Very great locomotive, the power of 6600hp is awesome and excellent. However, the only disappointment I have is the fuel capacity being set at 2664 gallons, much less then an ES44AC with 5000 gallons and an SD40-2 with 4000 gallons whereas the prototype real life DDA40X only has a much bigger fuel capacity of 8280 gallons. Because of that, I will unfortunately be taking a mark off for the very low fuel capacity as it is not exactly prototypical for a huge locomotive this big and powerful, especially considering the size of the fuel tank. Other than that, the loco is definitely up to the task of pulling long trains on Sherman Hill, a good 9/10 rating from me.

Wow! Great sounds, every window and door works, accurate selector and dynamic brake. Highly recommended! The Sherman Hill scenarios it comes with are a let down, but it's fun to create some 6-8 loco mile and a half double stacks!

Great Loco but One Problem the dymamic brakes will not slow the train down! When i try to create my own free roam map it's not there!

Overall, DTM has done a good job yet again. Pros: -Opening cab doors, windows, inside and outside lighting -Semi realistic physics - Could use some tweaking, but it's fun to make it wheelslip. -Strobe lights - Always fun to turn this on while doing a yard job for some reason. Cons: -Graphics are 3 years old, although I can't complain too terribly much about this. -Horn and bell sounds are "eh". Pretty sure there are some sound mods that'll take care of this on Railworks America. Overall : I do highly reccomend this locomotive, but as always with the older models, wait until they're on sale. 9/10

On sale, and with a third party sound upgrade, this model is really quite neat. Full price without the sound upgrade? No, this is not worth it. Maybe in 2014, but 8 years later? Nah, it hasn't aged that well. The cab texturing is bland, to say the least. External textures are pretty decent.

The DDA40X is, as far as I know, the most powerful diesel-electric locomotive to date. Nuff said. The way it's recreated in TS does not disappoint. The quality of this addon is above average IMO. That's because: - the sounds seem to be just right (I can't tell if they are accurate). The loco does really sound like it has two engines - there's a lot of lights that you can turn on and off separately, even a strobe light - openable windows and doors. it's not really useful but adds some value to the product - there are 3 variations included, this doesn't happen often with loco DLCs. nowadays most locos are released with just a single livery - the included scenarios are enjoyable and reasonably long

You climb up into this huge locomotive and the first thing you notice is the thrum or the twin engines. Yep, that's right. Two 3300 HP diesels. And yep, it does kinda sound like you're hearing two engines. Here's a few things to keep in mind. Despite having 6600 HP it will not pull like some of the new engines. It does not have the tractive effort of them either. It really can't lug up hills below 23 mph or so. As it's geared higher for speed the ameters are buried well into the red. However it does have speed. Few large diesels can make 90 mph! Don't bother with using the dynamic brakes going downhill with a heavy consist though. They're nearly useless. They do work, the ameters say they work. When you apply them there is a shudder in the locomotive like they work. Even the fan on the top that cools the resistors works. But then you realize you're still gaining speed! This is my single largest complaint about this locomotive as I love the routes with mountains. The normal air brakes do work well. They apply very fast. (while I'm not pro, I suspect unrealisticly so). Another lesser complaint - in fact I'm not sure I'd really care to be honest - is that you cannot couple it to a "dead" locomotive and have it work. This is true of a couple of other DTM locomotives. Any other engine works fine. No clue what causes it or why but cranked up at notch 8 it'll do all of 2 mph pulling a single dead engine behind it. Here's what I see as the pros and cons: + It's a DDA40X. A Big Jack. This is good. + In general the sounds are very good. + With the exception of the speedometor, the interior is good + The exterior is excellent. + Realistic simulation of the voltage switching as the locomotive accelerates. (It feels like it shifts gears). + it comes with three different models to fit virtually any scenario you wanted to make. One that is older looking and weathered. One that is less weathered and has a couple of different things changed.. horns on top in a dif spot etc, and the third - how 6936 looks today including the air conditioner that was installed on top of the cab. + Lights on the outside light up - such as the number panel - with switches on the inside. Now the not-so-good: - The braking on the dynamic brake is attrociously bad. - Part of the speedometer is hidden by another panel. Very annoying for anyone who doesn't want to use the HUD. You can see this in a screenshot above. - It will not work when connected to "dead" engines. I believe if you put another locomotive between them it does work however. Despite the fact that I see the dynamic brake as a massive fall back I'm going to recommend it - but get it on sale. First, it may be that it is realistic, tho two SD40's provide much superior braking force and should be approximately equivalent. Second, almost everything else about it is very good. Coupled with the fact that it's an iconic American engine it's an excellent addition to anyones collection.

Okay, where do I start with this one? Pros: Three separate Models: #6936, the last preserved DD40, a weathered edition, and a clean edition, The 6936 has different horn sound from the weathered and clean edition. Each models has different features such as strobe and horn placement Great sounds, well recorded and accurate Opening Cab windows and doors that ACTUALLY AFFECT IN-CAB VOLUME! Class, platform, number, and strobe lights. Scenarios for Sherman Hill Moving brake shoes and cylinders Cons: The flange noise as well as the wind-flow draft are is a little loud, and kindof drowns out everything else. Horn and bell are VERY quiet from in-cab. No brake pressure bleed-off sounds. In conclusion, I would reccommend this loco to EVERYONE, because this add-on may be one of the best currently available, and is ABSOLUTELY worth the money!
