This game is not nearly as good as the first one. The first game sets high expectations with interesting characters and an intense storyline. This entire game feels like an abandonment of anything truly interesting. You help a girl you just met over the series of a few days reconnect with something in her past. The characters are forgettable and there's no real emotion behind the forced social interactions. The voice acting is mediocre at best and the dialogue is god awful at times. The ending resolved nothing, (clearly) as the company who made this game wants you to go out and purchase this final episode seperately through a "Deluxe Edition Upgrade". No different than triple A titles, this game was made off the success of the first and is an attempt to get fans to shell out more cash just because of the name "Life is Strange".

To be fair, I liked Before the Storm more than the main Life is Strange game. As i project better with Chloe. I greatly enjoyed playing her. I liked playing dungeons and dragons in the game, i was largely surprised you could play more than just one move. Was a really nice touch. I also surprisingly really enjoyed Rachels character. I felt she was something that isn't commonly voyeured in life, the positive and negative "back end" to someone famous.

This episode felt very long, not a bad thing though, its just a slow episode, as it is trying to set up for the next episodes. It was good though. __________________ Follow my Curator for more!

A great episode that reveals the main characters as individuals even better. The same atmosphere, the same dialogues and something nice that awaits us at the end - all this makes this part really special and lively.

Absolutely adored this episode – Deck Nine have done a great job with the series. This episode seemed to be quite a bit longer than the first but keeps the story engaging and it genuinely feels like your choices have an impact on the game world. I loved the character development and the backtalk mechanic is more frequently used this time around to a really good effect. There’s loads more I could gush over but honestly – I just wanted to recommend this game – Do yourself a favour and buy it.

