Train Simulator: CSX SD80MAC Loco Add-On DLC

Packing 5,000 horsepower and a 20-cylinder engine, the SD80MAC was a regular coal hauler across Pennsylvania, and is now here in CSX livery for Train Simulator.Thirty units were built by EMD for Conrail between 1995 and 1996 and were the first diesel locomotives to use a 20-cylinder engine since EMD’s SD45 and SD45-2 models.

It's a great loco, but the horn takes too long to release, good thing there's a mod to fixes that.

There is a significant, and I mean SIGNIFICANT, problem with WHEEL SLIP. You may have the throttle at Notch 2, yet you will get absolutely punished points-wise on the career mode. Also two head-end locomotives should not be pulling an 80-car, fully-loaded coal train on mountain grades, or Western Kansas for that matter. DTG needs to get a fix out for this locomotive NOW!! Significant Issues: -Terrible Horn -Wheel Slip under minimal power -Unrealistic scenarios

It's a ok locomotive. You can't play with the horn so to speak, brakes are a little touchy also. But overall nice sounds. And only got it for $10, so it wasn't a total loss.

I really like this locomotive, very smart indeed but it freeze Railworks in 64 bit, in 32 bit it runs well, the problem I do find is the CSX hoppers, pulled away with a 100 of them and arrived at my end destination with 39, every now and then a few wagons uncouple by itself , not sure why. The locomotive is smart, maybe not advanced but the looks are awesome.

Get this only if you want to use it in quick drive or scenario packs and even then at a discount. The scenarios for the Coal District route are terrible, the second one gives you an error message right off the bat (which can be bypassed with the F2), and once you are finally up to speed after holding the sander down for twenty minutes and keeping the throttle at notch 2, you seemingly randomly get an "operational error" which deducts 500 points and you can kiss a good score goodbye. Not that the loco is stellar either, the interior is rather blurry, the horn loop is way too long and as a "cherry on the cake" the bloody bell doesn't work.

Horn is bad. Brakes are horrible. Traction is nearly nonexistent. Get wonderful AC6000 instead and be happy.

Useful as decoration only. Freezes the game if you try to use it in 64-bit, brakes don't apply until about 42% and go into emergency at 45%, horn loop is too long, no flashing ditch lights, terrible handling. Even Fan Railer's physics and sound mods couldn't save this one for me because of the brake problem alone.

Great Locomotive would definitely recommend this Unit.Being a Retired Conrail Conductor, brakeman, hump master i'll say every inch of this unit is pin point accurate. A lot of people think or believe the SD80Mac was a power house unit do to it 5,000 hps when in fact it was more like a Luxury Streamliner unit. The only problem this unit really has besides the long horn blow is really the HTCR-2 Radial Self Steering trucks don't work the way they work in real life which makes its pulling power weaker than other units. These self steering trucks are supposed to make turns smoother and add less bouncing around when in motion plus add direct power to the rails from the traction motors giving it more stronger traction feed back along with its 45 inch wheels. The first mission in the rain is a great almost true to real life on how 2 SD80Macs would feel pulling 80 Loaded Coal Hoppers up and incline from a dead start giving players the feel of how it feels to pull tons of coal from a stopped start. My only little opinion on this unit would be about its cab which would be a lot quieter when running this unit giving it has the first whisper cabs which were like sound proof cabs. Other than that i give this Locomotive Unit 9 out of 10 Trust a Real Retired Railroader opinion review Not by a hear say game fan player

To start I do love this locomotive! It has bright headlights, accurate design, Nicely made cab interior and CSX coal cars. All CSX SD80MACs are Ex-Conrail so the engine's physical body shape is accurate. The ditch lights do not flash(IDK if they do in real life though) and the engine is equipped with a Conrail RS3L horn(IDK how real they made the horn) but it has a too long of a loop making it hard to do the long long short long sequnce. Also the brake physics are totally messed up like on the SD40-2 LHF. I still say go get it since it is a good looking train despite the glitchiness.
