This is a weird game to review as it feels like it has more bad things than good but somehow the good things are so good that the overall experience is not ruined much by the bad things. In my book The Moebius Machine is a solid metroidvania. A nutshell version of said bad things: * Lack of variety: everything is the same-ish, areas, enemies, pick-ups, etc * Close to non-existent story. I think the devs agreed that they weren't sci-fi writers and they didn't even try to add lore * Shooting with the same gun against the same sort of enemies gets boring after a while * Bosses are meh * Some areas are incredibly annoying The good things: * Map design is AAA. Perfect balance of progress and backtracking to get to all the hidden corners * Fun and some unusual movement skills that connect very well with finding new connections between the different areas * Exploration: The above two points mean that getting closer to the end of the game it feels really rewarding when you find previously hidden paths and pick-ups. To be frank, Exploration is the saving grace of the game, it almost feels like shooting at monsters is just something you have to do otherwise you die. Grab it on a discount for some couch shooting. Perfect on the Deck. I would love to see what better and more complex game the team are capable of.

Okay this game was way better than i expected with great exploration, unique power-ups (like the ladder dash!) and some really solid boss fights. Plenty of opportunities to sequence break too. Really enjoyed this, definitely recommend it
Mobius Machine – A Slow Build That Builds Into Something Special
At first glance, Mobius Machine may seem like a slow burn. You start with the basics, and traversal feels a bit restrictive. The world appears vast yet repetitive, as if you’re trapped in a map that loops through the same environments. But as you push forward and expand your skillset, the game transforms into an ever-shifting sci-fi adventure, packed with platforming madness and a growing sense of discovery.
A Visual Delight With Intuitive Gameplay Mechanics and a Sprawling Map
Visually, Mobius Machine is a pure delight. The attention to detail is stunning—every enemy feels tangible, as if you could reach out and touch the squishiness of a floating octopus or the rigid spikes of a massive crab. The environments, while initially familiar, become more dynamic and complex, drawing you deeper into its world. What really elevates the experience is the fluidity of the mechanics. Every skill upgrade enhances the core gameplay in meaningful ways, making movement feel progressively more rewarding. Unlocking the glide ability, for example, opens up areas you may have completely overlooked, adding new layers to exploration. The thrill of thrusting across platforms at high speed fuels an almost compulsive desire to keep going, whether to uncover hidden enemies, tackle old foes with newfound strength, or simply see what lies ahead.
👾 Final Thoughts:
Beyond its mechanics, Mobius Machine is a love letter to the Metroidvania genre and the sights and sounds of classic ‘80s sci-fi. It’s clear that the developers poured an immense amount of heart into this game, and that passion shines through in every moment. If you’re a fan of immersive, skill-based exploration with a touch of retro-futuristic charm, this is an experience well worth diving into. I truly hope it finds the success it deserves.
