Train Simulator: Corris Railway Route Add-On DLC

The wonderful world of Welsh narrow gauge comes to life in Train Simulator with the recently re-opened Corris Railway. With passenger services long gone and mineral freight in decline, it became less worthwhile for the Great Western Railway to combat the eroding force of the River Dovey (Afor Dyfi).

I have to say, I haven't had this much fun with any other add-on so far. First of all, yes, it's not a route of great length nor is there much traffic going on other than on the roads next to the tracks and it's missing a few more sheep in my eyes (it is Wales after all), BUT being able to finish a whole scenario with shunting and passenger service between waking up in the morning and having to leave for work is just the most amazing thing. The gravity train is oodles of fun, even though it's a short ride. But on a short route, every ride is a short ride, so I'm not upset at all. It comes with one engine and one engine only. But my word! What an engine! Also owning a copy of the Talyllyn Railway it's fun on a short run, it's fun on a long run, it's fun to run it along side its cousins so to speak that now run on the Talyllyn. I love the cabin, all the levers are properly marked and explained and the main manifold valve even bears a clever explanation why you can't turn it off. Let's just say, I've had a lot of laughs driving on this route. In regards to the missing sheep (more is always better), it's the only route that I've seen, featuring donkeys. Donkeys. How briliant is that? As a german only having been interested in welsh railways recently and thus having paid the full price since I couldn't wait for it to go on sale, I just had to have it, I say it's worth every penny in my book.

My favourite DLC for short fun playing. The key word is short though. Probably no more than 10 minutes from one end to the other. It could be greatly improved (and consequently worth more), with the addition of a few more miles of track and an extra station or two. A slate siding at one end and a lorry at the other end would increase playability and the variety of tasks which can be done. I think the other two engines sold separately at £8 is a bit much but greatly improve play. Other little things such as how quickly the engine stops at platforms is unrealistic, the coaches being full of people when in the coach shed which aren't then seen when running. Lets have a lot more sheep, and the vehicles on the road stuck behind a caravan would remind me of my holidays. These are small things, I enjoy the DLC, very different from others I own.

I have played around with this map for abit, and I am very impressed. What we have here is a very solid route, with finely detailed equipment and nice all new sounds. My hope is that other people will like this route as much as I do, because DTG needs to know we want more routes like this. Also, being $12.50, this route contains the most inexpensive steam loco in game, and it is very nicely simulated.

The Corris Railway is a small route and very nicely detailed. Due to its size the scenarios aren't that long and are mostly under or just over 30min. Included is one loco a couple of coaches and some wagons. I think the main winners here are those that build routes as this add-on provides some really nice assets. The main drawback is that with no signals and the route being only a couple of miles, scenario creation is very limited. Also seeing people walk on air and through buildings is another but that's usually seen on other routes anyway. For it's small size and being mostly trouble free buying it on sale is the way to go for this one.

The corris railway is a great little line with great history, and this addon captures it very well! The custom buildings, engines, rolling stock and I think track, shows this team is commited to this. However, I did have a few problems 1: No. 7 has a few problems, though the body looks good the boiler looks a bit too small, there's a small texture bug with the right crosshead (it has black dot on it). The sounds seemed to be off a bit at higher speed, at 11mph the chuff speed increased to 12 mph, which is too fast for what I was doing. But, the biggest problem (I haven't fully confirmed this) but when I started a quick drive, the loco was facing the right direction, but the coaches were not. The doors were to the left, and all the stations platforms are to the right. 2: The village of corris is badly under detailed, I thought skyhook would try to show where the track bed continues (as the corris was a very large line) and that goes for tan-y-coed. Very under detailed where the trackbed would continue. But that's really it, this addon is a great piece of history you can play around with, and the fact they included the possible extention and newer features make it a great addon. I personally give it a 92% approval.

