I had mixed feelings about this route at first, but it's really grown on me! The way the developers set up the scenarios is unique. You really feel like you're working on an actual railroad, even down to receiving track warrants. You will see the entire railroad while performing the five part scenario (plus one more) that is included with the route and there is plenty of switching. There are many details that really bring this route to life. The SD40-2W included even has working marker lights, which you can change red, white, or blue. That was a pleasant surprise! The only negative thing I have to say about this route is that it's very dark. The inside of the cab is dark and lighting overall just seems a little off. You can see what I mean just by looking at some of the screenshots. Overall, this is a very neat route and in my opinion it is certainly worth the price, especially when it is on sale!

The route itself is really quite nice. Very scenic, but there are some stiff grades and the whole route is pretty low speed. Fairly well detailed, mostly little knitpicks here and there that ain't right.
The rolling stock........ It's gross. That awful tank car we have seen for years is drug out of its grave and "included" here once again. There is no new rolling stock here. The box cars are probably the best looking of the entire lot, including the locomotive! The SD40 uses default Kuju sounds that are long beyond awful. Physics ain't real. Texturing is pitiful in the cab. Very little function. If you're looking at this DLC, you're buying it for the route. Buy it on sale, though full price is not TERRIBLE. Not great, not bad. This is a pack that really should get a "meh" classification.

It's really nice to finally have a CN DLC for Train Simulator. I'm still in the early stages of exploring the route but so far I like what I see: challenging grades, switching opportunities, and a nice change of pace from busy mainline hauling. The SD40-2W has been improved over the previous version.

Milepost Simulations did make some great routes, but this isn't their best one. Perhaps my expectations were too high. As other reviewers already said; the route is rather boring. It's a single track railway, 20mph speed limit pretty much all the way, with either forests or plains. Now I'm quite convince that's how the real area looks like, but it's just not a very entertaining scenery. The locomotive has pretty bad vision on the railway, so you're only seeing half of the scenery. And since it's a single line track, there's no AI traffic either.

I have mixed feelings about this route. First of all: Finally a canadian route which lies east of the Rockies - that's a big plus!
The Scenery:
For someone who is looking for a senic route, it might be a bit boring, as the scenery is very repetetive, with some forest areas and otherwise only vast plains. But this is where the route shines: If you've ever been to Alberta, you know how vast the landscape is. Wide open plains, a bit of woodland here and there. This route really captures the feeling. The scenery around the yards and around Peace river is also done very nicely. In between, you won't find much - as in reality.
The Rolling Stock:
The rolling stock is o.k. at most, the sounds are o.k. as well but nothing out of the ordinary. The SD-40W could have used a face flift, more detailed textures in the cab and so on. Sounds of the locomotive are also very weak, especially the standart SD40-horn. BIG TIP: Go to searchlight simulations website and download the freeware "CanadianK3LR2 - CANADIAN TUNED" horn. BIG Improvement
Scenarios:
So far I've played three of the scenarios - they are ok. Some slow and long drives with a little bit of switching here and there. The instructions are not always 100% clear, this might get frustrating because I achieved all the goals in the second scenario, however at the end I failed it due to incomplete task?!
The driving on the route is sometimes challenging as you face some steep grades either uphill or downhill, downhill the more challenging part.
Verdict:
All in all this route leaves me with mixed feelings. I somehow had hoped for more, yet I am not unsatisfied with what I got. The sounds are a major downturn, but can be fixed. Scenery wise I'm kind of happy with the depiction of Alberta, even though the landscape at times can be dull. So if you're a fan of freight hauling, north american train simming and want something different compared to the big US lines available for train sim: go for it!

Plain & Simple... A great route for $24.99. Worth every cent ! If you are looking for high speed RR'ing, this isn't for you. It keeps you on your toes using the dynamics on those 1.5% to 2.4% grades. A nice selection on rolling stock to go along with the good graphics. It should give nice FPS on a mid-range PC. It's a route that is you like RR'ing "North of the Border", you will get hours of enjoyment like I am having now ! I rate it an: A-

For a start, having done scenario #1, I found the scenery to be a little bit boring, trees, trees, trees, all the way from Judah to Peace River, even when you took a bend, left or right, it looked the same as the previous one.
But the scenery around Peace River, with its various Bridges and the Station and other buildings, the route comes to life.
The climb North from Peace River starts off very interesting, then a couple of miles on towards Roma, there are about another 6 miles of the Trees, trees, etc.
The 6 miles seems to take for ages due to the slow speed of 20mph.
Scenario #2 from Roma to the Grimshaw Grain sidings, was more interesting, both scenery wise and because of the shunting.
Scenario #3 from Grimshaw to Peace River, I found more interesting on the descent than I had found on the ascent, which for me was due to the concentration on the amount of Dynamic brake to use for the slightly varying grade.
Another aspect of the monotony of trees on the ascent to Roma, I have put down to there being no change in the distant scenery, which is of course due to the fact the area is just a large flat plain {well not actualy flat, but on a rise}.
I am looking forward to scenario #4, as it appears to be running through a changing landscape, which should look more interesting.
I thought a 40 mile route was a bit short, but with the slow running speeds, I am pleased it is not a lot longer.
The shortness of the route is reflected "IMO" with the lower cost of the route compared to other routes.
I will give a tentative score of 70% which may rise after doing the scenario from Peace River township and on up the Peace Valley.
