Ah, the GP40-2. The successor to one of EMD's most successful four-axle road switchers. DTG originally released this back in 2018, and I picked it up during the winter sale, and I have to say, that this is probably one of DTG's BEST American locomotives released in the past couple of years.
Sounds
The sounds are great, though the engine sounds are recycled from the F40PH. The other than that the bell is good, and there are two different horns for the the five liveries, The CSX and NS units have a K5LA, while the UP, WP, and D&RGW units have an S3.
Liveries
Speaking of the liveries, they are AWESOME! The five liveries include CSX YN3, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific Armor Yellow (with UNION PACIFIC painted on the side), Western Pacific Olive Green with Orange lettering, and Denver & Rio Grande Western. They are modeled spectacularly, with almost every unit having a unique feature (i.e, the CSX, NS, and UP units have ditchlights while the WP unit has classlights and a gyralight, and the D&RGW unit has ditchlights, classlights, and a gyralight).
Physics
The physics actually surprised me, they're realistic! The dynamic brakes actually worked when I tested them going down a 1.5% grade with a loaded freight train! The brake physics are realistic, taking a little while to fully apply, and taking a little while to come off, instead of the DTG standard, which is instant. Also, the general pulling power, fuel consumption, and speed are pretty realistic, which is very nice.
Miscellaneous
Some other things that I like are the included rolling stock, and the lighting. The pack includes six cars: A D&RGW hopper, a UP Steel Coil Car, a rock hopper, a CSX boxcar, an auto-parts boxcar, and a 3-bay covered hopper. These are all great additions to the pack, letting you pull a diverse range of equipment, on any route (the GP40-2 is QD compatible). The lighting is super nice, and looks realistic. The ditchlights actually FADE in and out, which could previously really only be found on payware 3rd party add-ons. The lights also just glow a really nice yellow, making them actually look like incandescent bulbs.
Final Verdict
The EMD GP40-2, produced by DTG is easily one of my favorite locos. From it's realistic physics to its textures, it is just one great piece of DLC, and in my opinion is worth the $20. I rate this a solid 9/10.

For 20.00 USD this pack is well worth it. Each GP40 road name is unique in the way that certain features are present on one locomotive but not on another, such as ditch lights, working gyra light, class lights, etc. The lighting controls are very well done as it gives you complete independent and realistic control over the rear and front lighting as well as dim, medium and bright settings. Each GP40 is nicely detailed with no noticable bugs, so overall I think this would make a great addition to your virtual railroad

I genuinely love these locos and they have served me well up until just recently. Now all of a sudden I can not use them. If I attempt to pull any wagons at all, they just fall over sideways and off the tracks and that is if I get lucky enough to enough get a connection. Speaking of connection, now all of a sudden I can not get a connection to any wagons or a full consist at all. at any MPH at all, less than 5, more than 1, less than 1 if I touch a wagon they go flying like I hit them at 15 mph and they land back upright and engine will not move at all but it shows consist connected. Not sure what has happened recently.

What an excellent Loco.
Motor sounds are just great, moving from idle to notch 1 and you get a definite change in the sound,
Individual head lights can be set from Dim to Mid to Bright or off if running several locos together.
I will be using this version of the GP40-2 in my scenarios.

A Reppo classic. This pack was really developed by Reppo, but DTG did have a small hand in it. For starters, you can cold start these babies and they sound just like actual GP40-2s. They also got a lot of details right, though I'm no locomotive expert, so I can't say for certain what they got right and what they got wrong, apart from any images I am able to find on the internet. Nevertheless, this is a good Reppo product that you really shouldn't miss.

I don't know if anybody noticed, but other than the excellent physics and graphics on this loco, there's something wrong with the lights...They don't work AT ALL! I haven't tried the other GP40s yet, but in one nightime scenario that i made using the CSX GP40, the only lights that do work are the flashing ditch lights whenever you sound the horn. Has anyone else out there have this same issue?
Other than that, very nice loco pack!

This pack is amazing.
Pros
- 5 different paint schemes
- paint is crisp and clear, although showing some weathering
- the cab is new and extremely high-detail
- 2 different horns (Norfolk Southern and CSX engines have a K5LA, and the Western Pacific, D&RGW, and Union Pacific have an RS3)
- short (press 'c') and standard-release (spacebar) horns
- realistic ditchlight and headlight controls + realistically fading ditchlights and headlights
- road-specific details (headlight placement, ditchlights, gyralight, class lights, horn, bell, etc)
- realistic physics-brakes apply and release accurately (albeit a bit slow for my liking)
- most of the in-cab switches work
- running and cold-and-dark versions
- 3 included scenarios for the D&RGW GP40-2 on the Soldier Summit route (not included, duh)
- freight cars specific to each unit
Cons
- cab windows don't open
- short horn and long horn fade out at slightly different volumes, might have to tweak settings
- sounds reused from the F40, but have a different rumble behind them, and a hint of 20-645 in the background
-the startup just goes from 0 straight to 315 rpm, no startup noises
Overall, this is easily one of my favorite locomotives. There isn't anything to not like about it. It's worth the $20, but if there's a sale coming, hold off for a week or two and save five bucks. Rating: 9.5/10

Train Simulator: GP40-2 Loco Pack Add-On
This engine, as far as Train Simulator goes, is great. The engine has many features, all which work fine and apart from a normal running model there is a Cold & Dark version (for manual firing up). The rolling stock freight cars are good, but would of been good to see some new items (like CSX/NS Autoracks or Coil cars etc). The engine works well in the physics department, working well hauling heavy loads and the lights all function well (All lights control from in Cab—Nice!). Sounds seem good, better than I expected. The only down side I had was waiting for the release of this pack, which was a day short of a month after DTG announced on FB it was "a few days away".
But really, a great engine pack, I love it. Already one fo my favourite engines in TS20xx. A awesome engine.
Highly Recommended!

Personally I liked this DLC, but I believe others will hate it. It lacks a lot, but it does have some neat quirks to it.
Pros:
-Well modelled GP40-2s based on prototypes
-Quite complex headlight/ditch light system, first time i've ever seen ditch lights in the game that actually fade in and out!
-Variety of railroads to choose from
-Comes with a selection of cars
Cons:
-Bell isn't really accurate
-Reused sounds from F40PHs
-Horn loop is kind of iffy and just doesn't seem right to me.
-Lack of features in the cab, such as no opening doors/windows.
-Some details are inaccurate showing that this addon may have been rushed out.
Conclusion: Get it when on sale more than likely. I like this addon mostly because of the variety and accuracy on the model. Also, of course I like how we now have fading ditch lights finally!
