I cant recommend this game enough the combat while simple is extremely well done and the story is simply magnificent. I also adore the artstyle this game has there are really only two problems with this game
1 sometimes it can feel a little bloated and too big with all the side quests tasks and world map size, however not every quest is extremely long and many are fluff this is more of a genre problem less of a game one.
2 There are too many unique armor sets that have unique perks and appearances this is only a negative beacuse it's too easy to overlevel only having a set of 1-3 parts and no way to get them again I doubt anything wil happen but I would love a shop where you could buy the sets an dmaybe a way to upgrade or change the apperance to another set

Everything is nice about this game. The combat was way better than anticipated. The whole game has a cartoony charm also. Like WoW but better.

Fun RPG that you play with a controller. Lots of items everywhere to find. Decent fight and pretty much open world. Crazy number of side quests and tasks to get sidetracked with. All in all a fun game.

The combat is fun for the first couple of hours then just gets frustrating when your attacks get interrupted by enemy attacks constantly and you're constantly bashed on after you're staggered just once. Most of the other mechanics in the game are just serviceable at best. The story wasn't something I found too interesting and most of the side quests seem to be fetch quests to the point the whole game feels like a one person MMO. The world itself and lore itself isn't all too interesting. If the game were to come out in current year I wouldn't be surprised if it were accused of being AI-Generated since so many of the names for places or people sound like someone trying way too hard to come up with unique fantasy names and the world itself just feels generic with mostly forgettable NPCs. Not technically a terrible game but not engrossign enough to push through most of "100s of hours" of content here.

Game was very fun for a first time player of it but about 12 hours into the game everything crashes it. I walk into a building, crashes. I die and respawn? Crashes. Very annoying and buggy. I can't play it anymore.

I have loved the original for many years since I was younger and even played this version on the Switch when it first came out. However after buying the game for PC recently I found it runs horrendously. I've spent hours combing the bug/support thread and following what troubleshooting I could and found a hundred different solutions to different problems none of which have worked for me. I hate to leave a poor review because the game itself is AMAZING but currently Re-Reckoning is not something I could recommend to someone considering it's borderline unplayable for me. If you want to play this game and don't mind missing out on the minor tweaks Re-Reckoning makes and the Fatesworn DLC just play the original.

One of my favorite games of all time. That's not to say that it's a perfect game, far from it, but it connects with me in a way that few other games do. The aesthetic of High Fantasy in a magical world is prevalent in everything here, from the environments to the enemy designs to the story. The original team breathed life into Amalur, and THQ Nordic did a solid job taking up the torch.
Many of the game's issues stem from the sheer ambition of the developers. Forty plus zones to explore during the main quest, each with their own side quests and characters, along with faction specific quests? There is a massive amount of stuff here, and it will absolutely get repetitive for completionists. Even with a solid enemy variety and interesting lore/writing backing many the quests, that's a whole lot of content to dig through. Bugs exist plentifully and can be annoying, though many of the worst ones were polished out in the redone version. During my latest playthrough, I had no significant issues.
Despite the occasional grind while trying to get every quest done, I enjoyed myself. The combat has enough style to stay interesting, especially since you can change your build and playstyle easily to experiment with new things. Many of the characters are stock fantasy, but there's just enough twists on the typical formula that I actually enjoyed playing through more than one time. There's no karma system, and few major choices to justify immediate playthroughs, but I can't help but dive into the game a third time now. There's so much soul in this world, and the lore goes far deeper than it can ever realize in this game alone (It was planned for a series with an MMO to be made eventually, so they needed lots of lore).
Despite any issues I have with the game, I just get sucked into it every time I touch it. Dalentarth's skyscraper sized trees, the Summer Fae and their cyclical, alien method of thinking, the siege of an immense fortress city, it's just pure fantasy goodness. It's imagination brought to life, and I just adore the game. I want to go and fight the undead pirate Dead Kel, fake a spoiled nobleman's death to get him shipped off to the front lines, and have philosophical debates with rock giants (That involves beating each other half to death) in a floating city all over again. Even though the newest DLC content doesn't quite reach the heights of the rest of the game, there was still plenty to enjoy in it, and I'm glad to have more Amalur.
Highly recommend this game, flaws and all. Watch out for Niskaru.

