Train Simulator: CPRR 4-4-0 No. 60 ‘Jupiter’ Steam Loco Add-On DLC

It was on May 10, 1869 at Promontory, Utah that the “Golden Spike” ceremony made America one land, linked by rail from ocean to ocean. Facing each other on that historic day were two locomotives, Union Pacific 4-4-0 No. 119 and Central Pacific No. 60, the “Jupiter.

Smokebox knocked another out of the park with this locomotive. While a relatively simple locomotive, compared to his previous offerings, he keeps pushing the realistic physics to their boundaries. Don't let the simplicity of running this engine fool you, as everything in the cabin works exactly as it should. You need to think before you brake, as this train doesn't have standard train brakes (rather, a series of whistles causes your brakeman to go about his business). Firing the train is simple, intuitive, and doesn't get in the way of keeping the simulation realistic (simply move a piece of wood to the desired rate you want the fire stoked at). The sounds are excellent, the graphics out of the world with every bit and bob modeled, and she's got more than enough to keep you satisfied and busy. Simply put, this simulation falls in line with the rest of Smokebox's work. Get it, and don't wait!

I would be willing to argue that this is one of the best locomotives in the game. even when the train is in ai mode the ai trains still sound their whistles when stopping, and starting. which is somthing no other locomotive in this game does !

I want to say thank you very much to a comrade Smokebox. I got this July 9th, and I was such a noob, I'd started playing again since I hadn't been on since 2015, and decided to finally get a mod. This train, I'll just say has a special place in my heart and is my version of mans best friend. At first, I was quite dumb and was like "what???" "Why is it making so many metallic noises! Its wheels are slipping!" I was a little dissapointed. I went online and found out how to view the manual, I found some of the basic controls. I started to get the hang of it, some things were still hard as heck. But now I look back, and realise how far I've reached since July with this train. It was a fantastic birthday gift and I never got to say thank you and how much I appreciate this train. I've come to be a decent driver of this train now, and it'll always be my favourite. This train means alot, and is great for anyone who will go through anything to learn how to master such a wonderful machine. The stephenson valvetrain is animated and everything, just showing how much work was put into this. I don't know what else to say other than again; Thank you so much Smokebox!

I'm reccomending this because it has more pros then cons, here are the pros: The detail's are great it's very fun to drive The Cons: Evreything need's to be done manually, the only good reason to use the F4 mode is to check your coal/fire mass & your speed. So, depending on what your preferance is, weather you like a challenge or not, buy or don't buy this pack, I reccomend it because I love it and don't see any problems with it. also quick peice of advice, if you want it to go faster then 20 mph, just put another engine behind it (I recommend a gwr hall class) I do this from time to time, just like the U.S. day out with thomas events with the dummy locos.

Merci d'avance. In english : The locomotive is fine but there are some defects: - The loco slows down as I turn on the throttle and regulator and set the necessary settings. - When I open the water supply valve from tender to loco, the locomotive reservoir does not fill with tender reserves. That’s my comment, and I’m asking you to help me solve these problems. Thank you in advance.

Quite simply one of the best locomotive addons ever made for train sim 2017.. the sounds and model are excellent and it provides an interesting drive as well. as others have said to operate this locomotive it is essential that you read the manual before you begin

This is one of the greatest DLC locomotives you can get for this game. You will need to learn how to operate it, as it is quite different, but it is well worth it. This immerses you in 1800's american railroading, everything from rolling stock to track-side fixtures are spot on and the train has a lot of different view modes. We have needed at old Steam US route for some time and this is a great start. Outstanding simply one of the best!

I have just had a play and was going to say there was something wrong with the brakes. But I decided to then read the manual and found there is an explanation, on how to get the brakes "On" and "Off" using Whistle Signals. I am picking driving this loco and its rolling stock is going to take some getting used to.

