General Electric established itself as an independent builder of mainline diesel locomotives in 1959 with its 2,500-horsepower U25B, and throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s, GE produced an ever-expanding – and more powerful – line of “Universal”-series diesels, which came to be widely nicknamed as “U-boats.

06/21/21 .....Pretty nice loco, I fixed the 64 bit problem from following a reviewer, I think the name was Kooth Odic,...or something. Worked great...now controls work. Also at the railworks site. there is a fix for the "too dark windows" That worked perfect as well. Now i'm enjoying running this one again on 64 bit. Hope to find some different skins for this one. like UP, D&RG, BN etc...enjoy !

With a quick fix provided by Kooth Odok, this and the CSX C30-7 are probably the best non Searchlight Simulation locomotives made, the textures aren't the best, but what the U30C comes with such as manual loco startup, and among the best physics that make the operating experience on the Mountain Sub so much better.

When DTG upgraded TS20xx to 64bit it broke this dlc hard. Under 64bit the throttle is bugged and no longer works.

Amazing Loco very challenging controls but once worked out it's brilliant! The cab and moving around the whole engine is complexed if your in expert mode! Looks very much like the U30C is the Beta before the beta Train Sim World Beta CSX In December. For example you have to go find the side engine compartment to prime before starting the engine with a lot of other things in the correct order just to get it to move. But over all brilliant would recommend very highly 12/10

After a lot of practice and struggling, finally figured out how to get it to move. Its a great engine, has really great sounds. Love the hoppe's rolling sounds. This is by far the best U boat ive seen for Train Simulator.

Technically, this is now a broken DLC that should not be sold. In 64bit, which is pretty much the only way to play without OOM error, the locomotive throttle does not respond no matter what you do. There is apparently a way to fix it, but you have to dive into the files and download a completely different locomotive to do so. While VRC's models were awesome, and the ones that do still work in game are still stunning overall, this DLC is broken. If you are confident in your ability to swap up files, then buy this on sale, but do not pay full price ever. It really should be freeware at this point.

You really can't go wrong with this dlc at all. An awesome gem with great sounds, advanced start up and shut down procedures, and some really great 100-ton coal hoppers to play with.
This thing has awesome sounds, it literally sounds just like the real thing. It even looks like the real thing. In fact, you'd think this is a JointedRail dlc for TSC, but it's not even JointedRail and the sounds and textures are great.
Like I mentioned earlier, you get some lovely hoppers. And these aren't those ugly and terrible plastic toy-looking DTM 100 Ton hoppers that you'd find in pretty much any CSX/NS themed loco dlc (cough CSX SD45-2 dlc cough-cough) by him. These hoppers sound and look like actual 100-ton coal hoppers. Almost Searchlight Simulations/JointedRail quality 100-tons. These definitely go hand in hand with the freight wagons from VRC's Norfolk Southern C39-8 and CSX C30-7 locomotive dlc, as well as searchlight simulations' freight packs.
The most important thing before even TRYING to operate this locomotive is to READ THE FRICKING MANUAL! Most of the negative reviews on this dlc's page are from users who haven't even read the damn manual for the dlc locomotive and just assumed this dlc was one of those get up and go locomotives, which is a dumb assumption to make.
There was (and I think this problem still exists) an issue with the 64 bit version of TSC which prevented the locomotive from working, however there is a fix for it on railworks america, which shout-out to Steam user Kooth Odok for providing a helpful solution to the 64-bit issue, so there's no excuse for a "it won't move" review. Read the manual and download the fix from railworks america and you'll be fine. However, this dlc most likely already has the fix, so you might not even need it.

Got this in the 2020 Christmas sale. Nice looking, lots of "advanced" features to click and switch, some truly nice sounds, but ultimately ruined because in 64-bit mode (which I thought just about everyone had switched to) you can't move the power handle at all; not by keyboard, not by mouse. It does work fine in 32-bit mode, but then you're back to all the hassle that comes with running in what is, effectively, restricted mode.
It also seems that Virtual Rail Creations have disappeared along the way, which is sad because they have the basis for a very good product here and I was hoping to get my hands on a BN liveried example to run over the backdated Marias Pass route, but no, denied...
Will recommend for now as I'm optimistic it'll get fixed, but this is pending a response from DTG whose record for revisiting and fixing stuff is... questionable.
Edit: I saw Kooth Odok's remarks on how to fix the 64-bit mode and can confirm this does work, however, it's a bit much that DTG havent't fixed it themselves. Oh, and the dynamic brakes don't work (yes, I moved the selector 🙄).

Incredibly detailed and very interactive. One of the best US locos available for Train Simulator.
But: Due to the power lever scripting, it only works in 32-bit mode - but it works like a charm.
There is a "fix" around that replaces the script - do not use it as you will lose your dynamic brake and the amp gauge will not work properly.
Absolutely recommended!

This is a very nice/detailed locomotive model. Just be aware that it does say "TS Pro" for a reason. That being said, there is a known issue with this locomotive in which the throttle does not work while plaing the game in 64bit. But if you play in 32bit mode, it works fine.
Well, there is a fix for this issue. Just follow these steps.
1. Go to the Railworks America website ( www.railworksamerica.com ).
2. Click on File Library and then Models and then do a search in the upper right corner for ( RW&A GP40 and GP30 slug unit ). Or try following this link; ( http://www.railworksamerica.com/index.php/download-library/rw-a-addons?view=document&id=2445:rw-a-gp40-and-gp30-slug-unit&catid=30:rwa-lakeside-addons ).
3. Download and install the ( RW&A GP40 and GP30 slug unit ). It will install into VRC/RWA-GP40-01.
4. Now, go into the following folder, VRC/RWA-GP40-01/LuaLibrary, and copy the file "CommonLib-1.1.out".
5. Paste this file into your VRC/U30C-Series_01/LuaLibrary folder and when asked to overwrite, say yes. ( Please backup this folder first, just in case!!! )
6. Make sure to delete the file, "Blueprints.pak" in your VRC/U30C-Series_01 folder and the VRC/RWA-GP40-01 folder, if there is one there. ( Don't worry, the game will make a new one once you start the game. )
7. That's it! You should now be able to run the U30C in 64 bit mode with no problems now.
I hope this helps.
