Life is Tumblr: Before the ♥♥♥♥-storm If you thought Chloe was annoying and insufferable in the first LIS, get ready for Rachel Amber. Hyped up from the previous game to the heavens, it turns out she is a manipulative, self-absorbed narcissist that lashes out at everyone when she does not get what she wants. Chloe is basically just a mindless puppy that does everything what dear Rachel wants and just gets herself deeper and deeper in ♥♥♥♥. The two are walking train-wrecks; I guess they deserve each other. The bonus episode is very bitter sweet, but is sadly buried behind an atrocious price model: You can’t buy the bonus episode on its own, you have to shell out the 10€ extra for the deluxe “upgrade” which is just clothes you can play dress up with, and the bonus episode.

More like hella empty, amiright? We finally come to the ending of the Before the Storm episodic trilogy. What will come of everything that happened? How will we further the connection between Chloe and Rachel? And how much can we cry after we remember what happened to Rachel in the main series? After the bombshell we received at the end of second episode, we finally get to know who exactly is the woman, Sera, that Rachel’s father kissed in the first episode. I especially loved this sequence and was a great way to open. We at least get a more human version of Rachel’s parents, which did seem a little...robotic and unfeeling. We get to see that they actually do make mistakes that well, ultimately ruined their relationship with Rachel (no matter what ending you choose). This last episode really seems kinda like it would have helped to cut out some of the fluff that was added in the other episodes. At some points it really seems rushed, which can be due to trying to tie up every loose end. Which in turn does take away interactions between Chloe and Rachel and instead switches it for doing something for her. Another episode could have also helped, but it is very likely the same situation could have still happened either way. So better planning of each plot point and making it fit into a three episode structure would have been for the best. Eliot is one of the puzzlers. If you looked at how little he was focused on after his first appearance as a boy that obviously has a crush on his friend and never had any conversations with her other than “hey want to go to…” his actions in this one doesn’t seem believable. In a sense that we only ever get the sense that he only wanted to hang out with Chloe more but then comes full stalker (and the scene it becomes known doesn’t exactly make sense? Considering how long we play as Chloe compared to when he arrives). He really needed more hints throughout all the episodes (perhaps like how we can see Warren peeking around the corner to see if Max woke up through a window or weird comments showing he knows our actions?) or just don’t include the scene in the first place. As it just seems a way to have a backtalk and to have a tense scene...even though the scene was already tense and could have included a backtalk. We come to the height of the best backtalks in the season, rivaled by the brilliance of episode 2’s hilarious women problems one. It actually is used in a very useful and more realistic way. I honestly can’t tell if the reason is that the writing got better, Chloe as a character evolved (even though canonically it was what...a couple days?), or just a combination of both. I just wish that it was this good since the beginning as it was very worrying in the first episode. The choices we made also comes to show their purpose here. Two choices are relating to Mikey and if you made the right choice, tabletop comes back! If you didn’t, you miss out on it which is really a shame to people that didn’t make the correct choice to make it happen. Who can say no to playing tabletop with Mikey? There is also a very very small choice that didn’t really seem important compared to how much it helps in this episode. Remember the part where you can choose to kiss Rachel? If you instead took her bracelet (which does open up a plot hole actually) it will make it easier to get a particular outcome with Sera. In the long run the same effect would have happened anyway. We also have choices we did towards Victoria and Samantha making an appearance, with the latter showing up if you get particularly curious. However, Before the Storm does do well at what it ultimately set out to do. For anyone that had any interest (or more like, liked her or was neutral towards her) in knowing Chloe more got to know what happened when Max was away. As well as showing us why Rachel was a big deal and why Chloe was so hung up on her. Rachel ultimately got Chloe to start moving on from her father’s death (with a...let’s just say a surprising scene) in result to knowing her family as well as Rachel actually being there for her. I would be as devastating as Chloe if the person I spilled it all to and helped me get past it suddenly disappeared. Though it is a little weird this whole thing happened over a couple days and they became incredibly close so quickly. Episode 1 and 2 was great, but damn they messed up 3. Suddently all of the character become awkard with each other, conveyed in the form of pauses in every other line. Gone has witty and seamingless dialogue we knew and loved in LiS and LiS:BtS Ep 1 and 2, and suddently it felt more like the characters have severe social anxiety disorders who can't even pull off a simple line properly. It's.. annoying.. as hell. 1 focused on Chloe's stage of mind and the begining of her relationship with Rachel. In 2 we saw their relationship flourish beautifully, turning into something more (at least 75% other players agreed with me on this one :p) and some foreshadowing and clues building up to 3. In 3 you suddently became a detective trying to solve the whole thing. The bit where
Eliot trying to convince Chloe that Rachel is bad
is pointless to me as we already know they are the best of friends in LiS.

