the game stutters and freezes constantly so i cant play it :sob: i havent applied mods yet but i have a feeling that wont work seeing other reviews and the things ive already tried to fix it but this game did give birth to the peak movie sonic the hedgehog 3 edit: i originally didnt recommend this game, but now i am, because i fixed the problem by just not playing it fullscreen, so the game is great other than that

Sonic Adventure 2 was America's first attempt to translate anything from Japan over to eng Very Sugoi, except the part where they forgot to do the entire chao garden voice lines The Chaos Emeralds were supposed to originally be the Chaotic Jewels, but Ryan Drummond; a half blind, dyslexic, Mime Artist (that last part is real btw look it up) misread them as chaos emeralds, nice job jackass

the levels, music and style are iconic

Broken version of the game, constant freezing, and if you play in windowed mode it speeds up the game about 3x for no reason, which breaks cutscenes and desyncs levels with gameplay. Not recommended

Hello. I've been playing this game on stream for around three or four days. I would not recommend using the steam version of SA2 at all. It's very clear that this game has been poorly booted to be "playable" on PC, and it is not compatible in the slightest. [b] There are loads of technical issues. [/b] I had to download an SA2 modpack just to get it running decent. Without the modpack, the game plays way too quickly, almost as if it's on [i] 2x speed. [/i] Controller also isn't available for me (I'm using the Switch pro controller), and after following a guide on how to get controller working, it only just barely works. I struggled a fair while with getting the modpack and the guide to work together, as more times than not, I ended up with either my controller working and the game running at 2x speed, or the game running fine but without controller support. The only solution I had was forcing fullscreen, which froze my PNGtuber model on stream. [b] Even after fixing that issue and getting the game to run, I then ran into MORE technical issues. [/b] After playing the game for a few minutes (I'd say around 10-20, or to where I pass one level), my game starts freezing for 2 seconds every 5 seconds. Even later on, I had texture issues, for example, a whole area of a level creating a seizure on my screen whenever my camera got too close. This happened with two levels. One was Pumpkin Hill on Knuckles section, which was bearable as it's just a collectathon level, but the other was Hidden Base for Tails, which was a "get to the end" section. The texture issues usually happened in areas with jumping and quicksand, so basically blind jumps. I faced the game over screen many times. While the issues of this game were hilarious at first, they are incredibly annoying and unbearable to deal with when I'm trying to complete the game. It's only fun to die when I'm the one making the mistakes, not the game. I do not recommend this version. If someone finds an option that can fix every one of my issues, please let me know so I can continue to play it on stream. Otherwise, playing SA2 at all isn't worth it, and I'd rather spend my time playing games that run better. (Basically every other game I own)

Even without mods this version of the game is crazy good, but I'd still suggest doing your research and getting SA Mod Manager for the betterment of this game's true colors. SA2 Render Fix and Cutscene Revamp ALONE elevate this game so much. Still wish there was an auto-installer modpack like there is for SA1 though...

It’s like, structured chaos. It's messy as hell but also really predictable once you learn it and my brain loves that shit.[/b] [u]"Good for it stuff" checklist:[/u] ✅ Running the same level over and over just to get the S-rank because I physically cannot accept an A. (I have to play levels in multiples of 2 or it feels wrong.) ✅ Knowing every single map layout like it’s burned into my soul. ✅ Quoting the voice acting unironically in normal conversation ("I'll make you eat those words!") and then realizing people have no idea what I'm talking about. Then getting sad because they really should. ✅ Chao Garden. Just. Chao Garden. ✅ Carefully breeding Chaos like I'm a scientist making a new species of god. Also, I name them based on very specific niche references that no one else understands. ✅ The music? Insane. Actually dope and based. Like why does "Escape from the City” go that hard??? A “must listen to it on a loop at least three times a day” type track ✅ Accidentally getting emotionally attached to a blue rat and his edgy doppelgänger. ✅ Experiencing a full-on existential crisis when I realize I've spent more time in the Chao Garden than in actual human relationships. Then deciding that's fine, actually. ✅ Thinking about my breakup while speedrunning Green Forest like it's somehow gonna fix my life. ✅ Wanting to be over it already but also realizing no one will ever love me like I love this game. ✅ Rewatching Sonic cutscenes for comfort because eye contact with real people is too confusing. ✅ The horrible Rouge treasure hunting levels activating my fight-or-flight response but feeling obligated to 100% them anyway because unfinished games make brain and body go *brrrrr* [u]Now, the "imperfections"...[/u] Like yeah, okay, I know, the frickin camera... okay yeah, the camera is absolutely my worst enemy and Rouge's treasure hunting levels make me want to cry. But honestly? None of that matters because I've just accepted the flaws and jank and I love the game anyway. It’s part of the experience and it's part of understanding what love is. The game being held together with duct tape and Sonic the Hedgehog themed hopes and dreams is literally why I love it. While on the topic of Sonic The Hedgehog, I must say this out loud, as I hope someone out there can relate: [spoiler]So, you feet people.... i just dont get it. Except Sonic with his shoes off. I don’t know why, it just makes sense and I don’t want to unpack that.[/spoiler] [u]Final thoughts:[/u] If you like controlled chaos and hyperfixating on repetitive tasks for hours, congrats, you just found your new special interest. get the mods SA2 input controls by Shaddatic for SDL support and modernized controls & HedgePanel if you have troubles with Sonic and Shadow's controls once you do that it's arguably the best sonic game ever made, even without the mods. you can play it vanilla and experience the same greatness I did with my partner and it was awesome. I love this game. I have no nostalgia bias towards it and I fell in love with it very much and am still grinding out those rings for my Chao Garden. I also love the 2 player battle modes and everything they have to offer in terms of replayability and general fun.

I had to make the config files by myself. I must launch it directly through the executable, launcher won't work. I can't play in fullscreen. Half of the controls do not work on keyboard. Great compatibility with modern computers.
