Have You Got A Licence For That God?
Dread delusion is a hauntingly beautiful RPG experience that offers an artistic take on a broken world with a 'Sit back and relax' kind of gameplay approach. You , as the prisoner, become a confessor to gain your freedom in the lands of Oneiric Islands; a world that consists of numerous sky islands which revolve around a neutron star. I define this product 'hauntingly beautiful' because the world makes you feel like the game's world is a lot similar to DarkSouls' world. As you keep playing you realize that the world is pretty much in a bad shape. The difference between them is that the artstyle of Dread Delusion and the music offers somewhat relaxing , a little sad but still a beautiful atmosphere compared to what DarkSouls' worlds offer most of the time. As an RPG game i think the developers did pretty well in this game. You can increase your attributes related to combat, bartering, lockpicking etc. and sometimes there are situations/quests you will get checked if you got enough of those attributes or not. You might think you'd be stuck on some of these situations but no, you can get some wearables/consumables to deal with it which makes it kind of balanced and not ruining your gameplay at all. The character dialogues and quest designs were decent too, it was pretty much enjoyable. The reason I consider this game a 'sit back&relax' experience is because the combat is too simple, the consumables are most of the time too broken(for instance you can have like 300 throwable damage dealer consumables , it doesn't have any cap and they deal pretty much a good amount of damage) and there is no boss fight at all. maybe 1 or 2 miniboss fights but thats it. This doesn't mean the combat was bad or the game was bad but rather it was enjoyable while i was laying down on a couch and playing with my controller. So overall this game refers to casuals instead of tryhards if you are looking for something else challenging. The story is phenamonal, I enjoyed every single part of it. The complexity of feelings of the characters sometimes gave me goosebumps whenever i got too much immerse into the game. The more you play, the more characters&the world grows on you. So you become attached to it somehow and because of that, ending makes it much more impactful than it should be. I also want to point out that the level design and the exploration was really enjoyable. Whenever I wanted to check out a place with a 'what if?..' feeling, I was most of the time rewarded. The fact that the world is a bunch of sky islands makes you question what lies up there and piques your curiosity was actually done nicely, it is satisfying. When you become too engrossed in the world of Dread Delusion, you might ask to yourself 'I'm probably at the limit of my immersion, right?' the game responds you with the hausing system. Even though it's a pretty simple system for the player; just to have your own house and decorating it, upgrading it within the oneiric islands was another satisfying element i found myself quite much enjoying. There is also airship system which i did enjoy as well but it happened too late in the game, like near the end of the story. The only lacking element i found in this game was that the only storytelling element is reading. A lot through my playthrough I wanted to have voice-over, some cutscenes instead of yellow italic texts. Besides from this i really enjoyed my playthrough. Overall, the game for me is a 8.1/10. I'd suggest any person that wants to read a decent story with nice atmosphere this game. If the game had a little more complex gameplay, challenging boss fights, voice-over and fully animated cutscenes instead of yellow-italic text I'd probably give this game a 8.7-9/10 but nevertheless the game is really good.
