I just finished this game on a day I am sick and bed-ridden, and my god this game was such a wonderful choice to keep me company. Like I already liked the first encounter, but the second encounter not only takes the solid core premise of gameplay of the first encounter, it makes it even more fun. Like the introduction of sniper rifle, chainsaw, and serious bomb just adds to the flavor of chaos, and this time, it also elevates its level design by constantly experimenting with environment design, obstacles, level structure, and best of all, the level art.
Don't get me wrong, the first game is amazing looking with its egyptian aesthetics, but after a while, every structure got way too familiar. This game, however, kept thing fresh. Moving from jungles, to mayan temples, to lava to cathedrals, and much much more. Like the last three levels in particular are a visual feast despite the dated graphics. Like the artistry here is amazing, and the gunplay being more chaotic and fun with the extra weapons just make this game a blast.
While this game may never cross my personal top 10 games of all time or even top 50, I would still say it was a dang fantastic time that not only improved on its predecessor but fully embraced its chaotic nature but also gave us visual treats as a bonus. Truly, Serious Sam: The Second encounter is a treat that you should not miss at all!