I have been waiting for this DLC since it was annouced over a year ago, and it does not disapoint. Its creator Smokebox (creator of the fef-3 and at&n consolidation) has yet again put out one of the most realistic locomotives in all of simulation history. As this engine was built in the 1800's it has no air or steam brakes, instead you must rely on your brakeman (activated via whistle), and using the reverser and throttle to rever the dirrection of the wheels. This engines water is injected by a pump on the pistons, so you have to move to fiill them, and all the sounds are properly record from York 17, a replica of this locomotives design. This pack also includes passenger rolling stock, and 1800's assets for route building.

This is probably the best engine I've driven in any sim, straight from one of my favorite creators. Mike was wonderfully receptive during production, and always explained himself if he turned down advice. Now that it's out, you can tell that his skill, as well as his attitude, has made all the difference. HISTORY: With anything from the 1860s, it's impossible to tell how anything would have been painted. So I'll focus on what I can say with conviction: 1.) Mike Rennie's rendition of Russia Iron is absolutely perfect. THANK YOU SIR, that's a gold standard that everyone who makes 19th century content in Train Sim is going to have to live up to. 2.) Jupiter's livery is practically spot-on. Some people would suggest that the blue is too light, but that depends on time of day, cloud coverage, and who you ask. The hue is a good compromise between the replica and Jim Wilke's work, so it's good enough for everyone I've asked thus far. 3) The interiors are PERFECT. Both Jupiter's cab and the coaches are simply flawless. The upholstery on the chairs could be a little more dingy, maybe, but all that really means is you could believably use the clerestory coach to double for Stanford's private car. 4) The text is probably not perfect, but it may as well be, because any better would probably take years to develop. If it's good enough for the National Park Service, it's a little bit better on here, so you'd have to be a full-time rivet-counter like me to notice any incongruences. PERFORMANCE: This is an 1868 4-4-0 built by a rather excitable Scot in New York. Remember this. The handbrakes are going to take some getting used to for most users. Me, I've developed handbrake-only 4-4-0s for Trainz and ridden on multiple engines build in the 1870s bearing considerable load, so I'm used to it. Once you figure it out, braking is a piece of cake with these engines. Just don't overestimate it. The water feed pumps are going to give some people nightmares. Just know that they don't work at a standstill and they don't fill the boiler any faster than water's being used unless you're going more than 10mph. That may seem awfully slow to be concerning you, but it's a serious problem if you're taking any grade. These are NOT powerful engines. They could carry up to eight or ten cars on the flat but if you're climbing Donner I wouldn't have more than four or five, and don't expect it to be a fast journey. I made the mistake of running out of Oakland on the SN with four coaches, which is something like 250ft/mi, and I stalled rather quickly. Going over a more subdued line like the Feather River, you can take 4 coaches at 20mph the whole way. That may not sound like much, but remember that average freight speed clocked in around 7mph at the time. Finally, beware the reverser lock. You can't shift it easily as you can in a car or other engines, this entirely by hand. Have too much pressure in the steam chest and it'll just force itself forward to 75%. Shut the throttle to 20% or less, wait a bit for steam to dissipate and/or open the drains, adjust the reverser as you wish, let it lock and then reopen the throttle. I recommend starting at about 30-45% reverser unless you're on a hill of over 25ft/mi (or about 0.45%). IN SUMMARY: This is a simple engine and simple cars, modeled as closely as possible. Take care of them, and they'll take care of you. Mike, with all his effort, managed to replicate the one key feature of a steam engine - it reacts to its driver in a way that's utterly unique. I doubt Mike put these engines on different physics from one another, but I've found Jupiter to use water a bit slower, and to be bolder starting from a stand, more prone to wheelslip, but more capable once she's underway. Whirlwind, by contrast, seems (ironically) more timid, with a slightly damper temprament than her sister. I haven't driven Storm or Leviathan yet, mostly because I've been taking Whirlwind all the way up the Feather River canyon for a lark. P. S. Goodbye world, I think I'm going to be absorbed in these for the next hundred or so hours of my life. See you next week.
