Train Simulator: Norfolk Southern Big 7s Loco Add-On DLC
The Norfolk Southern Big 7s add-on brings two variations of the GE Dash 7 locomotive to Train Simulator. The 3,600 horsepower four-axle GE B36-7 was built from 1980 until 1985 as successor to the famous U36B ‘U-Boats’.

This Is A Amazing Pack of NS C36-7's, and U Boats. I think my favorite one would be the High Hood NS B36-7. The only one i think this would be a good pack for 1980's to 1990's scnearios.

Nice set of locos, decent sounds, too. It would be better if some freight cars were included, but overall nice selection of locomotives.

This is a good loco pack, with some cool variations and variety in how you can run the Big-7's. The things that suck about this pack are: Horns are new, but they sound weird, No new cars, and the paint schemes could be better.

These locomotives may all look the same from the screenshots, but when i got them, i was amazed on how different they were. they all have different reporting marks from their previous owners, like NW, SOU, and CR, and so much more. the high nose Ex SOU is probably my favorite since you can drive it either way with control panels on each side of the cab

As is typical, I recommend on sale but not full price. The locomotives are OK, but they don't stand up well with newer content. Interior needs a desperate update, as well as the sounds. I got it just to grab the Southern reskins on RWA, to be perfectly honest. The texturing is alright externally, but even the photos here show the cab detail and texturing to be well outdated. If it got a hard rework, i'd say it'd be worth the 20 bucks, but not right now. On sale only.

- Bad blending of start/loop/end sounds for horn.
- Engine rev up/down sounds are sometimes relatively loud at low RPM, making their sudden beginning and end noticeable.
- Dynamic brakes start out extremely powerful at notch 1 and cause wheelslip very easily.
~ Ditch light switch can't be reached without pulling the power handle back. The camera is correctly positioned over the seat, so this isn't so much a fault of the modelling as the fact you can't move your head around in the game without a head tracking peripheral.
+ Lots of configurations! For your money you're getting what DTG would split into multiple different loco addons (or, more likely, they simply wouldn't model the variants ever). On the other hand, there are no added freight cars typical of DTM releases.

Whilst I certainly admire the painstaking attention to detail that DTM has put into this release, there are a couple of issues that mire what would be a perfect score in my humble opinion, and I sincerely hope that the modelers will take note of this constructive feedback and fix the problem.
1). The driver's position is located too far back, as a result the view of Main / Equaliser reservoir gauge is blocked by the brake / air pedestal.
2). In addition the current view position makes it difficult to view the other gauges; I have noted that the HUD ammeter only works intermittently (and not at all when under dynamic brakes), my personal preference is to view the guages as opposed to relying on HUD information - it is a train simulator after all.
3). Finally, the current driver's position also drastically narrows your field of view outside, this is even more pronounced when running Long nose first through being too far away from the windscreen.
There are only 2 views available in the cabs themselves at present, (for running both directions) and both have the same issue of blocking views to a vitally important gauge, restricting the view of the others and the view out front.
I do not see how these views could be representative of the real life situation either because a driver needs to see all the gauges in order to safely operate the locomotive, and the apparent distance from the Reverser / Throttle / Dynamic brake handles would suggest only those with abnormally long arms would be able to reach them IRL (if this is modeled accurately).
I really want to recommend this content - great pains have been taken by DTM to produce a great bit of DLC, but at present DTM really needs to fix the driver's position, because it is the one (but important) impediment that spoils what would be a perfect simulation of the Dash 7 group represented in this pack.
As such, I reluctantly give a thumbs down to this release. Should DTM address this issue, I would gladly change my stance, but until this happens I view this as a great release with a game spoiling flaw.

My feelings for DTM's addons have been a bit of a roller coaster, going between being happy and being disappointed, but they absolutely hit it out of the ballpark with this addon. This addon isn't just my favorite addon from DTM, but it's my favorite American locomotive addon for Train Simulator. I'm a fan of Norfolk Southern's early years during the early and mid 1980s, and this is perfect for the period.
-The pack comes with several different Dash-7 models, including 4-axle Dash-7s in both high hood and low nose variants.
-What's that? You wanted a Southern Railway B36-7? They've got a reskin for one on Railworks America, and it's a perfect companion for the TravelByTrain NS/SOU GP50, as NS usually ran B36s and GP50s together in the same lash-up.
-They both look and sound amazing. The bell actually sounds like a bell, the horns are more or less correct for their respective locomotives, and the prime mover has that deep throaty, GE "chug".
-Norfolk Southern Dash-7s got around quite a bit between 1982 and the early 2000s and could appear on other railroads as "pool power", so these work for almost any US route.
If you like vintage diesels, this addon is very much worth purchasing.

Really worth the wait, sounds are fantastic. down to the bell button, I say that because when you turn off the bell. A small bit of air pressure releases. I'm hoping DTG can do that with the horns to at some point to? As everything is powered by air pressure. One little thing I saw that I thought was strange was, when you turn the ditch lights on you can't hit the J button on your keyboard to turn them on/off or if it's a NS/CSX locomotive flashing/non-flashing? You either can turn them off, or on, or flashing non- stop. But overall I think I'll have a lot of fun with these bad boys. And got them for $9.00 to!

This DLC worth it! Comes with B36-7 and C36-7 that has GREAT sounds! Both comes in Long Hood Forward, Short hood Forward, and High Hoods. Great model, I see nothing wrong with it. By far my favorite DLC this year. This is worth 20 dollars unlike the other DLC that comes with one engine.
