The model itself is very good. I'm not sure if what the other reviews say is true (that Dovetail copied some other model from a third-party dev), but if it is, I can't do much about it. Acceleration and braking are satisfying from my point of view. The AWS sound isn't played immediately after you get the notification, which, unless you're paying attention, is annoying, as by the time the sound plays you'll have the emergency brake triggering and you'll have to restart the scenario. The scenarios are fine. Nothing too special, just the usual. They can all be completed without too much effort and all the achievements linked to this add-on work.

Another good attempt. Maybe NSE or BR Blue/grey skin in marketplace? Good sounds more or less accurate to real thing. Love the passenger view however notice saloon lights only work within third carrige.

Just purchased this DLC and I am vary pleased with it. It seems to play smoothly and looks really good. Some people are complaining about the train making the wrong noises. I'm not a trainspotter so I wouldn't really know what exact noise they make, but it doesn't lessen my enjoyment of this game at all. People also complain of reused sounds and skins, again it doesn't really bother me. I think the model is vary good and though I don't think I have ever travelled on this type of train before it's still an enjoyable experience for me to play on here. Recommended.

Class 455/8 Pros: +Very detailed exterior, nice textures +Great cab, with all the expected features and great textures +Passenger view, nicely done with view not too restricted +Sounds seem good, lovely horn and door close sounds. I don't know how the train sounds should sound, but they seem OK. Anyway, there is an AP soundpack for this if you so desire, +Day and Night headlights, instrament lights, cab light and even hazard lights +Changeable destination blind using CTRL+SHIFT+5 (shame they don't tell you this in the manual!) +Throttle seems to be modelled on older EMUs, in that step 1 accelerates to 4 or 5 mph, then step to up to around 20mph, and then 3 and 4 beyond. This makes it hard to control speed, as above 20mph you can only use steps 3 and 4, but I assume is realistic, and makes it more challenging to drive. Cons: -Brakes keep applying and releasing when going up hill, a bit odd and you keep hearing the brake release sounds. -Only 3 scenarios, which only seem to really have 456s and 375s as AI, not 455s, which is odd. Overall: Excellent addon, recommended in a sale especially. Adds another great loco to the South London Network, and can also be used on London to Brighton in quick drive. Brilliant quality, with suprisingly few problems.

Pros: -Good to have a 455/8 model...finally! -Destination board can be changed on the fly using Ctrl+Shift+5/6 Cons: -Dodgy acceleration. Notch one gets you to just under 5mph and then it stops accelerating. You have to go up the notches way too soon in my opinion. The thomson 455 you can leave in notch one for a while longer. It just accelerates like a rocket - No guard/guard bell. Southern do run 455/8s with guards DTG! Overall I would say buy if it goes on sale if you really want it but otherwise don't bother.

Well, it is basically the same good old 455 as on the Portsmouth line except for some differences in lights and other small details. My sincere bad wishes for the person who made these constantly squeaking wiper noises, it's a medieval torture. Verdict: Good train for dry weather only.

Living in South London the 455/8 has been a frequent sight for me and it is nice to see it recreated so well in Train Simulator. I think the model of the train is one of the high points with lovely interior and exterior models and it is also a nice bonus to actually have the southern logo on the train. The sounds are pretty average they arent great but arent too bad either and it will be nice to hopefully carry over the AP sound-pack. Playing through scenarios i have come across what may be a bug in the fact that the brake release sound is constantly playing. The only downside to the 455/8 is the weak selection of scenarios. There are only 3 scenarios which are completely fine and playable i am just greedy and would like to see some more although im sure the workshop will bring me some great scenarios. So overall for anyone interested in running commuter services i see the 455/8 as a must have and it is also a testament to the rising level of add-ons being produced by dovetail which has been nice to see over the years, its a long way from the original 166!!! Note: You can couple the 455/8 to a 456 :) good news

I can't really see the flaws with this as I have the AP Soundpack installed. The only issues I see are a annoying big where the DRA and Door lights in the cab turn white and change back to Red when the doors close or I shut the DRA off. 14/17

One of the better train add-ons that DTG have made. I actually requested this train and I'm glad to see it having such a better quality than most others. It's also a good success of a DLC!
Advantages:
All headlights are selectable A good-looking exterior and interior modeled well A nice HD cab thanks to Jordi Blumberg Destination boards are selectable in-game Correct physics, for once, which is great to have on this unit. AWS Delay It also has a few cool features like the brakes not releasing until after you move the power handle and hazard lights.
Disadvantages:
Door interlock lights always remain on in-cab Doors close too quickly Has a bit of a performance drop --AND--
The sounds are the same 455 sound from 5 years ago!
If you have read the features list and don't know too much about these trains, they don't have engines. This is a very good train for the simulator and is great on London to Brighton, South London Network and AI on the Chatham Mainline at London Victoria and Beckenham Junction.
