This is a good route, and a long one, but lacks scenarios.
From Paddington via Reading all the way to Oxford, which must be one of the longer routes available for the game.
For me, it's such a shame that the scenarios are so limited. There are only two career scenarios, both of which are nigh-on impossible to complete. There are some non-career scenarios which are okay, but why not update this to add more career scenarios, for players who like to complete those...?
Overall, even though it's one of the cheapest routes for the game, and in that sense is quite good value because it's so long, I wouldn't recommend it for that reason. But if you're not fussed about scenarios, it's probably worth it.

The Great Western Main Line route is an incredibly enjoyable and visually detailed experience, considering its age. With its affordable price, this route offers exceptional value for train simulation enthusiasts.
Despite its age, the route still manages to impress with its attention to detail, offering a captivating journey featuring the old Reading station and the absence of electrification. This nostalgic touch adds to the overall charm and authenticity of the route.
Driving the HST, Class 166, and Class 47 on this route is a truly enjoyable experience. The diverse selection of locomotives provides plenty of fun and variety for players to explore the route with different driving styles.
In summary, the Great Western Main Line route delivers a highly satisfying and affordably priced experience. Its attention to detail, considering its age, along with the opportunity to drive iconic locomotives, makes it a must-have for train simulation enthusiasts looking for a captivating and immersive journey on the Great Western Main Line.

Dont get me wrong, this route is great, but it is essentially a Paid Demo of JustTrains Western Mainlines, which on the original one with no extensions gives you the same as this route + Extension to Plymouth via Bristol Temple Meads + Extension to Cardiff via Bristol Parkway. With all the Extensions you get about 85% of the Great Western Mainline. You can even drive a HST direct to Penzance from London Paddington! In this route, the closet you can drive to Cardiff and Penzance is Didcot Parkway. You even get Airport Junction. However, if you dont have the money for JustTrains Western Mainlines (£25 for the Base route, £40 to get all the extensions if you already have the extensions, £60 to get the whole bundle. Essentially most of the Great Western Main Line), then this is a good route. However, if you Can, get Western Mainlines. I do think this is a good route, espessially because I got it for free with the UK version of TS2018. I think DTG should bundle this with TS2021. I think, a good think though, would be if JT put Western Main Lines on Steam

I do understand that this route is one of the oldest on Train Simulator, and that it is wildly out of date now, but as someone who has used this line quite a lot over the years, this is painful to play. There is a somewhat impressive lack of detail over the entire route, which is especially noticeable around stations.
Whilst this route is only £5.99, you will honestly get more value for your money by buying an Off-Peak, Open Return, London Paddington to Oxford ticket and experiencing the route first-hand, albeit not in the driver's cab.

This is okay It has good trains and a route that seriously isn't garbage, all for HK$68. The only problem that I have is when I try to drive an AP Class 387 in a quick drive scenario to Reading which caused an error message to pop up.
Other than that, recommended. 8/10.

Wow this is some good quality DLC and for a very good price (£5.99). Cant fault it and I wish all the DLC was like this. For the price of a sandwich and a drink you can get hours of entertainment from the route and its locos. Simliar DLC can set you back 30 quid.

I got this route automatically as I owned Train Sim pre-2013 but if you don't have it then I'd recommend it (particularly in a sale).
Pros:
- Decent length.
- Plenty of operational scope, with intercity services, regional services, suburban commuter services and freight services.
- Plenty of DLC and freeware that suits this route.
- Covers plenty of eras such as BR Blue, Sectorisation, Early privatisation and contemporary. However Paddington to Hayes and Harlington is electrified, Reading is pre-redevelopment and no electrification exists beyond Hayes and Harlington. Some scenarios will require some imagination.
- Comes with European Loco & Assets, which makes this route worth it alone, as the pack is required for many scenarios, workshop scenarios and freeware.
- Selection of scenarios from range of eras.
- Very tight timings on some of the scenarios.
- Inclusion of Southall Railway Centre and Didcot Railway Centre, which provides some heritage options, particularly in terms of railtours from Southall as you can create multi-part scenarios if you own the likes of the North London Line as there is the link from Acton to Willesden Junction. Didcot Railway Centre is not physically connected to the mainline, which limits any operations to merely shunting around the site.
- Didcot Power Station gives the option of roundabout coal trains.
- Decent opportunity to run the HST (or other high speed units) at 125mph.
- Unlike some other routes, there is enough going on to make running at 125mph not too boring.
Cons:
- Very tight timings on some of the scenarios.
- Looks a bit dated due to the age.
- Some missing OHLE masts, although this might be down to my PC.
- Lacks Heathrow Junction.
- Dodgy electrification - I believe it is impossible to run an electric service on the up slow in the Hanworth area.
- Electrification stops short of a portal, which makes it harder to construct scenarios as down electric services have to terminate at stations rather than continue to the portal to simulate going to Heathrow Aiport and not blocking following services.
Despite the drawbacks, I'd recommend this for anybody who is interested in the Western Region, the 1990-2010 era and having intercity, commuter and freight services mingling. Southall Railway Depot alone makes this a good purchase if like myself you enjoy creating modern steam tours. Through multi-part scenarios this can link up with any other route that connects with the North London Line. i.e. it is possible to run a steam service from Southall Depot to York NRM or a freight train from Colnbrook Terminal to Felixstowe Docks if you own all the relevant DLC.

I don't think this Route is worth the money. This is just the Oxford to Paddington Route from 2007 Rail Simulator with barely any work done to improve it, if any. I know. I have Rail Simulator.
It isn't a great experience. The AI isn't great and it's less than you'd like. The rolling stock you drive is just "ok".
The scenery isn't great also.
You can have fun with this for sure. But if you've played other Routes (more recent and better created) you probably can be disappointed.

This route is a fantastic route.
It's incredibly detailed andvery worth the £9.99 if you canget it on the sale then great!
It's a fantastic route with beautiful locos, realistic sounds beautiful scenery one of the best routes Dovetail Games has actually ever made so all in all if you are starting your collection or expanding it then this route is a perfect buy!
I would certainly reccomend it especially for the £2.99 price on the slae at the moment!
Love it i would give it 5* out of 5
p.s this route is not that graphically demanding so it won't put your pc under too much strain which isareleif unlike some of the newer routes.:)
