Train Simulator: BR Blue Pack Loco Add-On DLC

The classic Rail Blue livery of British Rail from the 1960s typified the heyday of diesel traction across the UK’s railway network, as depicted in this collection of diesel locomotives for the Weardale & Teesdale Network.

It's a shame to say that I cannot recommend this addon due to the inaccuracy of some of the locos included in the pack the biggest let down and probably what is supposed to be the star of the pack is the hideous horse clatter sounded Class 25/3 with terribly modelled front ends with tail lights far too close together, the 25/3 is advertised as a correct model but in game it is completely the opposite and a massive disappointment, with the tail lights being too close together it makes the Locomotive undrivable and the sounds being nicked from an older class 50 start up sound from an old product which doesn't represent that Sulzer sound at all, the class 03 shunter still has the same sounds as the one in Doncaster works which was released years ago and the Class 37,55 and 31 all have default recycled sounds from all of the other separate packs that they are included in the only difference being the livery and variation, don't buy this pack unless it is in the sale the physics and modelling is not great.

Overall, this is a wonderful pack. Although, the 25 seems to sluggish, like when hauling 5 coaches, it takes a while to go up to track speed. I wish that all of the locos had scenarios, but only the 25, 31, and 37 have scenarios. What i also liked about this pack, is that all of the locos are raildriver compatible without any modifications. This is a excellent addition to the weardale and teesdale line. It brings a wondeful new era to the route.

This DLC is ok to purchase during a sale. As it stands in 2022, these models are old now and pale in comparison to newer DLC. However, for scenario creation they are good for AI traffic and Static consists, as well as enabling the user to download and run more workshop scenarios. Please do note though, that the physics are a bit off on some locos and some are slightly under powered, but patches do exists to help resolve the problem a bit.

A great value pack with 5 different loco's, Not keen on how the 37 looks but it's based on an older model, It's nice to have a later version of the 25, Something different to the Weardale version but it looks a bit cross eyed, See my link for a pack of 15 Class 25 repaints - https://drive.google.com/file/d/17GWwXcnqGowlhJR5lNyy7HZMojsnJ7_b/view?usp=drive_link

Rather nice pack. Shame the scenarios only use three of the locos as the player, not all of them. I think this pack would have worked better on the East Coast MainLine route, instead of Weardale and Teesdale, as most of the route would have closed by the time BR Blue came about. Class 37 looks much nicer than the original one from 2007. The rest of the locos are very nice, however the deltic does let it down a bit. Here is my YouTube review if you want to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=432tBe5g4qw

If you're a scenario builder or simply looking to increase you're loco collection then this pack is certainly ideal. As the name of the pack suggests all loco's and units in this pack are in BR Blue livery along with Mk1 carriages in a Blue/Grey livery but also PCA, PCAV and YGH wagons to go with it. You might think $19.99 is too much but remember despite the Mk1's and three types of wagons but you also get six trains to choose from such as the, Class 03 Class 25/2 Class 31/0 Class 37 Class 55 Class 105 Not only that but three scenarios for the Weardale & Teesdale Network are provided so you're getting a fairly nice deal. Also if you use sound packs from Armstrong Powerhouse they have updated some of their packs to include some of these loco's. The one's covered are the Class 31, 55, 37 and 105. 9/10

I was going to put 'Not Recommended' as there is no third 'Neutral' option but I'll give it thumbs up as I have to acknowledge that the price is reasonable for what it is...... IF it's in the sale. Thats when I bought it and I dont regret it because a few of the items will be useful in scenarios but a lot this pack is a bit of a con. There is nothing much new here, in fact, most people will already have the class 37 and 55 from the Euro Assets pack which comes with alot of UK routes, even then the 55 is ONLY for AI use for some reason, WHY? DTG has had a drivable model out for years! Then theres the class 25. Well, this pack is aimed at people who bought the Weardale & Teesdale Network which comes with..... a CLASS 25! All you get here is a blue paintjob. Then there's the class 105 DMU. To those that havent got a 1st generation DMU like this, it will seem quaint and fun but those who already have the Class 101 will find it laughable. It doesnt 'change gears', it just changes engine note. Watch the rev counter, it stays totally static. Tell me how you can change from 2nd to 3rd to 4th with a noticeable change in engine note and see the revs stay the same? Then theres the AWS 'sunflower' that is ALWAYS showing a danger aspect. ALL AWS units should be black when showing clear, not just an unlit sunflower. Thing is, as I mentioned, they already HAVE the class 101 which works well, why not just port that over to this? Its just sloppy and makes no sense as i'm sure it cant have saved any time. Another thing to note is the AWFUL soundset and because this is a new pack, the AP dmu soundpack that covers the rest of the DTG mk1 DMU range doesnt work here. The 105 is therefore basically only good for AI traffic, if you want to drive a realistic and well done early DMU, go get the 101. I want to leave this on a positive though, you do get a nice set of wagons and the class 31 is fine, nothing special but it does have its own character and the soundset isnt half bad. This is one loco that most will probably not have and will make a nice change for all the '47s seen in every scenario in the background. Finally, the 03 shunter is charming, combining gears with shunting will no doubt make for a few interesting scenarios in the workshop in the future and it's a very nice model and will look good parked in a siding as well. So in summery, especially if bought in the sales, it's not bad for the Class 03 and 25, a class 31 paintjob and a 105 AI unit. Ignore the rest of the waffle.

This is a fairly good DLC for the price, a lot of people may thing oh great another $20 for a horrible locomotive. The thing you don't realize with this pack is that you are getting locomotives that have been done redone from the bad state and turned into some fairly high quality DLC. The wagons included are taken from the WCML Over Shap route from the look I had at them. I really enjoy driving the Class 105 and 03 just because who would not want to drive a loco with a shifter. In the end I would buy this package if you are trying to recreate the BR Blue Era of UK History.
