I didn't expect much from the campaign, the premise was a little hokey, but I needed something for my Sabre. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm about halfway through. The missions are varied and a bit challenging, but not too much. The triggers work well, and I have not had to play missions through the editor like some other campaigns because some missions are broken. The briefings are good and detailed, the kneeboard has maps and navigation cards and the comms work to let you know what you have to do. I recommend this campaign.

This is a really fun campaign. I believe Apache600 has done a fantastic job. I'm just curious if anybody else has ran into a roadblock on Mission 15: Final Nail with the F-86 Sabre? It appears I'm getting radio confirmation that the dictators IL-76 and escort fighters have already departed the Soganlug runway before I even get my engine fired up at Beslan. Then once I arrive at the final reservoir that I'm suppose to orbit, there's not a soul in site. I think there's a trigger broken in the mission itself. I just upgraded to the resent Beta version of DCS. Is there something I'm missing here?

VR only user here with actual civilian aircraft hours logged and passenger hours in numerous military air platforms. This will focus mostly on the F-86 in VR experience. I have not flown the Mig-15 yet. I purchased the F-86 Saber, the Mig-15 and this campaign during the half off sale. The F-86 model is absolutely beautiful! Thus far I more than happy with it.
I've spent most of my flight time in the P-51D and recently started with the F-86. The transition was really nice as the F-86 is a first generation jet fighter so there are still some similarities with the P51-D - to my pleasant surprise.
With the F-86 you are NOT overwhelmed with systems and computer management. You (not the computer) very much still FLY THE AIRCRAFT. The gun/bomb sight is similar to the P-51D but included a computer controlled bomb release feature which is phenomenal after having learned how to aim and drop bombs manually which was not easy in the P51. Learning this does take some doing. Plan on a few hours to get the feel/hang of it. Then its quite satisfying to hit a moving naval target, switch the camera to flyby and watch the F-86 ascend into the clouds.
The F-86 is a joy to start from cold and dark. It is simple but makes sense and gives you a basic understanding of jet propulsion. It's worth taking the time to learn this, its probably the most simple start up procedure in all of DCS I've come across. This will undoubtedly be an important concept as I later progress to newer jet fighters.
There are a couple of important items to mention here though:
- Take your time setting up your controls. I cannot stress this enough. Some important controls you'll want on your Hotas settings (mine are on the throttle control (Warthog) include:
1. Speedbrake
2. Electrical bombsite gyro cage
3. Throttle set to start and idle (2 different controls) if you like to start cold and dark.
As far as the campaign is concerned I have only completed the first mission - -- but it was VERY WELL DONE. It was an interesting little story without a ton of stuff. You are basically just relocating the aircraft to another base. During the rout an ally in more modern jet will come check you out and fly in formation for a few minutes. What a great touch. If you are new to the F-86 DO NOT start the campaign and expect it to teach you how to fly. Do go over the training missions. They are quite good except in VR the text does not scroll so you have to listen to the instruction without always being able to read along.
CONS:
The one issue I have here may only be in VR. When raising the landing gear after take off the VR "floor" moves/jumps. If you are not expecting it, it could give a wee bout of nausea. It's not a deal breaker and I have the camera reset key mapped to the red button on the warthog throttle, but I sometimes have to slump up or down in the seat to get it right. This really does need to be fixed and I wouldn't imagine it would be too difficult to figure out.
The second issue, and I'm not sure it its an actually issue because I'm not a real F-86 pilot is that it seems to be awfully forgiving when it comes to landing. Again back to the P-51, it was pretty tough and the F-86 is landing at a higher speed. There are a couple of landing I stuck where my decent rate was too fast and the tires were not perfectly aligned with the runway (crabbed slightly). I felt that I should have at least bounced. I actually do prefer the sim to be completely unforgiving to mistakes. This felt too easy. The turn rate also seems ridiculously good for a first gen fighter but I would have to do actual research to if there is an issue with the flight model or not. There is also hardly any rudder input required - this might just be because I'm used to the insane torque of the P-51D.
Other than that. The F-86 to my surprise may very well end up being my favorite platform for a while. I highly recommend it- especially after taking the time to learn a prop plane. If you are new to DCS do yourself a favor and learn how to fly a prop plane either here, in X-plane 11 (preferably - a Cessna will do before taking on a P51) or the new MS flight sim when it comes out. The reward is well worth the time. If you made it - thanks for reading.

My second campaign so far in DCS. I completed it with MiG-15, after doing all of the training missions, plus the instant action quick missions that I had available for each map that I have. It is a great supplement for training on MiG-15.
All in all, it is very nicely organized, briefings, maps, navigation plan, is all very nicely described and prepares you for a mission. I even think I could have probably completed it without having aircraft label’s on like I do (yeah, I know). My bombing skills suck, by the way (in MiG-15 it’s purely manual work, with almost no sight being involved), and I still managed ti successfully finish almost every mission (thanks to 37mm cannon). If you’re really having trouble with any particular mission, there is an option to cheat-skip it at the very beginning of it (F10), me being a noob, I only HAD to do it once after trying one particular mission several times over.
It is NOT realistic campaign. Fictional country fighting another fictional country, with multiple generations of aircraft mixed up. I expected to have more F-86 engagements, and unfortunately there are barely any missions with it.
Overall it is definitely recommended, I just wish the story line would be more believable.

I you're like me, looking for an f-86 vs mig-15 campaign in a fictional, backwards part of the world, than this is not it.
However, I was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't have asked for a better way to learn this plane (sabre in my case, but I believe it's the same for mig).
This campaign will take you through every aspect of this fighter through the series of story driven narrated missions. Each mission felt unique, exciting and challenging (but not too challenging, except maybe one! ;) ). Fortunately, every mission can be skipped if needed.
The only negative I could say about this campaign is that voice acting is occasionally cringey and amateurish, but even that I somehow found charming...

Only a few missions in so far, but having fun. I got the Sabre due to not having been into flight sims in years and this campaign to go with it, lots of fun, well put together, sensible missions. Bought something simple. So glad I did. Also turned on random hardware failures, wish I hadn’t. I completed my mission but had to land without a landing gear and speed brakes on. Turn that feature off if your just getting into the game, unless you’re experienced in your piloting skills.

With the new update to DCS, a major bug that stopped the campaign half way has been fixed. Speaking now that I've completed it I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this campaign which is really well made. Big thumbs up to Apache 600 for creating this.

If you have an interest in single player DCS and own either the MiG-15 or the F-86 (both great modules) pick this up.
I found that this campaign is the perfect blend of cheesy/realistic.. serious/humorous.. and challenging yet achievable.
I barely knew how to fly the MiG-15 before I flew the campaign and now I feel that I am a fairly proficient MiG-15 pilot afterwards. Overall worth the money at full price and especially if on sale and seeking a single player experience.

Very well thought out and executed campaign! There is even an option to autocomplete a mission should it be stuck due to bugs or updates, i wish more campaigns had this! If you have the planes already this is a definitive buy!
edit: just finished the campaign for the mig-15 as well and i have to say it is fantastic. one of the best campaigns for dcs without question.
