Super fun FPS game. This kind of thing is definitely becoming one of my favourite types of game. The levels were so much fun to play through and were all very distinct from each other. For some reason, I enjoyed playing this with a controller way more than on keyboard & mouse. I should've expected David Szymanski to do something different with the game, but I was still blown away by how unique he made a lot of these levels. Some incredibly interesting art direction.

As of writing this I have not played a lot of this game but jeez is this fun so far, the level design is actually perfect, it encourages you to search for secrets and explore the map while keeping that classic run and gun fun with such a variety of weapons, I was playing through the first campaign and actually found a secret level, honestly just an amazing game and I plan to keep playing this for a long time.

As of writing this, haven't completed the game - but it has totally won me over with the Escher Labs map. This is a romping good time, and you WILL enjoy yourself.

Great boomer shooter that reminds me of Quake, although a bit short for today's standards, it's still super fun.

Like almost every single other so-called 'Boomer Shooter', this game misses the ONE feature that ACTUALLY made games like this popular in the first place: Co-op Multiplayer. That alone shows how out of touch the modern gaming industry is - even Indie devs have their heads up their arses. On to the review now. =========================================================== I don't rate this game but I've recommended it. This is because the first two episodes are worth the price alone Which works in well because everything after that is not only worthless, but actively cruel. It feel like the designer was so sick of doing their job, so they tried to pass the along the pain to the player. The boss battle is TERRIBLE. Listen to me: It's the worst-designed boss battle I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing, Which is pretty impressive considering it's literally just two combatants in one tiny room. No setpiece, no workaround, nothing clever - just 'fuck you' if you enjoyed playing the game so far. It requires understanding gaming concepts (specifically, enemy bunny hopping) that the game NEVER even introduces, let alone teaches you about. This game doesn't feel like a celebration of old school gaming, it feels like the digital version of the sentence 'you wouldn't last very long back in my day'. Like, it's not about sharing joy that older games brought. It's more about punishing people who weren't there at the time. For the record I was there at the time. Played the original Blood and Blood 2 at launch. I KNOW how to defeat a bunny-hopping enemy - shoot a lot and don't stand still. It's just crap design - so I refuse to engage with the end of game, which I feel has cursed the previous time I spent in the game, which makes me feel like the whole thing was a waste of time. Again, this game feels more like punishment than joy. Buyer Beware but also some of you freaks love that shit, and you're the ones I'm recommending the game to, dig?

This is hands down one of the best boomer shooters I ever played. The combat is satisfying, the weapons are simple but fun, the secrets are fun to find, the level design overall is great and reminded me of Quake a lot. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys games in this genre 100%. Don't even get me started on the OST. It is incredible. I'll be listening to it for a while even after finishing the rest of the game.

As a Boomer Shooter, DUSK is really good where it counts. The movement is tight, shots are accurate and taking down enemies feels satisfying. There are many different weapons, from normal pistols to exploding rivet guns, and many enemies like Wizards, Wendigos and dogs in rolling cages. Another strong point of DUSK is the atmosphere; every level feels dank, oppressive and foreboding, and it almost never lets up. And the rocking soundtrack is the cherry on top - it's really good. DUSK does have a few weaknesses though. Hit feedback is a bit weak, as is the weapon feel. There is not much weight behind shots and the accompanying sound effects, which isn't that important for a boomer shooter, but could still feel better. Level design is generally pretty good, but it follows the traditional "find key in one part of the level and use it in a different part" pattern of Hexen, Heretic and so forth, so if you are bad at memorizing level layouts, DUSK may frustrate at times - a problem that is made worse by the fact there is no TAB map for the levels. In my opinion, though, most of the levels are small and compact enough that it only rarely becomes a problem. Even so, DUSK has its heart and most of its body parts in the right place. As someone who has learned to enjoy Boomer Shooters in recent years, DUSK is definitely one of the best I have played so far, and secrets, achievements and endless modes lend some replayability for those who seek it. A definite recommendation!
