, scenarios, and features. It's sad that you have to pay an extra ~$15 just for a good experience. That means that if you want a good Class 91 and don't already own the base DTG DLC, it costs about $35. So, in its stock form, I simply can't recommend the Class 91 add-on. It just has too many glitches and shortcomings. Also I'm sorry if this came off as a rant, I know that it kinda looks like one.

If you are going to buy this unit, get it with the Class 91 Enhancement Pack from Armstrong Powerhouse. The base model has a weird horn, traction motor sounds that are completely wrong, a broken blunt end cab, and a DVD you can't turn off and is completely inaudible. The AP Enhancement Pack fixes these problems and also touches up the default livery, in addition to adding several new ones and three extra scenarios. AP, as usual, transform a mediocre unit into an absolutely fantastic one, but it does say a lot about DTG's quality control. You will also need the EP if you wish to fix the atrocious sounds on the Class 89, alongside the Class 90 pack available from AP's website.

It's a pity there's no "inbetween" option on the recommend portion but overall I'm going to go with "No". While the modelling is very well done both exterior and interior and some reskins out there can make it look even better than the Intercity livery does it suffers from some downsides which include: -AWS Sunflower Indicator not working (flashes on then off once running under cautionary aspects), -No option to disable DVD - making trying to get outside shots a paranoia filled experience and it doesn't help that it's not simulated too well (Time before setting off should be extended when any controls are touched. Also couldn't you give its own key like AP do? Like the E key or something or a NUM key? Because the AWS button isn't how it's reset in real life...) - Crash...to....Desktop. (In other words: Unstability) Trying to place the consists in the Scenario Editor whatever route it is, even on a high end PC is going to crash it to desktop with the good ol' Dump Error this game is infamous for. In fact this reason alone is the very reason I'm writing this review because it's so frustrating and demotivating no doubt for Scenario Creators out there. I don't even know why placing it down is causing it to crash. Also it's a problem when Matt Peddlesden (one of DTG's workers) actually experienced this crash problem when trying to use it in a tutorial. Slightly off topic but all the same: I'd prompt DTG to update the product but it's been out for 2 years now and these problems are still there. They don't seem to be a company that listen to their customers for the most part, I still play the game cause there is good content out there (even if some of it is 3rd party...) and I still remain a train nut. But hey ho I guess we customers will have to continue to go through the poor optimisation (looking at you, GEML) and low framerates on a game that shouldn't experience so. Euro Truck Sim 2 runs perfect on my quite high end PC and never crashes yet this game with graphics in areas that hasn't changed since the original Rail Simulator back in 2006 and can look unimpressive at times has caused tons of dump errors that messes up your gameplay. Ehh, either way I'm typing too much for a review I highly doubt this company with tons of dosh will listen to and continue to re-hash their base game annualy. To finish off, just watch what you spend on DLC.

Very nice model from DTG, looks great inside and out and the textures are very nice. Only disapointment is that there is no cab modelled for the blunt end. Overall great model and I'd reccomend you get it! EDIT: It appears it does include a blunt end cab, I just didn't know how to get to it!

Its a very nice loco, one of my favorites both in game and real life. Well modeled with a good interior, however it's the refurbished cab and carriage view despite the loco being in IC livery, doesn't bother me that much though, and if you want it to fit in there's always re-skins available online. It would be better if you could disable the DSD, as its pretty annoying to watch your train in freecam only to have it emergency brake because you couldn't hear the alarm. Also there's a blind spot in the 91's window where the windscreen wiper doesn't reach, so its impossible to see signals from the driver's perspective if its raining, however this doesn't affect the DVT, so just fly south in the rain where possible xD Very nice addition to ECML line

The DVD is so annoying, but with a Third Party Reskin, this is the real deal, and completes the missing gap of the ECMLS. We still need the Class 317 though, then this is a complete route. (Correct me if I am wrong.)

GET THE WWW.ARMSTRONGPOWERHOUSE.COM ENHANCEMENT PACK FOR THIS. Only then will you enjoy this. The Steam version: Crap sounds - silent coaches as you drive past, loud cooling fans. A super annoying DSD, which you can't hear outside and will emergency stop without warning if you are in exterior view. 1 livery. AP fixes DSD, adds super realistic sounds and adds several new liveries (GNER, Virgin East Coast, NXEC, even re-vamped the InterCity livery etc.) GET THIS IF YOU WANT A PLAYABLE, FUN 91.
