The game looks great, but I do not like all the mechanics added in. Card game, complicated controls and the like. I wanted a more Skyrim meets Hogwarts Legacy type game.
It has potential to be great, just not my taste.

I was drawn in by how beautiful the game is and the idea of an open world roguelike but I couldn't figure out why I was doing anything. I ended up just flying from one Icon to another and killing stuff to get stronger. The reason why I was killing them was unclear. After just murdering a camp of 6 goblins for no real reason I started to wonder if I was in fact, the "bad guy". They didn't do anything wrong. For all I know they might have been on a happy family outing when I dropped from the sky to mercilessly murder the entire family for their chest of cards. Yeah, pretty sure you're playing the villain in this game. Absolutely beautiful game though.

A beautifully crafted open world wasted on a rogue-like gameplay model. Combat is straight up bad and the upgrades you get feel impactless. The map is filled with a lot of unique landmarks, most of which you will never explore, and they are all filled with the same mindless tasks that you MUST do if you want to be appropriately powered to tackle bossfights. The thing is, you will die a lot, and because this is a rogue-like that means you must do all of those mindless repetitive activities over and over to get the same impactless upgrades over and over again until you are strong enough. While it only took me 11 hours to get all of the achievements, this felt like a multiple week grind. But again, the world is very well crafted with multiple diverse biomes and honestly the game just looks good. Soundtrack helps accompany the vibe very nicely. Ravenbound should have been a traditional open world game, not whatever this is. Hammers of Avalt DLC is not worth it. Hammers just are not good weapons.
