Fun dialogue with NPCs that have personality, fun combat that allows choice of weapons, tactics, and skils

This may be worth it to some given it's history. But this was my first time playing. It is dated, but felt good for it's age. My issue was more with the performance. My computer can run most games at 4k with no issues. But this game didn't have sound during the cutscenes, dialogue would randomly cut off before finishing, and the game hard crashed my system within 30 minutes of playtime. This isn't worth my time to me.
Also had a hard time getting into the story. I know 30 minutes is nothing, but it starts off with your resurrection through some necromancy portal, making you on the team of the "good guys" who are essentially playing God? Nah. Not my cup of tea.

Played this entirely on Steam deck. No issues at all. Game itself is an improvement on the original but didnt address flaws. Lots of fetch quests and running. Game gets really repetitive and easy quite quickly too. If you're not a completionist, this will be a fun enough experience. I am though and I found it really tedious once I got the end game.

I'm a natural fan of RPG games so playiing this remastered version of a loved game was amazing, it's very easy to get lost in the sheer volume of side quests as you attempt to unlock the world as you attempt to complete the main game
The story line itself isn't like most RPGs I have played in the past which makes me want o keep playing it as get the main game done as quickly as possible but without the best equipment (with a massive aid of crafting my own gear) i was able to get to a high enough level where I didn't have to heal myself with healing potions every five minutes and being able to clear out my backpacks mid dungeon was also a great help
I do recommend you choose which path you want to go down (warrior, rogue or mage) early on in the game and stick to it as that makes life easy despite some of the insane acheievements you can get in this game
Having spent 40 hours playing this I know I have a lot of side quests still to do to get a 100% completion on this game and I have a feeling those quests will add another 40 hours to my gaming time

Wasn’t sure what to expect based on reviews of the base game and the re-release, but I got it during Summer Sale.
KoA:RR is a fun ARPG. Playing as rogue class and I feel adequately powerful and challenged on Hard difficulty. Combat is satisfying, especially when you pull off combos. Gives me Gauntlet Legends vibes for some reason.
The game does a good job letting you know when you’ve entered an area under-leveled. Systems are all over the place, so I’ve been ignoring a lot, like smithing and alchemy, and socketing gems because even though Rare equipment drops are infrequent, they will carry you through long stretches of the game.
As rogue, I just stock up on health and magic potions, and swap equipment with highest defense. I haven’t used anything else.
Rare equipment drops are infrequent, but will carry you through long stretches of the game.
The story is decent. I tried to mainline the MSQ, but the game is structured in a way that you have to do faction quests to gain levels.
There is quite a bit of jank in enemy combat ai and you can easily get overwhelmed by mobs.
It’s a solid 3/5. There’s a good game buried beneath the systems, it’s just not immediately clear how anything works together. As an IP, I think THQ Nordic has a rough gem. A bit of spit and polish and more focused systems in a sequel would be exciting.

I wish this game got more love, time and attention; maybe even a sequel.
It feels like a single player version of MMOs from the late 2000s. The pro to this is you can build quite a few playstyles -- my favorite is finesse/sorcery -- which you can respec for coins. The con to this is that every build will promote performing a specific rotation of skills on repeat for optimal damage. Most of the quests are interesting. The DLC content is pretty good.
I would say, unfortunately, the replay factor is pretty low, or at least some time needs to pass between replays. Once the main quest and DLCs are complete, all other quests are just for completion as you do become overpowered with a few skills and weapons.
I have it on the switch and pc though, so I am a fan. It's worth at least a playthrough if you're an MMO / Rpg / hack and slash fan.
A simple, enjoyable and laid back RPG
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reckoning is a straightforward RPG with easy to understand (bur limited) character builds, a focus on fae and an astounding amount of bloated content.
Pros:
- Combat is enjoyable and simple. *Even with my upcoming criticism, I felt like the power fantasy was enjoyable most of the time.
- The world is focused on Faes, which is a part of fantasy that is rarely exploited to its fullest potential. Faes are at the center of this story and they are also the most enjoyable race/npcs to meet and understand.
- The presentation is nostalgic, reminding me a little of a classic WoW and Fable 1.
- Considering that I do not consider this a game focused on the story, the main story was suprisingly interesting for a classic hero's quest. It was on par with something in a good MMO.
- The variety of weapon is great and they all feel impactful.
- Easy and accessible respec, ahead of its time.
Neutral:
- The music is enchanting yet weirdly forgettable?
- Alot of stagger, this makes the combat more challenging.
- Loot is kinda, eh.
- Bloated side content. This feels like an MMO with a LOT of quest. This is neutral, though, because they are well identified and you can basically skip anything except faction quests and main quests if you want.
Cons:
- The builds are not the most interesting. There is 3 trees, finesse, might and sorcery. in theory, you can choose one of them or mix and match. The issue is, you wont get enough point to really experiment before very late game and if you focus on a tree like I did, you need to max almost all abilities to get the max level ''class'' (destinies, they are called). Basically, at some point you have to invest points in stuff you dont need just to get your final class. At this point there is no choice, everyone uses all the same abilities.
The idea is great, like in grim dawn/titan quest you're supposed to create you class. But the reality is that there is only so much active abilities and as an endgame archmage I was only spamming the same 3 or 4 abilities.
The redeeming factor is that at the point where the illusion of build shatters, you get to be so overpowered it's fun in its own way.

An underrated ARPG. Excellent combat, flexible character building, decent crafting system. Huge, interesting world. Average story, but it's well told. It's the gameplay and massive amount of content that really shines here. And as a bonus, higher difficulties feel very Soulslike, for fans of the genre.
As for the remaster itself, aside from the usual added graphical polish (which is very noticeable and makes the game much more enjoyable) the worst flaw from the original, the terrible camera, is gone -- and the camera is now completely customizable. This alone makes the replay worth it, and a joy to experience compared to the OG.
Highly recommended for RPG fans or anyone who loves exploration. If you're unsure, wait for a sale -- especially for the underwhelming new DLC, Fatesworn. It's pretty meh, but doesn't hurt the overall game quality.

if you like action, and you like being able to change things on a fly then this is your game. Maybe you start off a magic user and dont like it, instead of loosing all your hard work and starting over you can just change your fate and make another class you can try. From potions, to gems, to blacksmithing armor and weapons, even the option of being bad and stealing shit and killing guards and npcs. I have not tried that route, but I bet that brings a whole new adventure to life.
