Reclaim and relive the glory days of the Fatherland! Step into your ugly, green-house of a cockpit and enjoy all of the state-of-the-art technology the Lufftwaffe had to offer. Step back in time and experience the most authentic simulation of a BF-109 available. With only a handful of these left in flying condition in the world this is a rare opportunity to learn to fly what, in my opinion, was the most technologically advanced WW2 fighter to see combat. It is the closest us mortals will ever come to experiencing what those young, German men felt taking-off against the rest of the West, but thank goodness we can experience it in a time of peace. These aircraft were specifically designed to be easy to fly for low-time pilots and these design choices shine through as you learn to operate and implement this phenomenal machine of war. Just make sure you bring your stick-and-rudder skills!

Don't get me wrong, the flight model is decent and the graphical design is top notch, but DCS it's self makes this not worth it. Multiplayer isn't easy at all to get into, it's extremely hard and DCS moreso focuses on single player. Only issue with that? The AI. The AI in this are just something else entirely...they make CoD lobbies look cheater free and make World of Warplanes look realistic! All I have to say is, DO NOT BUY, EVEN ON SALE. LOOK INTO IL2 GREAT BATTLES INSTEAD.

yeah, its cool that its the most advanced 109 and to me that feels kinda OP but I for one wish they did a more rugged variant. 1 thing that bothers me about this though is that cockpit damage doesnt seem to be modeled. I sat (on the ground in my plane) for 10 minutes letting a p51 strafe me and it seemed every bullet landed around my cockpit because there was not a scratch on the glass or pilot. It is modeled in other modules though. other than that it sounds great and feels great to fly this thing its also a very beautiful plane

Fantastic plane, great flight model. Perfect for your first aircraft if wanting to fly multiplayer. Will be tough to get used to at first, but once you learn her methods, you'll be tearing up the skies. This is my favourite DCS module! Hopefully they fix the bomb bugs concerning craters and delay fusing.

tl;dr: Buy this if you are interested in an excellent warbird specialized for aerial combat with a unique feeling that distinguishes it from pure rate-fighter like the spitfire or energy-fighters like the Fw-190 D. Capabilities: The Bf-109 can both turn very well and keep a high speed, which makes it very versatile in air-combat. Actually I had my best kill ratio and the most fun in the Bf 109 compared to the other warbirds. Its only limitations are its vulnerability against enemy fire and its small cannon capacity, which forces you to use the trigger very sparingly. On the other hand the cannons are so powerful, that it only requires one or two hits to kill other fighters. However, for ground attack it is not very suitable because of its limited loadout capacities and the fact that it is very hard to pull up once you are in a dive. Difficulty: It takes some time to get used to the Bf-109, but once you get a hang on it, you will have a really good time shooting enemies down in flames. The only thing that bothers me a bit are the limited trimming capabilities, but I guess this is just a minor comfort issue. Quality: The quality is as good as you would expect from other high fidelity warbirds in DCS (which is better than the quality in IL-2 imho). Only the cockpit textures are somewhat mediocre. Graphics\Sound: From the outside it looks very dangerous and cool. From the inside it rather looks like a flying electric shaver and it actually sounds like one. However, it has an interesting overall feeling and you can even pop out some nice looking flares from your cockpit.

EDIT: 2021.2.6 IMPORTANT NOTICE! DCS's mission generator doesn't work with WW2 era airplanes, it puts F-18 and modern stuff agaisn't you! You can always go to mission manager and replace those planes and air defences but at same time you see the mission and that sucks. Luckily community has made easy to use advanced mission generator: "briefing-room-for-dcs" (google it). With that you can set mission era to 1940, 1950, etc. and there is very different mission types, like rescue missions, convoy destruction, search & destroy, etc. You get new communication channel for mission, kneeboard will show you the map and waypoints, etc. That program is must have for WW2 planes and UH-1H or other helicopters. - - - - - - - - - I played FS2020 happily for a month, but then it got boring. In that game all the modern airplanes are so good and easy to fly that I didn't have any adrenaline bursts after playing a month. But with Bf-109 in DCS I found that enjoyment again! Motor of this 80 years old plane is so powerful that taking off needs concentration and knowing how it starts acting differently in certain speeds. All relevant info for flying this plane is told in training missions, but gotta say some of them are unfinished. Example in "cold start" training mission, tutorial doesn't tell all the relevant info for getting motor on!? I found those out in youtube videos. I have played this about a week and I'm having a blast just by playing basic stuff (take off, landing, etc.) and "acrobatic flight missions". Just yesterday I tried first time to actually fight on other planes and oh boy this game/simulator got better and I stepped in the totally new world! In youtube nickname "Growling Sidewinder" does great air-to-air fight videos for those who are new. This also works great on VR.