To be fair, I liked Before the Storm more than the main Life is Strange game. As i project better with Chloe. I greatly enjoyed playing her. I liked playing dungeons and dragons in the game, i was largely surprised you could play more than just one move. Was a really nice touch. I also surprisingly really enjoyed Rachels character. I felt she was something that isn't commonly voyeured in life, the positive and negative "back end" to someone famous.

The last episode of the game closes all the questions that arose while playing the first game. And despite the fact that the first game of the series itself was strong, this episode was no worse than anything that came before it. Great ending, touching scene after the credits, bringing back the memories and emotions of completing the game.

The conclusion to Life is Strange: Before the Storm, its third episode begins immediately after the cliffhanger of the previous episode, a revelation that affects Rachel deeply. Seeing how Chloe and Rachel's relationship developed after this, and given the final choices during this episode, it's certainly a great conclusion to the game. Of course, I recommend it.

Found this review on reddit and couldnt agree more or say it better :
Anyone else here feel rather disappointed and empty after the last episode? The ending montage was cool and all, but most of the ending was non-interactive (just sit and watch, and occasionally make a choice, but no movement or exploration), and there was pretty much only one meaningful choice, and that was the very end's choice. Rachel being out of the second half of the episode also felt like an odd design choice, considering she is the secondary main character. I mean, the whole story of the game revolves around Rachel and Chloe’s relationship and Rachel’s mom issues, but both of these felt extremely weak, especially since Rachel was not present for the latter half of the episode (which was the weakest part of this episode IMO) stagnated development of their relationship, and the whole Rachel’s mom issue is Rachel's plotline as well, so the fact she wasn’t present for the resolution was a really questionable design choice and story direction. Moreover, why did Rachel and Chloe suddenly decide to stay in Arcadia Bay? It was never explained in this episode at all, the initial reasoning behind it for the past few episodes was because they wanted to solve her mom issue, but now that it was resolved, why did they still stay? They built up that plotline of both of them wanting to escape in E1 and 2, so why did they suddenly throw it away? And Chloe's signature bullet necklace just appeared out of nowhere, which is a bit disappointing as I was expecting some backstory to how she got it and why she wears it everywhere she goes. Then there's Sera, who had her entire story laid out, which was albeit disappointing, I expected for us to have to do some hunting for information, instead of 95% of her story being laid out, with the exception of the plot twist near the end. And last but not least, barely any Amberprice moments for the last episode? As I said, the ending montage was nice and all, especially if you picked the friend route, but I expected some Amberprice moments if you went down that route based on your choices from the previous episodes as it really seemed they were building towards it, but there wasn't even a kiss in the finale, and the ending and the montage seems to be the same regardless if you go Amberprice or friendship route. Now, I'm not saying that it's a bad episode by any means, but it was just really disappointing, and the duration of the episode was incredibly short compared to the other episodes, which didn't help. Also, the segment between Frank, Damon, Sera and Chloe was weird, especially the transition, I initially thought it was a dream or something. The ending just felt off and weird, although the bit where the phone rung in the Dark Room was cool, and I loved the montage. I'm not sure, I personally felt something was missing from the ending, like there was no proper closure, I guess I expected more from the story based on the build up since episode 1, especially with Chloe and Rachel's relationship/friendship. -Thanks to Carnage555 from reddit -I agree with the review provided by Carnage555> Its true, stuff is missing, and incomplete, but overall I was thinking for a solid hour after playing the game about the meaning of being honest. Becasue this episode is all about truth or lie. Made me think a lot, I did love the game and the episode even with some impections
The first two episodes were great, it was interesting to see the relationship between Chloe and Rachel build up, and it was good to feel that my decions matter in that. The Tempest part is one my favourite Life is Strange scenes. After that I was really looking forward to the 3rd Episode, but it was a HUGE disappointment to me. I was expecting to be crying at the end of it, or just feel something at least...but this was not the case this time.
The story felt out of place. We built up our relationship with Rachel on the first 2 episodes, only to turn this whole episode to an investigation, with little meaningful interaction between the two characters. I felt like I don't have any influence on what happens next, so I did not feel connected to the characters that much. I think this whole Rose is not your real mother thing was relly weird an took the story in the wrong direction. I play LiS for the feels, but I could not find them here.
