Will wonders never cease - there is at least one 'Good' DLC in the Middle Earth franchise. In earlier reviews I have given great praise to the "Middle-Earth: Mordor" titles themselves while also lambasting many of the poor, uninspired, cash-grab DLC's dropped by the Warner Brothers team to pad out their otherwise remarkable releases. These execrable additions include "Lord of the Hunt" and "Blade of Galadriel" which are so low quality that they're almost not worth completing even for free. Going into "Desolation of Mordor" I expected more of the same and was ready to thumbs-down the title when I first sensed it's impending mediocrity. Imagine my surprise then when the title meets (and even moderately exceeds) my expectations. It doesn't seem like a DLC which is (1) a rouge-like or (2) without brand/dominate ability or (3) lacking any of Talion's wraith-powers would draw in a player once you've already experienced the adrenal high of being an Orc God Commander, but somehow this chapter of playing as a fragile human just works well and it's compact enough to enjoy in a single sitting. The abilities and inventory are engaging enough to add a new type of challenge to your game, and the goals are intuitively challenging without just turning up the difficulty slider. It's a solidly interesting addition to the franchise and worthy enough to pick up for anyone buying the base title. I knew Warner Brothers could do it if they really tried - good work, WB.

This DLC taught me a very important lesson on how to best utilize perma-death in games. If you have perma-death, make sure there are enemies with tracking attacks that ignores the fact that you actually pushed the required button prompt, also make sure that it depletes the players full health on both hard and medium difficulty. For what reason? Just to artificially lengthen the gameplay time, like we are back in the fucking NES age. Other than that, it's a really fun little DLC.