Hands down one lf the best ever DLC for Train Simulator. Paired with RW Enhancer and AP's skies, you can take the route look like a true Welsh valley. Texturing on the buildings on the route is absolutely spot on. Corris Number 7 has also got really nice physics and can be a real challenge to drive. This route got me into TS in the first place. Very fun. 10/10

A short but beautifully constructed narrow gauge route. OK, the track could be a little smoother in places (though many narrow gauge routes are quite bumpy in real life) and the potential for varied scenarios is quite limited but the atmosphere is excellent. For less than £5 in the sale it is well worth a punt. (On the second scenario I racked up -10 000 points by struggling to get up the incline from the shed. I never did like career mode!)

The Corris Railway Route Add-on Review: Firstly, before DTG announced this was being made on their Facebook page, I'd never heard of it. I first thought that this route was fictional, but I soon learned through the informative scenarios that this route is very much in fact, real. It is the first and only (as of July 2016) British Narrow Gauge route available for train simulator, something that has been wanted/needed for a long time. So what do you get for your money? The complete railway from Corris to the current base at Maespoeth, as well as the proposed extension to Tan-y-Coed, with the small halt station of Esgairgeiliog along the way. Which gives the total length of just under 1 and a half miles. Not much but the route is very scenic and a pleasant journey throughout, from one end to the other takes around 20-25 minutes. Also included is the Tattoo No. 7 loco, which looks a bit like the 'Skarloey' engine from Thomas the Tank engine. A very nice little loco with a realistic steam chest and not too bad sounds. Very nice looking loco and a Pleasure to drive. (I haven't been to the Corris railway in reality so I can't say or not whether it looks like the real thing but a nice looking loco never the less). There's also 2 different passenger coaches, (as can be seen from the pictures) again nicely detailed and a nice touch. Along with some freight wagons which have realistic rolling physics, so if you uncouple them on a hill say, they will roll down until they fly off the rails or smash into the buffers! They are used in a scenario called 'The Gravity Run'. So should you buy this route? For the money, I would say yes. £9.99 for a route and a loco and stock to go with it is a bargain in any gauge. Bear in mind the Clear Creek route is £24.99. If you like narrow gauge then this route is definitely recommended, it's a nice length that doesn't take all day, but doesn't get boring at the same time (in my opinion). The scenery around the town and away from the railway is a bit lacking in detail as is most DLC. Pros: Nice scenic narrow gauge route New narrow gauge loco and rolling stock 8 Scenarios Decent price Cons: Only the one loco included, would have liked at least a small diesel loco as well but hey. Due to the sudden and steep gradients, it is very easy to speed, which makes your score on the career scenarios drop like a stone. Lacking detail in some areas No re-fuelling points on the route, meaning you cannot fill a loco back up with coal and water once empty. Narrow gauge loco's due to their size do not carry much of each. No signalling at all on the route which means AI is practically impossible Overall I would give it a 8.5/9 out of 10. Not bad route if you're interested in narrow gauge. A good and fun buy but don't expect mountains of detail at the same time. I would say it's more for the fun than the realism, but should be enjoyed by all! Thanks for reading.

A most beautiful very short narrow gauge route for TS! Very recommended! PROS: +You get to drive the No.7 "Tattoo" and the Gravity Car. +8 scenarios! +The route is beautiful along the way. +Well detailed rolling stock and great sounds! +Steep gradients which adds a challenge. +The purposed Tan-y-Coed extension goes along the A487 road. +Decent price at 12.99 USD! CONS: -No signaling which will make AI impossible -Nowhere to refill in the route, the No.7 tends to hold a little coal and water. -Sloppy trackwork, not sure if this was that in real life. -Poor physics on the Gravity Car -They could have inculded a small diesel. -The route is very short but this is what it is IRL. -People can stand/float on tracks due to the stations are very small. This route is really not bad still but a little work could still be done. There's also Clear Creek Narrow Gauge that you can get for $40 if you like American Railroads. This route is very fun and historic, this route isn't that lengthy and it has some realism to it. The reason why I grabbed it because after look at videos and streams about this route, it looks kind of interesting. I may suggest to wait for a bit of a discount and you won't be disappointed, if you like narrow gauge routes or steamers then get this right away. I would rate this 8/10!
