Total waste of money... The goldsource version of the game is cheaper, less glitchy and overall better. Oh and if you want to buy the game because of GMod. Don't. Seriously don't as you get everything in HLDM:S which can be found in a bundle an gives the same content as this.

This game is actually quite fun; of course this version of Half-Life has some bugs.

This shit is so ass, I love it. That being said, DON'T buy this one if it's your first foray into the Half-Life Series. I'm just one of the freaks that finds the outdated jank endearing

Failed to meet my unreasonably high expectations. Surely for it's time it might be great but if you're not used to janky controls and the worst ladders you'll ever see, you may not have a great time. It's not a bad game but definitely not great either. Game not providing you any hints is a great system imo, but only if the world is worth exploring, it's not the case here. The story is interesting but levels are, more often than not, not worth exploring. Also I've sad it before, I hate the f**king ladder in this game, almost as much as I hate the f**king horse in shadow of the colossus. Btw, I did not play the original, I'm not qualified enough to make comments on the changes from HL1 to HL1:Source.

In 2004 Valve decided to port Half-Life to their Source engine in an attempt to update the game. It added ragdoll physics and better graphics but didn’t add much. Initially the improvements like lighting were welcomed until a later update led to the game becoming an extremely buggy mess with NPCs randomly screaming or seeing scientists levitating above their chairs. Eventually you go along a conveyer belt and because the graphics completely break at that point I suddenly looked like I was going through the stargate at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. There's other numerous bugs including AI behaviour, a disorientating skybox and slippery movement. There's a reason this version of Half-Life has been delisted. Textures are too shiny as well with weapons looking very awkward. Certainly not the best version of Half-Life to be playing.

Now, I understand why the source remaster of Half-Life is disliked, but I need to clarify: It is not unplayable. It's not like WWE 2K20 where it was released in a completely unacceptable state. The game does look visually better than the original too, such as the water looking great, and the models have ragdoll physics. The only visual bugs that I've seen in Half-Life Source are just visual bugs. Like scientist walking paths messing up at the beginning of the game, there was even a scientist at the beginning that was floating above the chair. However, the only bugs that might be detrimental are two things: 1) Sometimes Barnacle tongues don't visually stretch all the way down, but are still actually there, so you could get grabbed by invisible tongues if you don't know the Barnacle is there. 2) There's a point in the chapter "Residue Processing" where the whole environment just gets all messed up, and it can be hard to see, though I've been told you can fix that by disabling something in video settings. I guess those alone might make the original more worth playing than the Source version, but the Source version is perfectly fine in my opinion. But if you've never played Half-Life, you should play the original first.

it's... not... as bad as it may seem, believe it or not. it still kind of... sucks. but it's not horrible. it's atleast better than hunt down the freeman.

This is a really good game and I highly recommend it. It's like the original Half-Life but on the Source Engine! It uses the Source Engine effectively and less buggy than the original Half-Life. It's worth your money and its unfortunate this amazing remaster has been unlisted. :broken heart emoji:

A remake so bad that in response the Half-Life community made their own remake called Black Mesa. The only reason this game exists is because it's a literal tech-demo for the Source engine showcasing it's capabilities to replicate and enhance the older engine, it wasn't meant to replace the original HL1 in any way, shape or form, but over the years it has gained the reputation of being a really, REALLY bad remake. Why is it so bad? Glitches galore, a lot of things broke in the transition from GoldSrc to Source, the enemies just fall over with crappy ragdoll physics that look really awkward with the low-poly models of HL1 and the water looks a lot worse than straight up using a warping texture simulating water from the original. Okay sure, it's not that bad, it's not unplayable or anything, but there's litrerally many other better ways to play HL1 that renders this specific release completely obsolete, like the aformentioned Black Mesa, the OG '98 version which still remains the best and Sven Co-op with bigger levels and harder difficulties. The only reason you might want to buy this piece of "software", is because it's compatible with Gmod and probably just for completion sake if you want to own every game from Valve (I bought a boxed copy of HL2 decades ago and this came bundled for free). In short; buy this for Gmod and play any other version, avoid otherwise.
