"Hey, Mikey?" "Yeah?" "Whaddya think woulda happened if 'R-Type Final' was actually 'Darius?'" "I think it would have been something like 'DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours,' Paulie." Or, to restate, it was shortly after I started playing this that I thought, "This is Taito's 'R-Type Final.'" Although, with less variety of ship choice, and a different graphical style. But some of the similarities were pretty eerie. "DARChroSav" is definitely an arcade port. It's meant to be a devourer of quarters - guaranteed to kill you repeatedly until you've memorized everything, though easily defanged if you have unlimited continues. The graphics and enemy designs are pretty neat, but you won't get much time to look at anything because of all the projectiles you have to dodge. (That's just the way these things go.) The boss battles have a good dose of interest, but they also boil down to hammering a bullet sponge for several minutes. Of course, you can spend enough time to really learn all the patterns, but I don't find memorization to be all that fun. The game promises a gazillion missions, and I certainly don't expect all of that to be handcrafted, but the content remixing got very samey in a hurry. There was also significant "clunk" factor, where finishing a mission in a certain mode dumps you all the way back into a primary menu, instead of letting you continue on with another zone as one might expect. That, in particular, seemed to be a strange choice to me. Is this fun? Sure, it's a game I could have enjoyed in an arcade and also appreciated on my own PC. But 3 hours of it was plenty.

It's worth every penny. The audio and music is out of this world. You must buy this, or you will miss out on the action.

Lots of content and the DLC is a blast. A great modern shooter showing both old school and new school gamers how good a modern shmup can be

FIREFOSSIL IS APPROACHING!!! If you played the original, then you know just how badass this game genre is, otherwise, it would probably be too primitive for you by today's standards. This bullet hell side scroller was the shiz back in the day. Chronice Saviors is just more of the good stuff, more new ships, satellite pods with extra powers in expansions, etc. Get a controller and get ready for those armored sea creatures, because they are COMING FAST.
