I'll be honest, I wasn't sure about purchasing this add on. Then it was on offer so I thought I'd give it a go.
It's a fantastic route, the work that's gone into the line, is superb. You can run all engines on here with it being OHL (Over Head Line) ie Electric.
Plenty of station's so if you have any Class101dmu's they fit in the scenery. Free roam is good as well, as there are lot of sidings and branch of lines to use...
Only downside at this point some of the Scenario's are not working propely, upto DTG to sort that out time will tell.
Fantastic in QD with any train...

First of all. This is not the best route out there. It's old and noticeable, also the places with lots of overhead powerlines will take it's tool in fps.
And that's it. Everything eles is good.
Scenery is good.
Trains are good.
Sound's good.
Lots of line and challenging scenarios.
Advice: Read the manual!

Wonderful route over the Pennines. I bought this in a sale with addition locos as a bundle for sub £10. For the price it's worth it, even though AI people walked chest high in the platforms at some stations and there was some poor editing of the cat wire.
The running into AI trains.. well, that's the game. You have to stop for them. Having said that, I smashed into one but never saw a red light. I will run the game again and see where I went wrong.. well, it was pitch dark - that's my story :P
I had to clone the route to keep my own update and adjusted one scenario. AI train way too early for me to see it and train too long. The people no longer longer walk in the platform at Crowden and another.
The cat wire looked like it was thrown up and rods just hung in the air. Electric engine has 2 separate bogeys and a body, who thought this was acceptable to separate them must need another job.
Apart from these errors, it has one turntable, a few greenhouse gas producing steam engines, plenty of track, lots of stations and zillions of sidings.
Ye olde route could keep me busy for months.

Still one of the best routes available. In desperate need of an upgrade by this point - eg Quick Drive does not spawn AI, it is a bleak run through Manchester with empty sidings and marshalling yards - but it is still a fun, diverse and challenging route with a very specific charm to it that hasn't waned.

Great route, a good network with plenty of options, reasonable cross section of stock and very stable in editor. The age of this addon means the framerates are good owing to the low sceanery density, it will pay to put in the effort and add some of your own trackside detailing to bring it to life, WLOS assets are a very good match for this ... the only downside is with the demise of IHH its impossible to stock the route prototypically however the stock included in the new Weardale & Teesdale Network makes a good filler, and othe ex IHH stock is now being re-released by RSC such as the class 20 so things are looking up for this route ... only the really important 506 is conspiciously missing.
Well worth the money if you are into early BR routes.
Train Simulator DLC: The Woodhead Route
Coming from the area where this route is set, I can say that they have got the feeling and look of it spot on. I've used on it so many times now on Train Simulator that when I visit the place in real life now...well...the add-on seems more real to me. This is partly because I remember what the route used to look like back in the late 1970s and early eighties, and class 76's used take coal up to Manchester on it.
It does lack attention to detail however. For example, the station building at Deepcar should be stone, not brick; and the tunnels at Thurgoland, again, are stone and not brick. In places, the cuttings are too shallow. Apart from this, it's a wonderfully nostalgic experience.
If you don't know the area, then let me say that it is one of the most beautiful landscapes in England, and one of the best routes you can get for TS.

I really have come to love this route. I love it's busy sidings in industrial areas contrasting with long climbs up winding mainlines with only mountains and fields to keep you company. Also the mix of bridges and tunnels gives lots of lovely feelings of travel. Each section of the line feels very distinct, which I really like. The line itself is challenging with steep grades, but I really think this challenge forced me to learn how to get the most out of the steam locomotives I like to run on it. And while Woodhead has a reputation for steep long gradients, it's nowhere near as challenging as Clear Creek.
Due to all of the stations and goods yards dotting the route there's lots of options for freight and passenger runs. And even mixed operations if you wish. Also with steam loco facilities and overhead lines, steam, electric and diesel locos can all run the route well.
I think the class 76 is super cute and delightfully quirky to drive. The steam locos that come with it (black 5 and 8f) are all ten years old and simplistic compared to more recent advanced offerings, but still fun to drive. And it comes with a gronk! Which while I will forever dislike such a devious diesel, is used in a lot of scenarios so is good to have.
I know pretty much all the original scenarios that it came with are broken due to scripting issues, but the ones in other packs such as the class 77, B1, O4, J94, all work great and are lots of fun. :)
This route is quickly becoming a favorite of mine just because of how well it gets the key things right. It may not be as pretty as a more recent route, but it has a lot of charm and character and I really think that counts for something more in my book.

This is a fantastic route which contains all a versatile route should offer. You find plenty of stations for passenger services, as well as small/medium/huge shunting areas, industrial zones for freight/Goods and shunting activities - all embedded in a nice landscape with 2-4 tracks going uphill and downhill with lots of curves.
It's based between Manchester and Sheffield (not to forget Wath) in the era where steam/diesel/electric-locos were all operating in parallel.
The route provides a solid and versatile amount of rolling stock, so pure fun to drive. Visually it's not state-of-the-art- however this does not concern me as it feeds to the atmosphere and spirit of the route and era ....and if you have an 'average' PC you still have solid framerates.
So, if you like this era around 50s/60s this route is a 'must have' in my view....

I never heard of this route, and for the longest time i put it off, but a sale changed my mind so i figured why not. I'm glad i bought it as it is by far the most interesting route in my collection. The lines history is unique, and is a bit of a head scratcher as to why it closed. But now its recreated in a classic setting depicting how operations on the Woodhead Route was in a transitional period for BR. The Class 76s are very fun to drive, and having to drive steam on the steep routes is very difficult, so it will test you. If youve been holding off on this, dont. Get it is really fun!

Now this... is a fantastic route. I'd never taken much note of this infamous line before. But ever since I bought this DLC, I've been having fun all the way, both driving & looking into the history of the real route. For a start, the scenery is amazing - from the busy industrial yards around Sheffield, Manchester & Wath, to the amazing views of the Pennines & the Woodhead tunnels. It's a truly fantastic journey, especially with the loco's & rolling stock.
For a start, you get the popular Class 76 Electric's in BR Black. I actually had trouble driving these to start with, because I didn't realise you had to 'Shift Traction Modes' in the cab once you were underway & have both pantographs up - no matter where you leave from, you'll face an uphill climb to start, followed by a downhill run where you MUST apply the brakes. Trust me... after Woodhead Tunnel's on the way to Manchester, there are a lot of curves. And the Wath Line need a lot of expertise in each direction, driving both steam or electric... especially when you're hauling coal. Unfitted 21-ton hoppers? Not recommended for drivers-in-training.
Speaking of engines, you get the former-LMS 8F's & Class 08 Shunting Diesels. Now, I would like to have seen more scenarios with both of these engines (the 08's only driveable in a few 'Free Roams', and the 8F only has 1 'Standard' Scenario. But there's also one with a BR Green Class 37 & you'll see a few 'Black Fives' roaming around the route too. I suggest, if need-be, you get this route with the Robinson 04 or Thomson B1 in one of Steam's Twin Packs.
Even so, I still enjoy this route. It's a challenge to drive on, but a great journey all the same. And for the price, you can't argue with what you get - if Electrics, Heavy Goods or just trains in general are you're thing, I really recommend the Woodhead Line.
