Being that I'm from the Pacific Northwest, I kind of wanted something to mimic the steamers of the area. This addon is a bit dated, so I can't say I totally recommend it. Only for diehard steamer fans. Not terribly complex, and still fun, but not up to the quality of many other addons available right now. Graphically, a bit poor, especially the interior.

I'll admit I'm not the best steam driver, but I simply cannot get this thing faster than 30 mph when I pull cars behind it. The engine looks great and sounds great. It is a good representation of what American steam was (on the outside), but it won't pull anything, even on flat gradients. For the price, I personally would've wanted something specifically for this locomotive like SP&S passenger or frieght cars to make a nice train, but unfortunately there are no such cars. Buy this engine if you want a steam engine, but I don't recommend it. Not enough power, no scenarios, no rolling stock, no point.

What workshop scenarios? As others say looks nice (tho not great) but is a poor performer. I find G-Trax generally unimpressive - Smokebox makes better locos by far.

It's dated, yes. It's not worth 20 bucks either. On sale, though, I do recommend picking it up. Its a lot of fun honestly, and fits in well on any GN route. If you want an idea on how this runs, check out Railworks America under the Cascadian tab. G-Trax put a freeware GN version of this very locomotive to run on the RWA Cascadian route.

The graphics are a bit dated and the controls a little over-simplified, but it's still a good intro to big steam. If you'll pardon the shameless advertising, I created a few custom scenarios for it. They're in my workshop:

I found this loco while looking to buy all of the TS American steam locomotives during the winter sale.
This loco isn't as bad as it seems.
I was able to pull 20 16000-gallon tanker cars up a 0.4% gradient just fine. This loco is a bit slow up 1% gradients or higher with a long consist, but that doesn't stop me from loving and recommending it. It's a powerful flat ground loco for your American collection.

This is an amazing engine to have! The sounds are realistic but the only problem I have with it is theres only two road numbers but that dosnt stop me from giving it a thumbs up!
