A really awesome sequel to an amazing game. I remember HM2 getting a lot of imo undeserved hate when it came out, but I think this game delivers. Maybe the only bummer to me is the presence of the war flashback levels, but that doesn't stop this game from being a must play. 9/10

Haven't played the original? Do that first. Enjoyed the original? Get this game on sale. Alright. Gameplay wise, I think this game was notably more [strike]annoying[/strike] difficult and a bit more jank than the first; to each point, enemy sight lines and numbers are usually brutal, and I remember takedowns feeling a little odd sometimes. I also don't think the combo system changes -- allowing for more downtime at the expense of knockdowns not extending the timer -- are that fun, but I think thematically the idea that "killing is the only thing that matters" is appropriate, and the desperation and trigger-happiness that you develop as you go for high scores also works. At least I thought the use of different characters was fun.
I will give credit to the post-game content and hard mode, if only for the fact that mirroring the layout of every stage is a very creative way of adding difficulty; it makes you appreciate how much of each stage you've had to hard-code into you muscle memory.
If I hadn't shown my hand already, it's the story and theming of this game that sells the experience for me. This isn't a game about being a silent badass that kills without paying attention to (or knowing about) what's going on. This is a game where you play as a cast of self-centered nutjobs that each face the consequences of putting their own lives above others and participating in systems that serve to put others down. That is what this game is to me. I think this idea gets across well, and the ending feels deserved. Of course, I appreciate the restraint shown on the first game's story, but this one just resonated with me more. An interesting experience. It was fun to crank out some long nights while in discord calls. I felt satisfied when I 100%ed everything.

great game and a worthy sequel, its really sad that we wont get hotline miami 3 but this is a game that had me pumping my fists and laughing with joy throughout my time with it and sometime left me with frustrating because of the game difficulty.

I don't think I like hurting other people now :( I think they made an excellent job continuing the series. They kept what we liked in the first game and put more on it. More and longer chapters, more dialogues, more lore, more challenges... I think story is outstanding, I really enjoyed following it all. No need for spoilers really, just go there and experience it. Gameplay wise it is same, but level designs made the gameplay a lot better in my case. They get progressively harder and force you to use some skills or discover them. So even if you are decent player, you learn some cool stuff eventually and feel cool to be able to do them despsite not playing it flawlessly. Of course it is also possible to master everything and do never ending combos. They made an iconic gameplay and that's what you'll get. Combined with the theme you all probably know better than me that this game is one of the classics. I actually had so much fun playing this game after one. Got a little better -despite still being shit at it- and enjoyed it more. One of the rare games that got me hyperfocused about it as I played. It was a fun experience and definitely made me feel something. Worth trying to get into.
Same as the previous game main focus is put into action. As much simplified as it is gameplay is fast, relentless and very brutal also involves a lot of dying (not hair). Be quick or try again type of game. Story not as good as the previous one still might engage you until the end. Soundtrack is punchy and adds to chaotic mayhem. Gameplay gets very messy especially later in the game. Obviously not for everyone.
Hotline Miami 2 is like the first game chugged a liter of energy drink and went on a rampage. More blood? Guns? Swearing? Hell yeah. The gameplay is tighter, faster, and crazier, and the story finally hits its stride — it's like a crime series where it's funny, dramatic, and everyone betrays everyone. If the first game was an experiment, the second is a full-blown blockbuster with bullets, blood, and dark humor. This game is fire, just like everything that goes down in Miami! 🔥
