An absolute classic. I don't know how the new DRDR compares to the original, but you can't really go wrong with this one. Not too many issues as far as I've gotten besides a crash while I was attempting to get Zombie Genocider.

After playing for 96.7 hours and earning the platinum trophy, I can confidently say that Dead Rising is the best zombie apocalypse game I’ve ever played.
You play as Frank West, a photojournalist who lands in the small town of Willamette to investigate a mysterious outbreak. What starts as a routine assignment quickly turns into a fight for survival as Frank finds himself trapped in a shopping mall overrun by zombies. Along the way, he uncovers a government conspiracy and must rescue survivors while trying to piece together the truth.
The game has it all: great art direction, memorable characters, an amazing soundtrack, and a fantastic protagonist and antagonists. The gameplay is fun and creative, letting you use almost anything as a weapon. The time management adds tension, and the humor keeps things light. The mall setting is iconic, and Frank’s journey from journalist to hero is engaging.
With multiple endings and lots of replay value, Dead Rising is challenging but rewarding. After all this time, it’s clear: this is the best zombie game out there.

If i could give this game a neutral rating I would. I'm a big fan of DR2 and DR2: Off the Record. I played the sh*t out of those back in the day and decided to give this one a go after clearing a hole in my backlog. This one is not my jam. The AI for survivors is terrible, bosses are annoying at their best, and above all it's just a bit too clunky. I'm fine with timed missions but not AI worse than a goldfish.
That being said, I do appreciate that the zombies are actually a threat in this game. I've always thought that DR2 and it's sequels feel a bit too easy after your first time through. Even on a blind playthrough I was only dying to psycopaths and time-loss than any Zed. It's actually quite refreshing to feel like I need to think about how to deal with zombies rather than just shouldering past them. I think the best thing for someone like me may be looking at modding DR2 and adding some more challenging zombies.

So, besides a small bug, and the survivors ai being garbage ( except for a few wich i happily escorted ), the game is great, and it makes sense why it got 3 games. the pc version has some bugs, but it's not unplayable, it's fun, killing zombies is fun, and the overall experience goes from 'god, i hate this task' to 'finally i finished this task, time to farm pp!'
If you're gonna play this, i recommend getting the three books to give the small chainsaw from Adam a huge buff in durability.

Balancing self aware goofiness with an appropriately dark tone that keeps the whole thing from turning into a complete farce, Dead Rising is everything you could want in a Dawn of the Dead inspired game. Sure, even after almost 20 years nothing more instantly fills me with cold dread like the opening riff and that little wolf howl at the beginning of "Gone Guru", and covering or even fighting wars couldn't possibly be any more harrowing than the soul crushing futility of trying to get the imbecilic survivors to walk past a handful of zombies in order to cross a room. Yet experiencing one of Capcom's finest creative achievements is well worth the attendant lifelong traumas.

stressful and tediously fun zombie game with a great story, if you enter this game blindly.
and yes, there is a time limit system if you haven't seen it already, which i argue adds to the horror and fun element of the game (where you'll most definitely be punished for wandering around too much.)
an interesting innovation this game has made is the case system. fail a mission or arrive too late and you can still play the game or restart it, leading you to either unlock an ending or start from a save, or well... start all over Again. and progression from your previous "Runs" as i'll call them, can carry over to new games, serving as a sort of difficulty system.
you can definitely sap the fun from this game if you already know and use the best weapons/equipment from the start, so I'd recommend you go in blind as this has ruined some of the fun from the experience.

was the first zombie game I've ever played. See myself coming back here more than any game i own. If its full price or on sale i would always recommend playing this one. Game is so simple and do whatever you want type attitude. Hands down the best zombie game.

Despite its age, Dead Rising still holds up as a true classic that was way ahead of its time, even more so in its remastered version.
What might look like a somewhat railroaded clunky action-survival game at a first glance is actually a semi-roguelike masterpiece of action, adventure and decision-making. Make mistakes, get familiar with the map and the scripted events of the game, then go for the kill and beat the game in a proper full run after failing one or two before that. The game's intro should be a subject of study given how excellent it is from both a storytelling and gameplay perspective.
There are only two drawbacks to the game : abysmal friendly NPC AI and clunky aiming with guns and thrown weapons. Other than that, the game simply doesn't miss the mark.