After 150ish hours, why don't I recommend it? 150 hours was because of nostalgia. The review is because I don't want other to be as blinded by it as I was. Don't get me wrong, I love the game - but I can't recommend it in good conscious.
BASE GAME
The story/lore of the story is surprisingly very rich and detailed. Each of the faction quests are pretty good and I particularly liked the Seelie storyline. That isn't to say that the others were slouches. Theywere very close in terms of quality. The side quests are extremely large in quantity and some of them have a good touch of humour as well. However they will inevitably become repetitive after the first 50...and there are close to 250 of them (more if not less). Overall, the story ranges from mid to pretty good and I think that is alright.
The exploration can become very tedious. However, the level is capped at 40 and hence you are given the opportunity to mix and match your playstyle and try out different builds to keep the exploration fresh. But the main reason why you'd want to explore is if you are a lore buff like me. If not, don't bother turning every nook and cranny of the world - it isn't particularly worth it. And the world is large - very large. Also an advice - don't explore caves and shit before you get the (possible) corresponding quest in the subregion. Only go into the caves after you've done all side quests in the sub-region. That was, you won't be backtracking caves all the time.
The combat is pretty good. I loved the combat and the classes given. There are 7 different playstyles you can try and although they aren't balanced well enough, you are given ample opportunity to try out different builds. THis is due to the cap at level 40, which you will reach by the time you are completing your third major region (Detyre or Erathell) if you are questing religiously. I found the spellcloak (finesse-magic) class to be the strongest, while enjoying the bladedancer (might-finesse) class to be my personal favourite and default playstyle. The solo classes aren't that interesting imo.
Now for the negatives and why I DO NOT recommend this game in its current and probably final state. The game is extremely unpolished and has quest breaking bugs that can occur just because you explored a region before talking to a side quest giver. I've read about some quest breaking bugs occuring even during the main storyline, which is unacceptable even if i did not suffer from that. The inventory management is atrocious and stuff will get locked into your inventory with no way of removing them. I had 2 crashes outright. I also had a save unreadable error that I needed to verify files through steam to fix. This was 50 hours into the game. This is not acceptable for me at all. So if you are willing to look past that, you have a pretty enjoyable game. But I can't in good conscience, recommend it.

DLC 1 and 2
The Kollosae dlc was pretty good and bug free for me. The storyline had heart and humour. I personally loved the debate club. Plato would've been proud. Very Greek, very nice. I liked this one.
The Dead Kel on the other hand, was a glorified base-building add-on. *SPOILERS* You even get married and woo your ship captain while you're at it *SPOILERS END*. It felt like an end game, but then DLC 3 comes along. The story wasn't particularly interesting. The villain wasn't built up as well as necessary for such a narrative to be effective and the lore was sorely lacking here.
Also, a nit pick. The faction quests here are actually tasks. But they populate the faction quest tab. I hate it.

DLC 3 - Fatesworn
The canonical ending of the game. I get the premise, but couldn't shake the feeling of 'what was the point then' out of my mind. But perhaps, that was the point. It is fine actually. Mithros was passable with its lore but still very lacking in its culture. The exploration was very bad and tedious due to non-existence of frequent travel points. At this point I was >100 hours into the game so I was slowly beginning to feel the boredom seep in (I don't get bored easily).
You also get a new skill section and 10 extra levels to cap at 50.
And then came the endgame dungeoning. That killed any fun I had with the combat. You had 19 open world dungeons to take care of - and each one of them is exactly the same with the same enemies with no added lore tying them. At this point, I only had to explore the solo Arcane and jack-of-all trades build and I don't know which is worse - the flat gameplay of the mage type or the sheer repetitiveness of the dungeons. Not fun. And then the story forces you to 6 larger dungeons again. That took me close to 20 hours to complete, with nothing added to my gameplay experience. The 10 extra levels you are given will be levelled up by the time you are in the endgame dungeons anyway so you are not even growing your character. And if you do not explore the character classes or do not want to, you will eventually end up hating your class by the time you complete the 25th dungeon. If you do not care about the story or are satisfied with the ending of the base-game (yes, talking to all 8.2% of you), you can skip playing this one. It isn't worth it imo.

tldr: Extremely buggy, unpolished game. Move past it and you do get a solid combat system and pretty good and detailed lore about a mildly interesting world. Whether you want to move past it is upto you. I don't want to recommend it at this state.
If you want to play the dlc - play the first one - the Kollosae one. The other two can be safely skipped - even the canonical ending of the Fatesworn dlc.
So 4/10. Nostalgia carried me through as it did a lot of us here. I can't imagine a new player actually forgiving that much jank in the game.

It's alright for what it is. The first few hours are fun, but then you realise everything just feels the same. I found myself just pushing through the bore, just so I could get through the story. After realising that, I just stopped playing in general. You might have more fun than I did but it just wasn't for me.
