Spitfire: Epsom Campaign DLC

Just finished the Campaign and it's pretty good. The missions don't use triggers so a set battle wages below you and as the Flight Lead, you decide when, where and who to attack. This is both a positive and a negative - the positive is that it's a sandbox really and can be quite chilled out if you want to just go for a fly - you don't suddenly look round to see bandits in your 6 o'clock who weren't there two seconds ago. However, as others have commented, it does lead to some performance issues from the number of units involved on the map - I got quite a slowdown on a couple of the later missions with a 4090 (playing in VR) - however, the devs have recognised this and you can choose before you take off to select 'F10 - Other' from the radio menu to reduce the number of assets to increase performance. The missions themselves are relatively similar - most are cold start CAP / Armed Recce to different locations around Caen. There are a couple of scramble (hot) starts, a couple where you have to dive-bomb pre-determined targets. There is something very cool seeing the artillery shells exploding 6000ft below you in the French countryside during the land battle, as you try to navigate through the black clouds of explosive flak shells from the 88s hidden in the Bocage. The literature included is very detailed, following events as they took place at the time and I found myself really engrossed in learning the rivers, railway lines, towns and other visual reference points to attempt to navigate properly and I used the campaign as a great way to get involved in understanding the Battle of Caen and the surrounding French geography. History bored me to death at school, so this is a much better way of learning it!
