REVIEW:
After the horrors endured by the first two games in the series, I was happily relieved to get a break from (consecutively playing) this series' main theme - with lots of laughs, lighthearted moments and a good ole time! And at first, I really and truly had a good time! Happy birthday, Sachiko ... 2U!
Knowing this game was canon going in (?!), I wondered what made it so. Only 3 minutes into it and I was already loving it; I was bursting out with laughter from multiple different comedic styles. Ahh. The writing was brilliant; there were lots of fourth wall breaks and I was genuinely happy to see some of these characters meeting, that didn't previously get to meet before. For the first few hours (first two Chapters), I was having a ball.
The honeymoon phase didn't last too long, however, as the game needed to swiftly bring the party to a close - ASAP - without my - RSVP!

RUNDOWN:

STORY
Let's be honest. It'd be weird if you weren't playing this game for anything but the story. So how is the birthday party, instead of the corpse one? Well, don't get me wrong, Corpse Party is a great series. It's the sole reason I played through this entire game. But holy, holy, horny. This story has some really nauseating humor, to the point of me eye-rolling, eye-squinting and cringing. This can also lead to boredom, and wishing that the game would move on to the next Chapter.
Around 30-40% of the game was basically sifting through a ton of child sexualization and other weird sexual behavior. Y'know, the Corpse Party usual. Yet, it appeared far more often in this than the other two games, which is why I'm complaining. Understandably, this game is for the fans and there's very little horror involved; it's supposed to be lighthearted. But I was led into a false sense of hope when the writing started off so clever and well-delivered. It just ends up getting... weird... to say the least... I guess they ran out of clever jokes and plot, so they had to find a different way of pleasing (...?) the fans?
I don't hate this game. I like it. In the beginning, there were parts that could've made me love it, even. I would still say that if - and it's a BIG "if" - you're a genuine fan of the series, you should play through this game. There's still a lot to like about it. Some Chapters are hilarious and it has some great nods to the series!

GAMEPLAY
There's virtually no gameplay, it's just a visual novel. Chapter outcomes are affected by certain choices; some choices make sense and some are confusing and make little sense.

VISUALS
The character art is pleasing; it's very colorful with a unique cast (40+ characters)! The backgrounds are good enough. The game layout (UI/UX) was exactly the same as the last game, all the way down to the settings. Please stop with the gross images of "fan-service", having to do with children, thank you.

DIFFICULTY
I didn't give it a lower score, because it being easy is a good thing; otherwise, the game would've dragged on forever.

MUSIC & SFX
This music is good, but doesn't quite hit as hard as Book of Shadows did. The new "Wrong End" theme was alright.

VOICE ACTING
Finally, I am used to Japanese VAs and I think they did great. There is a LOT of voice acting in here! I still think it's cringy sometimes, mainly because of the characters: Inumaru, Sayaka and Yuka. Some of the best voices were Sachiko, Morishige, Kizami, Yoshiki, Satoshi, Naomi and Seiko.
YES! There weren't as many *RARGHs* and *WEHHHs* in the game!! DOUBLE YES - More Soulful Testimonies (interviews) were in this game, including Ikue Otani (Sachiko).

GRIND
Reading through some of the foul story segments was the ultimate grind. I wish I were kidding. Luckily, you can skip text fast and you have 64 save slots.

EXTRAS & SIDE QUESTS
Similar to Book of Shadows, all the extras are back in birthday style.
In this, there's even more extras in the Bonus menu! There's great lore to read! It helped me clear up some confusion with things in the series. For an example, there's a Shinozaki family tree, that lets you view the bloodline. Also, there are character relationship charts of: friends, enemies, family and lovers - it's a cute touch.
There's an extra chapter of a couple new characters once completing the game. It's.. fine. It wasn't that interesting but it doesn't affect my score.

GAME TIME
It'll take you around 20-30 hours to finish. I wish the game was about 10 hours. There's a lot of content in here, but for various reasons it drags on.

END-GAME CONTENT
N/A

REPLAYABILITY
You'll want to replay the Chapters to get "Wrong Ends" and the "True Ends". Well... maybe. If you're a loyal fan, you might.

PRICE
I would honestly wait for a sale before you purchase this. Steer clear if you've played no other Corpse Party before - you will hate this game - unless you're a psychopath, that is.

BUGS
Like Book of Shadows, basically the same bugs. Starting up the game, having multiple monitors hooked up really screwed with getting the game to even show up. Once again, I had to manually click A a LOT to change the res/FPS. And this happened multiple times. Heavenly Host have mercy.

PC SPECS
Has a lot of different choices for resolution and frame rate - trust me, I know this 😔 (see "BUGS" section to see my pain).

AUDIENCE
MATURE. ONLY.