This is hella unfair With the first episode being overall rocky, we come in almost right after the events. The fire that started at the end of the previous episode is still raging, as it is desperately trying to be controlled before it reaches the town. The smoke hanging in the air as a reminder. Immediately, Chloe has to deal with the consequences that she and Rachel ran off to do. As we know Chloe eventually gets expelled, this episode deals with what came after. Taking part of the discussion with the principal, though no matter how you played it, it will obviously end up the same outcome. But how will Chloe handle this, especially with Rachel being involved. And with Deck Nine understanding Chloe’s character better than the previous episode, it’s also time to get more personal with her inner conflicts. Chloe can run away but should she when she still has family living in Arcadia Bay. Is Rachel enough to forget everything? It quickly becomes apparent that this is the episode that is the calm before the storm. With Chloe expelled, and well not exactly going home because of David, we are left with spending time with Chloe and the side quests. This time is used to bring the truck we see Chloe driving in Life is Strange and the early relationship between her and Frank. It gets slow during these parts, as you have to collect items or having to do an errand. It does pick up towards the end of these sections though so these scenes do not end in disappointment. Though if it lead to Chloe and Rachel development, and seeing baby Pompidou, it’s worth it. We do get some minor character development, which is handled better than the slow parts of this episode. The most notable being Nathan Prescott. He is still a jerk, but it does seem more restrained, as we saw in the previous episode. Sure, he says you were bullying him even though you probably helped him instead, but we actually get to see Nathan’s dad. Where we only previously knew how they interacted through emails, we get to see how they are in person. And seeing this made me sympathize with Nathan more as we see that his dad only cares about how the family looks. Nathan is taking part in the play, but was it really his decision to or did his dad force him to? As we know that Mr. Prescott could probably just donate more money to ensure a role for his son. Other than Nathan, we get more development on Steph and Mikey, the friends Chloe play D&D with, as well as Frank. The strongest parts of this episode is the parts where they explore the relationship between Rachel and Chloe. With everyone else on the backburner, this had to shine and it did. We get to see them becoming even closer in this episode as they rant about their problems. We see them getting closer and closer, with an absolutely great scene that is by far the best scene in the entire episode (you will know when you get there). Despite the flaws both of them have, they stick together. The writing and the soundtrack harmonizing to make these scenes stronger. It makes sense that they got so close in such a short time and the impact that we all know is going to happen is realistically devastating. I do wish that there were some prevalence in how the character’s choices affected the story. I do get that some events have to happen, such as Chloe being expelled, but there could have been interesting scenes. As we are told that Rachel landed the leading role in a play, with Victoria being the understudy, it would be interesting to see Victoria acting on stage. Though there are interesting small choices that you make that do have consequences. Such as if you graffiti Frank’s van in episode one. It also seems like the backdrop to the play depends on a collection of choices that you made in episode one. The one thing that I was worried about, and I can see others worrying about, was the Backtalk feature. With the previous episode, it is really edgy Chloe intimidating her opponents by yelling. With Chloe getting away with things that she honestly shouldn’t have in the first episode. I’m happy to say that this was improved on, with Chloe edging away from yelling. There were honestly clever ways that Chloe used this to get her way without yelling. And if she did, it made sense that it would work. There were some questionable framing that happened in this game, though it is more prevalent in the beginning of the chapter. With the camera doing close ups of Rachel’s parents looking like they were going to say something, but they didn’t. It was weird, as the same thing could have easily been accomplished by showing them while the lines that they were reacting to were still being spoken. There also was this problem with the voice lines cutting too early. Honestly, the biggest crime of all is not having the ability to be in an endless petting loop with baby Pompidou.
Verdict
Episode two of Before the Storm is the calm before the storm. While this episode is not as good as the first episode, there are a lot of good moments. Some aspects that did not look good, just as the Backtalk feature, did get improved on, but there are some that didn’t. Before the Storm has proven that the developers did not let the fact that Chloe already told us what happened to let them down. The next, and last, episode is definitely going to be a wild ride. Especially with the cliffhanger this episode left us on. Definitely an improvement! Deck Nine continues to impress. Episode 2 starts out slow and gets exponentially better until it hits you right in the feels. Character development is great.I love how Chloe and Rachel's relationship is developed, you can truly get a grasp of what they're going through. Daughter kills it again with the amazing soundtrack. Nice use of their other tracks as well as other artists. Overall, this season is going great. Hella recommended.
One of the best episode of whole LIS series
(This review contains spoilers) Oh God where to start from, and how to start it!! When the episode came out on 19th, it was night time and I came home late hella drunk. So I was more vulnerable to emotions but I had to try playing it. The principal's office scene was too much for me to take because how Wells was trying so hard to put every blame on Chloe by any means. I have seen this in real life, students being judged by their family background and financial power and it effected me alot. The chemistry between Chloe and Rachel was so strong <3 They kept trying to take the heat and blame for eachother. Then the David's scene just torn me apart more. too much emotions and feelings. I decided to play the game next day when I would be sober. I thought okay I overcome all the emotional parts and I will be good. But little did I know what a huge magical emotional moments were waiting for me. The cinematography was so amazing! The music soundtracks as always on topnotch! Decknine did such an amazing job along with Daughter, Voice actors, directors, and all the LIS team, I used to be jealous at Rachel and kind of annoyed at Chloe for always mentioning Rachel in the original LIS. Never really shipped Amberprice! But D9 changed it. Not only changed it but it made me hella AMBERSHIP fan. If you try to put yourself in Chloe's shoe and try to understand what Chloe feels and play the game that way, you will really feel her pain and her consistant struggle in love/crush for Rachel. I am starting to love younger Chloe's voice more and more. Rhianna is amazing. Her voice acting has that innocence, cuteness, awkwardness mixed well with teen angst. which fits younger Chloe so much. I like how her voice gets raspy often time <3 Amberprice has such a chemistry and huge strong understanding for eachother. They talk through eyes. D9 deserves hella credit for it. Specially the Tempest scene was masterpiece <3 The improvisation was so unpredictable. Along with the play scene, the neighbourhood scene where Rachel and Chloe shares their first Kiss, was so magical. Chloe was soooo loving it and she had no way to express it but saying "Holy Shit". And Rachel just says "Right?" That shows how they understand eachother <3 Stupid kids trying to runaway without knowing how hard it is but they are only 16 and at that age people are like that way. They are so cute together. There are some flaws in the game like any other game/movies. I never mind those but it really bothered me that the Boys' dorm is shown the same dorm which was girl's dorm in original LIS. Doesn't matter, the episode has too many beautiful moments, great storyline, hearttouching soundtracks, perffect cinematography, so many freaking funny moments which weigh the final product into one of the best game ever. This game hits me right in the heart. LIS is very special to me and so is to every LIS community people <3 SquareEnix thank you for the masterpiece. The episode was
one of my most favourite episode
in whole LIS series. My rating for the game? 100/10

Rachel was just the missing girl we found in LiS, but this game shows us why she meant so much to Chloe. Love it