After sitting here with my flying leather helmet and goggles contemplating the safety of the UK and Europe. I choose the other side and purchased the Bf 109K-4. With my flying skills Europe and the beautiful UK are sightly safer with me at the controls. I found my Saitek X52 in the box “donate to the Smithsonian Institution”. No rudder peddles for me retired budget will only go so far. I first talked to my crew chief, he assures me my aircraft is in top shape and to disregard any patched holes. I must say I chose the great aircraft. If you are looking for WWII action go no further than the Kurfurst. Although I am still locked in the traffic pattern until I can takeoff and land on the same flight, it’s a great design. I am looking forward to the day I can take on other aircraft and not just a very nervous runway. The old X52 still will not let me shoot any guns but maybe it is safer that way for now. One day I will learn to make joystick buttons work. For now just cursing at the enemy who I have not meet yet will have to do. Soooooo watch your 6 and if you see me behind you..relax. Really whats my chances of hitting you? :)

Great aircraft, great price for the levfel of detail you get. It's a pain to get used to, hard to taxi, hard to take off, seems impossible to land with gear. Other than that, I'd highly recommend it. Not ideal for a first aircraft in DCS!

I bought the BF-109 because it is one of the most iconic aircraft of WW2. The detail of this model/module is very good with realistic wear and tear (scratches. marks etc.) in various place as one would see in a front line war plane. Some things I learned with this aircraft. I fly the P-47, P-51 and Spitfire. All of these aircraft have their own eccentricities one has to get used to. That being said, assuming the BF-109 is precisely modeled after the original, this plane is a nightmare to take off and land. I found it to be the most unstable aircraft in landing and take off I have ever experienced in a simulation. Very unforgiving of mistakes. I began to think that instead of meeting the BF-109's in the air, just let the BF-109's try to take off or land. The attrition rate from BF-109 take off and landing crashes alone would have assured our victory. Inspection of the cockpit showed it to be modeled very well. The cockpit also gave me a revelation about this plane. The BF-109 is not like the P-47, Mustang or Spitfire. Reach airspeed on the runway, they just lift up. Don't have to fight them. They want to fly. The BF-109 is different. Take Off: BF-109 Ease throttle forward, pull stick back and to the right. Hold your favorite charm tightly. The only steering under 100KPH is the brakes on the left and right wheel. Trying to control in this manner is very difficult at best. The plane wants to go off the runway like it's chasing a rabbit or something. Try to correct. Fight the stick and steering some more. Realize the charm is for emotional comfort only. This plane goes kicking, lurching and complaining down the runway...it's like it doesn't want to fly. The rudder steering kicks in at about 100KPH. Finally it lurches upward..bring the stick down fast. I personally found, first trim the nose all the way down. This prevents some lurching upward. I also unlock the tail wheel. Once you get to 100KPH, you can use rudder control for steering. Landing.. Very narrow wheel base. Like riding a unicycle with a motor on it. One mistake and it's cartwheel time. The problem IMHO is: Rudder steering stops under 100KPH. Under 100KPH, there is no steering other than the brakes for the left and right wheels. Trying to steer and control with just buttons is difficult in the least. One mistake and it cartwheels or spins around. The braking system using just buttons on the HOTAS is very sensitive and can result in a cartwheel or spinning on the runway. There is no way to adjust sensitivity with button braking. I haven't tried with rudder pedals and tow brakes. These are usually axis mapped and be be adjusted in the control settings. (Curve, inverted..etc.) The BF-109 has no aileron trim. I understand that the real 109's did not have aileron trim either and had to be adjusted on the ground. The adjustment is in the 'Special' category. You have to experiment with the adjustment until the aileron is adjusted correctly and leave it there. The Good: Once the BF-109 is in the air and trimmed correctly, it's fast, maneuverable and surprisingly, easy to handle....in the air. The cannon in the nose and twin machine guns gives respectable firepower. With it's light air frame the engine gives it a lot of performance...in the air. Conclusion: For experience pilots only. Once in the air, good speed, maneuverability and armament. Actually very easy to fly. Can take a lot of practice in takeoff and landing, especially landing. Landings without a pedal/rudder/brake system makes this plane set in the hangar until a way landing and steering control can be solved. If your a new pilot to tail draggers: Since there is no tail dragger WW2 trainers in DCS, my first suggestion is the Christen Eagle II. It's not a warbird, but gives the basics of flying a tail dragger. Or, the P-47; very forgiving airplane as a tail dragger and does everything without complaint. Then Mustang..Then Spitfire. I'm suggesting this so to avoid any frustration with new pilots. Hope this helps.
