If you like shunting duties this is the route for you. Lots of shunting around in the Doncaster Works area. The Class 03 loco is great (read manual if needed) and provides some accurate experience of shunting all the dead rolling stock that needs to be moved. For such a small Route in distance it is huge in work and fun.

Found a posible bug in "Loco in Motion"..... Can couple train to front of locomotive at "Main Road 17", transport it to "Production Shop 3" but, as soon as the train enters the shed, additional (non-existing) locomotives are added to the train (which disappear when driving a bit further), and then it is impossible to decouple E43083254014 from the Class 37... The carriage and the 47283 CAN be decoupled, but the Intercity Engine can't. Some other day I'll try to couple the train to the BACK of the Class 37, and see what happens, but not today!

Was enjoying it, I collected and deposited the first trio or Deltic's and upon arriving at the 2nd trio the shunter just phased right through them so needs fixing. EDIT: Did manage to finish the mission by trying again and approaching the trains from the other direction not that it should matter. Why do a shunting mission if you have to do it a set way. Also upon finishing got a timeliness penalty of 9700 odd points meaning I scored a grand total of 0 despite it not taking too long. Ridiculous and takes the mick a bit.

I bought it on sale, but even then, it's one of the few oldies that is honestly still worth the asking price. It is old, yes, but it is also pretty well done. No, you are not getting a big route. This is not even a branchline. This is just the Doncaster locomotive works and facilites, nothing else. While that may seem pitiful, you get a lot of stock and an pretty decently detailed area that has really managed to stand the test of time. You'll find yourself doing all sorts of shunting, even in free roams. I like it.

Even though I haven't driven on this route in a while, I still think it's quite nice. I like the idea of having a workshop complex in TS. It's a part of railways that - in my opinion - doesn't get that much attention. The only other route that I remember has any sort of workshop is Horseshoe Curve, with the workshops in Altoona. I think they're called 'Juniata Shops' but please correct me if I'm wrong. Going back to Doncaster Works, I think this is a good route for shunting. The Class 03 is a nice engine to drive, although I think the sounds could be improved - as they are a bit outdated. This route is a good place to get to grips with the gear system on diesel-mechanical engines. The complex track layout means you can be kept very busy moving rolling stock around, and the two traversers make for an interesting sight. From memory, traversers aren't all that common in TS. I like the dead locomotives you get with this pack, especially the Class 07 as a glorified 0-4-0. I think the way RSC/DTG did the dead 37's, 47's and Deltics was pretty interesting. It's strange seeing a 47 with the engine exposed, and another 47 with one cab all mangled. I also like the presence of Mk1 carriage shells, just because it adds a little bit more realism, and gives you something else to shunt around the yard. As sad a sight as it is, the scrap line is probably one of my favourite parts of the route. I'm not too sure why, especially since most people don't like seeing pictures of engines in the scrapyard. Even so, I think it's weird seeing several locomotive bodies stacked on top of each other. This route really is starting to show its age, in terms of the detailing. Outside of the workshop complex, it seems to rely heavily on the old Kuju assets. I will agree that these are now very outdated, but I can accept the use of Kuju assets. This is because they mean the route runs relatively smoothly on most computers, including mine. The fact that this is a BR Blue-themed route is a bit of a let-down, but I try not to prevent that from ruining the charm. Yes, I think this route has charm. Having an alternate version - set in steam days - would be pretty cool, as we could recreate Flying Scotsman and Mallard (or any other famous LNER engines) leaving the workshops for the first time. Going back to when I mentioned the dead locomotives for you to tow around, I was intrigued to see a Class 02 here. Unfortunately this is the only version of the Class 02 I have, as I was too late to get the original pack before it was discontinued. You do only get one driveable locomotive - the Class 03. I think at least one more shunter - like the Class 08 - should have been included. Regardless, the 03 is still better than nothing. Another downside to this route is the fact that all you get - track wise - is Doncaster station and the workshops. It's a very linear route, meaning there is no other track to go and explore. I guess the trick is to not drive on this route too often, otherwise you'll probably get bored of it. So to summarise, I think Doncaster Works is a nice route to practice driving diesel-mechanical engines on. It's also a good route for shunting, that is somewhat let down by the lack of included track. I would definetely recommend it for people that like the BR Blue era. My review has now concluded.

there are 2 missions for career and some on standard. Career is broken, you can't make it on time, and the second one will not even finish. As for the standard ones, it is pretty cool. This DLC is all about shunting. You will not make journeys. So you can expect some puzzles.

Class 03 model looks great and the sounds are good, Career scenarious are shockingly bad, using fuel will lose you points and after 40 minutes you are told scenario was being timed so again you lose points, mainline next to yard seems to have been shutdown has i noticed no AI mainline traffic,The yard looks very good and ive had no issues with crashing or problems with Traverser/Sliding Bridge ive had this DLC for over a year now.8/10 would be my score

I will say I like this add on. Offers lots of time killing just shunting cars around the yard. Howerever the traverser or sliding rail bridge in front of the sheds has quit working as of the 2015 update.

In my opinion, this is a good route just for shunting. It is a vast and intricate arangement of track; plus I also like the bodies of the "dead" engines. This is a good small route just for beginners.

I bought this DLC in the latest sale for £2.99 because it has some items that are needed for other route scenarios that I have. However, I am quite taken with it. I like shunting exercises anyway, which is all this is. So if you don't, then don't buy this DLC. Some of the Standard scenarios need you to think outside of the box and you do not always receive a tick for the instruction, although you think that you have done everything correctly. So far as the traverser is concerned, try using the "change points" boxes with the task list open, instead of the G and Shift G keys. They do work. Wait for the sales and it's worth the money.
