Metroidvania in nature so you have an idea of what you're getting into. A very simple yet entertaining title. No need to worry about commitment cause the game's only a couple hours long. I went beyond that cause I like to really take my time. I jokingly described the character description and combat to a friend as "You're from the church yes, but rather than heavy templar armour and weaponry you're a nippon ichi sword waifu. Jokes aside if you're not familiar with the sword master archetype and playstyle well....get used to it cause it's necessary. Parries, counters, and dodges are your bread & butter rather than a typical shield. Certain common enemies do heavy dmg so hopefully you'll have adapted before encountering them (plus the parry/counter feature is extremely forgiving). Art fits the environment and story wonderfully. From the lighting/building structures to the corpses laying about. Personally I would've liked some more variety to the witch-themed enemies but it's all good. I really like the OS. Really helps draw you into the atmosphere of the game regardless of what section your in. Proper headphones will have you appreciating this. Haven't looked yet but hopefully it's possible to purchase an album somewhere. Overall a really good game to pick up and get into. I didn't have to question much cause I've played some of the other titles these devs have so I was game from the beginning. Also if you've played/heard of anything Warhammer related lately you'd hear non-stop meme references to burning/slaying heretics :p. That and the Holy War topic is generally interesting to me. Two main gripes come to mind with this title as much as I like it: 1) The Narrative is typical. While the church definitely has more than a spotty history and makes for great reference I feel some entertainment media is too quick to vilify them. I love looking into lores and this game shows you it's narrative through story scenes and expositions of the archives, but the morality line is too easily black & white. They revealed this pretty early as well iirc. I think a moral grey line/lesser of two evils would have you contemplating what path to walk cause what's truly correct anyway? It helps you put more thought into picking a side. I do like that you have the option though rather than a no-choice typical hero story so that's nice. 2) I was hoping to get a bit more creative with combos in battle. I'm thankful that different weapons have different attack patterns but it'd be nice to expand a little in terms of combo creativity. Basically having more forms/strings of weapon attacks. 3) Would be nice if the clear game save file brought you back to before the final scene so you wouldn't have to NG+ just to get the other ending.
